  •                 Hey folks,
Well first of all, I should say that I outright love the stories behind VtM and the romanticized, sort of god-like vampires. But sadly, I didn't enjoy PnP as much when I tried playing it... maybe my storyteller was a really bad one, but I found myself rolling the dice more often than talking and it just wasn't fun.
What I am looking for is to start a game based on VtM but really loose on the rules and without dice rolling... there is probably a term for this kind of play, but since I don't know it, I'll write an example:
     *Hanna drops an egg*
*John, who was just entering the house, sprints from the living room door to the kitchen and dives to catch the egg before it hits the floor*

It's a stupid example, but it illustrates the point... also note that I didn't say "John uses celerity to catch the egg"... unless it's absolutely necessary I rather have people imply that they are using which ever skill they are.

Since I have no experience being a Game Master I'd accept any volunteers should anyone be interested, but before a real game and a story gets started, I'd like to "meet" the people I'll be playing with and also meet their characters, that way there is a little shared history between the players and you get to know the "moods" of each character before the game starts.

Now, since MSN is the IM service I use the most, I'll leave my e-mail adress and anyone interested, please feel free to e-mail me or add me to their MSN's... if most people turns out to have some other IM program, then we'll use that for our games...

You can find me at jamanchu@hotmail.com.... wether you add me to MSN or not, please send me an e-mail telling me who you are, so that I can make sure I allow you to my list.

Thanks for your time guys and I'm sorry if I make any spelling mistakes or worded something awkwardly... it's 1 20 AM over here and english is my second language =D
Don't worry, I'm fluent in english but I haven't been sleeping much lately, so today my english skills have been a little sloppy

I'm in. I have some experience STing so I can do that if that is ok with everyone who wants to play.

With the dice thing, there is an online game I play where all the dice rolling is done by the ST behind the scenes, that way the players can forget the mechanics of the game and just role play what is what they are there for anyway. That’s just one idea anyway.

     Anyone else up for it?

Come on. There has to be someone else interested in playing VtM as well as talking about it.

what do you mean play a game on-line where story teller rolls? like in a chat where everyone tells the ST and he rolls as needed?

Exactly... the idea is to act out the scenes and the ST will roll the dice and decide if you achieve your goal or not. if we're a small group of people MSN will work alright... if we get to be more, then we could try mIRC or some other chat network.

My suggestion is search for the nearest LARP (Mind's Eye Theater) group still in the old system. Godamn you Requiem.

Thing is, playing LARP in such a small city as mine wouldn't be too wise, unless you want everyone to think you are a weirdo. I'm not concerned about myself, I can be subtle... but from what I've heard, not everyone can... and running into both some of my former classmates and a crazed 'vampire' would be pretty embarassing

well not all MET groups go throughout the whole town. Often times they'll take residence in a single building. And besides, being the crazy vampire is fun sad

well look around, they are either held in extremely public places, or they are held in a completely secluded place (well from outsiders) The best way to do it is walk through the mall or whatever with your hand in front of your face with your fingers splayed like the number five, but covering your face (that's the symbol for obfuscate) If anyone looks away suddenly or places their fingers to their eyes then approach them and make some mention that other players would notice. Something inconspicous like, "do I know you? You look like my friend Malkav" or something horrible like that. If they have any sort of reaction that implies they have ANY idea what you're talking about, ask them if they know where the local troupe is, and tada you have a group!

My problem was I didn't want to be thought a big time weirdo by my friends and.... YOU WANT ME TO WALK AROUND WITH A HAND ON MY FACE??? :P
Thanks for the help though... and just a quick update, the game may start off sometime soon... only problem is timezone difference but I guess we'll figure that out sooner or later

It can be fun I guess, but again, even if we stick around a shopping mall or something, sooner or later you'll find someone you know.... it's just too much of a risk!

I'd like to join this, but my knowledge of WoD is only limited to Bloodlines. Prior to this game I don't know anything about it. Does that still make me eligible?

And I know what you mean about the romanticized version of the god-like vampire. My outlook on them is similar.

Let me go and write this email...

Hand over your face, eh?  That might work, but to be honest I've played in over a dozen different LARPs and none of them used that gesture to represent the use of Obfuscate.  The best way to find a LARP is to do a Google or Yahoo Group search of your home town.

Actually, alot of the online places I've played in are done over IRC and the use of a central website to show characters and what not. The dice are handled by a program that runs on a "bot" (an automated script that displays in the channels).

If anyone is interested, there's a long-standing online game that just went through a StoryLine/game reset a few months ago.

     www.crimsonspot.com

It isn't *heavy* into dice, as the game revolves more around planning and subterfuge and putting the clues together (IE, Character interaction), than fighting. It is not a Combat Heavy game. The most rolling is usually the use of contacts or trying to convince NPCs of something.

if they use the hands crossed over chest thing, that was changed due to the fact that it's a gang signal in some weird gang somewhere and got some players shot. So they changed it to like wearing a mask, holding the mask over your face.
