More GDC goodness
« on: January 22, 2012, 01:06:07 pm »
As I'm sure most of you are aware of, GDC is just around the corner and there is always somebody from CCP doing a presentation there or just getting drunk. You guys probably remember when they announced Dust 514 instead of World of Darkness some years ago or the nVidia demo with those vampire chicks, so that's why anybody remotely interested in the WoD MMO should always keep an eye on what's going on at this convention.

Now, something not many people know is that there is a GDC Vault where subscribing members can find all the sessions form past years neatly recorded. Unfortunately you need to pay if you want to see the videos, BUT the guys at GDC are gracious enough to offer some things like PDFs or Powerpoint presentations free of charge. Well... the other day I was glancing over some of them when I found this:

Look at all the cute, little gargoyles! Not a big fan of the van, though. It doesn't have textures, I know, but it's better than nothing and, I'm not sure, but I think I remember a similar architecture from somewhere else. This year CCP's Kaitlyn Burnell will be giving a presentation on the rules of game design and when to break them, which I think should involve WoD somehow. Anyway, enjoy the new pic, guys!

Nice Find, the title of the file screen reads : "Jessica (2009/04/22) ([CCP] WoD WOD DEV-client 3.2###something###  / Working with Worldspace - Test."

So as you can see it is not something  of actual development or even the same team since its dated 2009

Still the browser tree shows that they have a multitude of test assets.

The Lecture by Kaitlyn Burnell sounds interesting, too bad GDCvault do not say how much a subscription costs(which in most cases means it costs a hefty sum) and I'm not living near the place where event takes place.
That said I doubt there will be actual WoD content showcased since she talks about examples from other existing game, though still may give some idea of the direction they are taking..

I completely forgot to tell you guys exactly where this pic comes from! I linked to some of the CCP related PDFs in the original post, including the one where I found the image: Adressing Human Scalability Through Multi-User Editing Using Revision Database, by John Ritterhouse. Page 6.

Very interesting.  Really looking forward to seeing what they care to show (if anything) this year.
