Newbie questions
« on: April 04, 2019, 08:51:45 AM »
I bought this game on GoG years ago and never played it.  I generally just play Bloodlines.  I started it out of curiosity, and I was disapointed to see we start the game as Human, unlike Bloodlines.  How long does it take to become a vampire?  Which quest?  And which clan are available to play?

Thanks!!!

P.S.  Your link for the walththrough is 404.

It's story driven. For a while you'll play as an autodidact vampire hunter.

To put it diiferently, a linear game. There are some choices, but nothing like Bloodlines. I'm not even sure if it has any side quests.
I strongly recommend AoR mod/fix, it's almost unplayable without. This companion AI would drive anyone nuts.

Single player campaign that comes with the game is Brujah only. It's a solid but linear story like deicide said. You'd need to start a new game with Age of Redemption mod, but you can jump into Multiplayer>Lan and play the single player campaign as any clan you wish, including the added Lasombra. There are also other features in AoR which are cool, such as blood effects based on whether you're feeding from a drunk ect. There are also new items and more. As was previously said as well, the AI is much better, for your coterie and enemies. Enemies in AoR aren't just bullet sponges. In some cases, melee is the appropriate approach, and in other cases firearms are better. In vanilla, I can run through the whole campaign using only melee. AoR is far superior imho, makes you think through strategies more, though with difficulty settings that you can change while playing through it's config app.

In this AoR (which sounds great) was implemented a WASD control as an alternative (or replacement) for the point and click?

Unfortunately I think that's a limitation that can't be bypassed.

WASD controls would be bloody inconvinient with this type of camera and gameplay anyway.

The camera being linked to the mouse is the biggest inconvenience that is hard coded in the engine. This is what would prevent any first person mod, or WASD setup, if that keymapping were even possible. It's so bad that if you remote into a computer hosting the game, you can't control the mouse. It goes crazy and the camera follows. I demonstrated this type of scenario in the reshade portion of my tutorial.
