PbP Sandbox-Style Chronicle anyone
« on: October 20, 2010, 11:34:09 PM »
Gameplay style: Generally Sandbox with Story Driven Events. Will give details once its clear that there are enough people interested.

Intro:

Warm yellow light dims in your eyes and intensify as you come to, you are lying, no standing inside an open wooden casket providing a limited field of vision into the hall in front of you.  growing awareness of a strange sort of numbing pain in your chest but you can’t see it because your whole body is stiff unmoving.. some taste of blood.

As your eyes struggle to scan the room you realize it is a boardroom and the light emanates from wall lamps of modern design at the corner of the room next to framed oil painting that decorate the windowless walls. inn front of the walls at the center of the large boardroom is a massive conference table made of dark obsidian black stone, it seems to contrast with the light in the room around it, swallowing it in an almost threatening manner, Seated at the far end of the table are two figures a young man and a woman, both dressed in suits  who are talking amongst themselves as they look in your general direction.

“...They are Sabbat” the man exclaims “why are they even allowed to-”
The Woman looks away and the man stops and looks as well..

A third man fades into view from the corner of the casket moving towards the table He radiates a kind of commanding confidence  as he stands between you and the conference table.

“They are my guests Charles” The Third man says audibly as if addressing you as well with his words.“As you should know, The Antitribu blood alone doesn’t make one a Sabbat, these Kindred are part of the Camarilla until proven otherwise.”

‘Charles’ doesn't seem very content for some reason and he and the Third man who seems to be the leader exchange a look in a moment of unpleasant silence before Charles looks elsewhere..

“Why the stakes then?” The black haired Woman asked innocently.

The Man paused “That” He turns to face you “A necessary precaution, Awakening from Torpor can be a dangerous unpleasant matter when the thirst calls and to prevent a greater unpleasantness I thought its best to have you restrained to awaken you” his genuine expression is sympathizing  “I have learned of the misfortune that happened and on behalf of kindred kind I must offer my deepest apologies for the crime that was committed against you by others... I want you all to know that I do not take this matter lightly and have taken upon myself to personally awaken you, A Boon I hope you will appreciate in time.” The Man’s light brown eyes seem to survey you and whoever is besides you as his hands casually dig into the pockets of his expensive suit, his features makes it hard to discern his age

“I know You must have many questions about what has happened to you, for now I ask that you to Stay Here in my home under my protection at least until I have explained things in a proper manner”

He gives a nod to someone that must be standing behind the casket..
A hand reaches into the Casket from the side and you feel the Wooden stake withdrawing from your flesh as the rigidness fades away and your body can once again move.

Character Creation:
Characters are created per VTM Revised rules

Background:

Starting characters are newly embraced. The Characters all have been embraced against their will(No Shovels involved)by a Kindred wearing a ski mask each at different areas of the city. After passing out they found themselves awakening to a fit of semi consious red rage until everything turned to black again and the event described in the intro takes place

Aside from that mortal backgrounds can be anything realistically possible.

Its Ok to keep things simple and give a short bio of a few sentences as long as it describes who the character is how did the character became, what are his/her general goals and any secrets ,contacts or exceptional skills and attributes the character may have and why.

Stats
You are Allowed only one attribute at 4 dots , the rest must be three dots or below.

To further prevent twinkin
You are Allowed only one skill at 3 dots the rest must be 2 dots or below.
Clan selection
Clan:
All Clans that appear in VTM Revised Corebook are allowed .

Disciplines:
All Disciplines that appear in VTM Revised Corebook are allowed .

Your Disciplines at startup can't be higher than 1 dot.
I will allow the benefit of the doubt that a single discipline can be at 2 dots at startup if the character has a particular aptitude for it mentioned in the character background.

The Rational behind this is that your characters are newly embraced and its unreasonable to think that they had the time to learn to master a discipline to levels 3-5, most of their understanding of their powers is insitinctual at this point, please keep that in mind.

Gameplay notes:
Anything goes no restrictions but keep in mind that the game will still follow the rules in a realistic way.

IC knowledge about kindred at start is Fledgeling basic knowledge which means your character's understanding of what is Kindred is mostly instinctual and next to none at this basic point unless maybe they have occult rating.
This is ment to give new players a shot at the chronicle without being overwhelmed and to portray newly embraced characters more realistically.

Players roster so far:
Skyra
Aydoo
Cad
Isador
Kabatta

Sure,

Since there are not that many people interested (2-3 votes?)  I might as well start it as a regular chornicle with open-ended sandbox element to it with the possibility of expanding it into something bigger should more people join.

