Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines Remake
« on: June 14, 2014, 10:17:20 PM »
First of all I want to apologize that the subject maybe missleading is, and second for my bad English.

After a long time of playing skyrim modded and now playing again VtMB. I thought, if it maybe possible to remake the game, with a nice engine and char models like from the moder Krista, who made some really great sinister Female mods for skyrim.
I myself tried to reconstruct the tutoriel, where Jack explains everything with the CRYENGINE, but I'm still green behind the ears with game design and mods.

And I wonder if someone has interest in joining to reconstruct the game, and maybe making it bigger with new content and all that stuff. I'm a writer and have little experience in mods.

Or is this plan even impossible?

I just thought there two groups who a reconstruct Oblivion and Morrowind, so why not this game with a new engine?

Check out Project Vaulderie here, which is exaclty what you want, only using the Unity Engine!

Many features from Morrowind and Oblivion could be reused in the Creation Engine, in Skyrim (like sounds or textures), I think the teams that are developing the remakes had some copyright problems with Bethesda for that reason. Also, isn't Skyrim's engine developed from Oblivion's?
I don't have much experience with programming, but I think its alot harder with 2 entirely different engines like the old Source Engine and Unity. Its possible though, but will probably take a couple of years until the Vampire Bloodlines remake (Project Vaulderie) is finished.

That would be the same or worse if using the Skyrim engine...

I agree with you on that, but maybe MP will be finished faster!

Multiplayer would be great, but I'm more interested in the singleplayer campaign. I wonder how MP would look in Bloodlines with so many disciplines and abilities to balance. Also, if it will include all the clans.

Skyrim has the Creation Kit, it can also be used to easily mod the game and also access the files from the archives in previous elder scrolls games and there are alot of other tools that can help moders do what they want with the game.

They do already have some coded rules for how powers - at least damaging powers - affect supernaturals. Disciplines are for mortals; you want a shotgun to deal with vampires. I learned that the hard way my first playthrough as a Gangrel, and I was sooooo excited to shoot beetles at people.

Then I met the Kuei-Jinn in Foxy Boxes. Turned off THAT excitement straight enough.

What about thaumaturgy? Would some disciplines like that work in MP against other players or would it be useless? That is probably the only real disclipine the Tremere have in SP.

In the MP mode hidden in Bloodlines players can't hurt each others, so I don't know how Troika planned to do this...

Maybe it was some kind of coop?

I'd be willing to bet they were planning to let players complete the story in co-op mode. And this was before the big co-op craze took off, too, so I've gotta give them props for that. For a combat game, there are a lot of options, so they probably wanted to let two players complete the game, even if one went social/mental and the other went physical/combat. I strongly got the feeling in my early playthroughs of Bloodlines that the triform warghouls were meant to be fought by more than one person.

If it is coop, is it even close to a working state? I read that the game crashes in multiplayer. Could MP be somehow restored?

Probably. All the infos getting it to work are included in the Unofficial Patch! The biggest issues right now are that: 1) the player on the server can't join the game because as soon as he touches the floor the game crashes. Which means it's hard to even test without a whole group of people. 2) I heard that some levels crash and others don't but I never tried all of them. So if there was a MP group with some modding experience it should be possible to get at least some dedicated maps working, like e.g. a group of player vampires attacking the Leopold Society or player vampires defending LaCroix's tower against the Sabbat or cleaning the Sabbat lair. I'm not into MP myself, therefore I haven't done anything into that direction except for including the cfg and adding MP clans, but it should be possible!

That's great! Maybe some of the SP maps could be modified for coop. Thanks for the info!
