Bug in Vampire Redemption
« on: March 09, 2017, 12:34:16 PM »
Hallo everybody,

i play every year with Vampire The Masquerade Redemption, it's my favourite game ever, and i'v just installed it to play. But now i'v found 2 bugs that i never had before (the Pc and System are the same since 5 years, and i've already played without problems).

First: I can save the game only in the empty slots, it can't save over the already saved slot. I can bypass this problem canceling every time the old saved games but it's annoying.

Second: when i've been embraced by Ecaterina and i should go to the mission with Wilhelm, i can't go through the doors of the university, i can't click on it, and i can't go on with the game. Should i find a already saved game in Internet or there's the possibility to understand the problem?

It sounds to me you might have a "permissions problem" with your VMR folder. As this game was designed before modern versions of Windows, it is designed to write directly into the folder it is installed within. Modern versions of Windows do not allow this, but instead intercept the game's attempts to do so to a "virtualstore" folder within your user profile. So, for example, instead of saving under C:\Program Files\Vampire\, it saves within C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\VirtualStore and within there you'll find an identical "Program Files\Vampire" where all your saves are, including "SaveGames" and "Crypt".
(Note: if you are running 64 bit Windows, then it'll be "Program Files (x86)" since Vampire is 32 bit software).
At this point, you'll need to set the security permissions to allow read-write and delete on these files. To do this, right click on the "Vampire" folder and choose "security". Click "advanced" at the bottom of the new box. Then, click "add" and when 'choose a principal' appears, type "everyone" and press enter. Make sure all the permission boxes are ticked, and then tick at the bottom "replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object". Click "apply". This will ensure that any future saves are able to be edited and deleted at will, at least this is what works for me. Give it a try, and report back if you still have any issues