But first for others who votes or voted , I would like to know who the interested people are so please also leave some post to indicate you are interested because id hate to spend all that time writing for nothing if it turns out there are not enough people interested to start.

This dice roll has been tampered with!
Rolled 3d10 : 2, 10, 3, total 15

P.S whats with all the spam on this subforum?

Bah, was hoping to make a Human (DISAPOINTMENT). Oh well :> Are Caitiff allowed since technically we don't know any of our lineages? (I never did understand how that worked. Does the Curse of Caine have some timed expiration date that makes them clanless if they aren't taught within the few days? Its kind of lulzy.) Do we have a base generation limit ( only x ammount of background points able to be spent on generation if any at all?) The intro mentions Antitribu so are the Players Guide to the Sabbat (Revised) bloodlines allowed (City Gangrel or Toreador Antitribu for example which differ from the main branches of the clan)

Needlessly complicated! :D

Also since I want this to succeed, I've been awesome and uploaded the Core: Revised book. It can be found here:

(By downloading this you accept all responsibility blah blah, don't blame me.)

Get this while you can, no telling if Megaupload will take it down.

Admin edit: Per the rules of White Wolf's "Dark Pack", which PV is a part of, links to a free version of the core book can not be posted in the forum.

Sorry its hard for me to predict if Players prefer to start as human . Ideally there would be many Players and I would not have to restrict character creation in this way but as it is now to kickstart things everyone starts as Kindred, later additions to the cast may have to start as humans.

Caitiff are allowed and they are Vampires of unknown Lineage, Meaning their parent lineage isn't one of the established clans. Otherwise you can just a play a Gangrel who doesn't know s/he is a Gangrel.

About the Antitribu comment all I will say at this point is that it is an assumption made IC by a group of Camarilla Kindred doesn't mean its true or false.

You Can Create a Tremere even though Tremere is Camarilla specific.

To clarify I intended to restrict Clan choice at start mostly because I want less cardboard that seems to come with exotic bloodlines choices.

A Toreador that crossed over to the Sabbat doesn't change their Clan weakness even though they are considered Antitribu.

If you must though Toreador Antitribu, Gangrel Antitribu, Assamite Antitribu are allowed but you might recieve crap for it from Camarilla douchebags ;)
Lasombra Antitribu(found in the Camarilla) are also allowed.

Rest of the Bloodlines that do not appear in the Corebook are not allowed.

Generation:
Since being 8th generation(5 dots) practically puts a big 'diablerize me' sign over your head to anyone who knows about it, it might not be such a great idea.

The NPCs I make for this chronicle would be "Real" characters in the sense that They do Not have:
-Godmode
-Redicules stats
-Omniscient insight into your character sheet
-Protection of a mysteriou Plot-Powered "Coincidance" that saves them whenever they are in danger.

On the flipside the vlunrability mean that may try to work against you if they have enough IC motive and opportunity.
Most NPCs probably won't know you have a lower generation or won't care but the few  jealous ambitious type who might find out about it might see it as a threat and try to have you eliminated or worse take the power for their own.

PCs may also conspire to kill you if you use your lower generation too much.

So anyway I do not restrict Generation but these are some factors to consider.

A question, would you guys prefer to fast forward on the whole "Learning to be a Bloodsucking Vampire Post Embrace" part or prefer to start from that point?

Also I have not explicitly state a specific city where it all takes place, A fictional city might be good or I can use a slightly modfied version of one of the 'By Night Books':
-An exsisting city might feel more tangiable to people who know it but requires research and use of google maps(ex NY,Chicago,D.C, Amsterdam,Glasgow and so on)
-A fictional city can be more versatile but might require more description of the city (ex Gothham,Sin City, Matrix city,Damnation City).

I can also use a Real city but downplay the importance of historical research and all sorts of minor accuracys because chances are I never really read the guidebook.

Prominant real RL cities I have been to and can describe in relative accuracy : Amsterdam, Stockholm, Helsinki, Paris, Utrecht, Lyon, New York, Berlin and Antwerp.

Cities I can describe from TV or Videogames(sorry but abit lolz): Miami, LA, D.C, London, Glasgow, San Fran...

Have also been to other cities but I dont think its relevant because they are either too run down or the political regional climate can put a serious contriversial divide on the Masquerade and gameplay which will just be a burdening metaplot in itself.

Can also have the chornicle take place in the Country outside of a major city, the intro doesn't really commit me to anything specific yet so what is your choice?
