New features for the forum.
« on: April 04, 2019, 01:23:10 AM »
So Karma doesn't work in the forum anymore, and it isn't supported in the newer version of the software, so it won't be returning any time soon. However, I did install a mod that allows you to grade posts and rate them. You should be able to see that now, hopefully it's not too obtrusive.

Secondly, I've installed a module that may allow us to upload our mods to the forum through your account, instead of using our old files area. I'm mentioning it only because you may have questions if you see a "downloads" button in the top menu. I'm experimenting with it atm, and am not making any promises, just testing it's usefulness. If it is viable, we may need to tweak a few things on the server side, and I'd probably work on manually moving files over from the site's files area in mid to late May, when I'm on vacation recovering from being in mosh pits with nothing else to do while healing. I hope it works out as I intended because I paid decent money for it lol.

Pretty neat. Nice work.

Is there was any plans to update the available web links? ICQ, AIM, MSN and YIM - are there's even still about? I've never even heard of ICQ. I would suggest Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Discord and Reddit simply because I have them.

I'm looking for a mod that works for newer versions of SMF. So far no luck. There is one that says it should work, but it gives errors in pre-install.

In my mind, these new icons row under each post looks a bit distracting and not really fitting to overall site style, so I'd suggest to group them under some control (like "Rate this post") with pop-up list. If it's possible, of course...

Or make them more gothish

Plus I want to suggest to add, if possible, some silly ones (like rage comic faces....)

Thanks for the continued feedback. I don't know if I can change the location of the icons without some serious css editing that isn't really in my skillset. Traditionally the mods are just zip files that refer to images that can be replaced, so custom icons may be doable if we have a volunteer to make them.

With regards to emoji's, there is a massive stash of them included in the package I purchased yesterday that I could add at a later time.

To keep myself from getting a list of items as long as my arm to accomplish, I'd gladly accept some volunteers for altering themes, icons, and custom emojis ect. I may eventually get to the items listed here, but at some point I'll be shifting my main focus to manually setting up a downloads area built into the forum. I'm the kind of person who is only really capable of focusing on one thing at a time when attempting to provide something of quality.

To answer the feedback about the mobile theme and the rating icons, the mod had errors with the mobile theme in pre-install, so I couldn't enable it. However, I do share your feeling that we need a solid mobile theme, and I'll do my best to at least get one that works functionally first, then see if we can make it feel more like PV.

I'll probably slow down on adding new features until I get things a little more settled.

Take your time. You doing an important job and we all appreciate it.
I will wait for dark mobile theme, since I have no experience with doing it myself.

I uploaded yet another mobile theme to check out. I think I can alter it to have a nicer darker theme in the body.

I'm sure I can find a Lindsay Lohan theme for MooCHa  :vampwink:

Serious? That, as well as web links / contacts, is a simple task for anyone with basic web design / web programming skills. Should I add that you are already have a volunteer? However, if you need brand new icons, I'm no artist.

Sorry bro, I know should have just reached out to you, I just had a brain fart and was thinking about the files area. The theme that works best on my end is called smf4mobile. Jenya was having issues with it, but it works perfectly on my end. Could you test it out first on a mobile device to gauge your user experience? It's the only theme I've found that seems to be designed from the ground up for mobile devices. It's not the flashiest thing and doesn't cosmetically look like anything to write home about, but it's very functional for me. Secondarily, a darker theme fits PV a lot better than the white and blue. I'll send you a PM with the theme itself where we can chat further about it. It's a paid theme, so I don't want to post it publicly.

Not the regular smf4mobile, but smf4mobilemod-2. The regular one works fine.
