...about the MMO cancellation: http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/jun/05/world-of-darkness-the-inside-story-mmo-ccp-white-wolf

I can't help to being reminded of the reasons why Bloodlines was released rather unfinished and Troika had to close: Bad management by Gabe Newell, who only was interested in Steam at the time, forced the HL2 people to reboot the game again and again and Troika had to follow that with Bloodlines too until they decided to keep an outdated Source engine. Of course it was worse with the WoD MMO with CCP using WoD people for EVE expansions, which many of us probably suspected.

The CEO had members of the fiction writing team put the apology together - he was either so out of touch, so arrogant, that he couldn’t find the words himself

Wow.

"One manager couldn't answer questions on gameplay or focus. I remember him standing over the shoulder of a programmer putting his finger to his lips and saying 'No - make it more... psssshhhh’"

I'd say that's exactly how it turned out.

indeed interesting article. I just wonder why after all , having some work already done no one consider to turn
Wod MMo into single player sandbox game or simply put Bloodlines 2.
Shame and big disappointment that all work and time has been somehow wasted.

Looks like whole game industry have some tough times.

Because, while CCP hire the pinnacle of the industry that are professionals trained to deliver by the deadline no matter what, the management do not really have the same professional attitude it seems, so they prefer to release what they consider perfection or none at all.

Also it sounds like there is a huge gap in communication between the creative people(if they hire creative people) and the implementing teams.

well mr Radical that's not the answer, I have read the article as well. You have misunderstood my question or my thought. I do clearly  (well according to article) understood what the issue was, and bad management thing as well as not one clear direction where they were heading to.
And I'm far away to argue which team and people have better or less professional approach for the project.

My wandering were about this project after whole fiasco. What next they can do, thing.
So i think that only hope for their work would be to transform now whole work in to Single Player project.
Or make it kind of Open Source project and publish it for gamers, moders  and developers.

What we do not know is what financial condition of CCP was at that time.
Which could have been final nail to the coffin of WoD. Let's be realistic.
Not mention that CCP employes have lost work too.  So it could be that not only management have failed.
By the way - MMO are as far as i look at this kind of Games, high risky.

If they would publish what they have so far on open source rules that could be quite interesting.
For free or small amount of charge. Gamers and moding community could benefit and somehow compensate
disappointment.

Well it might not be revolution but still better something that nothing.

I doubt that there is enough content there to make this work as Single Player. Probably they had no story, no quests, no NPCs and no voice-overs yet. Also in all the media you only see one city area and we have something similar in Bloodlines already.

The problem with that is probably that they use the same engine for their captains quarters and Dust expansion so they can't just go Open Source.

What I meant is that its not about what they Can do next, they can do many things but they won't and they don't really care for this niche community beyond re-selling the license to Onyx Path.

They could've given the project to the community as open source but that goes against any capitalist bone in their body and as Wesp already mentioned they would be releasing proprietary material that they worked long and hard to develop , which would put it in the hands of the competition.

Not mention that CCP employes have lost work too.  So it could be that not only management have failed.

Not sure what you mean by that but the pipeline work in a way where typically there is a team of Concept Artists, Writers and Game Designers who work out the vision of how the game is going to be at a relatively low cost and then you have TDs,Artists and Programmers who come in and build the game according to that vision.
All the Careful planning happens ahead of time to ensure that the hard time-consuming work isn't wasted and beyond that any iterative process should only be polish or bugfixing..

For Artist/Programmer to build something to completion(past the prototype stage) and then mid-production someone comes in and tell them to go do it again from scratch shows a faulty inefficient process.

I said at the time that CCP waffling on about this game being influenced by DayZ etc  a decade after the project started was a sure sign that it was fooked

Here are two links showing that EVE may be slowly dying off. Maybe one day soon CCP will wish they didn't shut down the WoD MMO or they might need to sell the WW IP:

That would be great. I'd love to see them sell it instead of developing it. I no longer feel like the project is safe in their hands.
