The movie Underworld
« on: September 07, 2014, 12:18:55 AM »
I made a music video to the movie. I really love it, but I also saw an article talking about an Underworld reboot, which I'm not excited about at all.

Anyone else a fan of the movie series?

Interesting.  I'm not a huge fan of reboots, but I'll keep an open mind and check it out before condemning it.  There are so many great possible stories out there, I hate that Hollywood reboots origin stories instead of moving on to the untold great stories still out there.

I mean... do we really need ANOTHER Batman or Superman movie?  How about a reboot of Daredevil without Ben Affleck, with the script originally made by Frank Miller from his Daredevil: The Man Without Fear limited series (originally made as a movie script).  It's so fucking good.  In fact, fuck a reboot, there's a TON of great Daredevil stories.  The Frank Miller's Daredevil Born Again  storyline was great where he gets torn down and fights his way back up.  Or the time when Bullseye came across Daredevil with amnesia and took his role.  At first he was trying to ruin Daredevil's rep by doing robberies, but then he starts to think he's actually Daredevil... albeit a demented version.  Then Daredevil sortof recovers some memories and goes looking for Bullseye.  Finds his apartment and his costume and he becomes Bullseye.  And then he starts to get confused about who *he* is.  By the time they have their big fight on the roof, even the audience (if it's done right like it was in the comic) is questioning who is who and who to route for.  Or there's D.G. Chichester and Scott McDaniel's Fall From Grace storyline which was similarly good.  Guardian Devil storyline was good but I dislike stories that are overly Christian these days.  I guess that's it off the top of my head.

TL;DR: Puppies are cute and soft.

Not entirely sure why a reboot is needed for this one, unless it is the obvious trope. If anything could use it, it wouldn't be the first two movies, but rather the fourth. Awakening wasn't bad, but it did something that perhaps would work in the WoD, but doesn't here. That, would be bringing humans into the mix, and breaking the whole masquerade thing apart. If that started in the first movie, it wouldn't be a problem. But it starts in the fourth.

Also, it puzzles me as to why people like the idea of VAMPIRES, who can be put down so easily by humans - namely when the Vampires in the series aren't portrayed as entirely evil. Especially ones like Selene, who is likely at Marcus' level, if not higher by Awakening.

As for the movies themselves, I do love them. Only have the first two on dvd, both being worth having. The commentary for the first movie is worth watching it again to listen. Especially the mention of a shot used for the trailer, which the director knew it was going to be in(the scene were Selene enters the mansion/sitting room, sans jacket).

I agree with you both. There will also be a reboot of The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned by Universal (Queen of the Damned movie by Warner Bros. in 2002 combined both books in one movie). I am looking forward to a reboot to those, only because QOTD movie didn't get very good reviews, even though I love the movie when not comparing to the novel.

Did you guys watch my video though?

I enjoyed your video.  It was well made and fun to watch.

Of course... more female nudity would have made it better.  :cometome:  You can never go wrong with a vampire lesbian three way.   :vampwink:

For something based on Anne Rice's work, I could see a remake being worth it. While I actually do like Queen of the Damned(the music certainly helped, although I still like it otherwise), the other movie I don't have any problems with(although I keep forgetting to get and read some of the books).

As for the video...I love that song.  :vampwink:

Thanks, guys.

I do agree that the music is what really put that movie into one of my favorites, but it has to be Stuart Townsend as Lestat too. I mean, yum.

As far as Underworld, I was not expecting this reboot because there seems to be so much more to happen after Awakening. They need to find Michael...again!

I heard the rumor was that Michael wasn't included because the actor wanted more money than they wanted to give.

Hmm, that does make sense. Maybe they weren't going to pay him as much because he had such a small appearance in the movie?  I don't know. You could tell Michael was CGI in the movie, but it did look like him.

I'd imagine that he might've had a bigger role at first, but once they realize that they couldn't get him for the part, his role was either reduced from what it was, or rewritten entirely(so he is barely present at all).

Actually might have to watch Awakening again, perhaps even buying it. Although last time I watched it, I got a rather nauseating headache half way through, but stuck it out. The smell of tartar sauce certainly didn't help(I had fish that night). But I don't think that has much to do with the movie itself.

I was thinking that as well. At least they didn't get a replacement actor. I think I would've been devastated to see someone try to play Michael like Scott Speedman did.

I can also see how something unrelated to a movie (headaches and the smell of tartar sauce) can ruin one's memory or experience watching the movie. I would give it a chance one more time. It was their highest grossing movie to date and adding that daughter element into it really shows another aspect of Selene.
