Sometime either tonight or tomorrow an interesting experience is in store for each of your characters.  After that, the first night begins.

Hey, just want you to be aware, I'm going to be away from the Internet for about 4 days, from tomorrow (Thurs Aug 11) to Sunday Aug 14. Have a con in Philly so do yell at me if I can't reply urgently to something important. And you know next weekend/following week is another trip. I will do whatever you ask when I can.

Wait so you do want me to yell at you?

No problem, I understand.  If you lag behind gameplay wise, I'll 1 on 1 RP with you to catch you up when needed.

Also if everyone wouldn't mind posting a picture of their character that would be extremely useful for the other players me thinks.  It's nice to have both a description and a face to put to the words.  Not required, but would be damned decent.  I'll try to add pictures of all noteworthy NPC's you run into.

Go forth and frolic.

So all of us wake up in our respective havens having the same dream, and reacting the same by cackling maniacally on the floor? Also, you mentioned something about teams...do we all make a response to the dream before continuing?
Title: Re: OOC Chat
Post by: Aydoo on August 12, 2011, 04:40:24 am
I'm curious how the interaction or point of posting till there is interaction since others would not know what the individual characters are doing and its more of strolling narrative until there is any kind connection to the other players.

"I wake up."

"I'm like what the fuck."

"I go get sum blud."

"I wave to the Sherriff."

"I run into Malavis and we have words!"

I hear there is a guy who eats those things, but that's crazy. I bet they're delicious. I wish I knew that secret. He probably ate it though.
Title: Re: OOC Chat
Post by: Friktion on August 12, 2011, 04:24:56 pm
Yes, each player had the same experience and woke up the same way; that's why I made the introduction somewhat vague on specific details.  Now as for teams, don't you worry.  The teams are already locked in so don't worry about that.  They will become blatantly obvious very soon.

This is more of a "reactions to waking up on the wrong side of the floor" post.  A chance to role-play your character on for size before anything too huge is at stake.

Think of it as kind of... stretching.

Title: Re: OOC Chat
Post by: Friktion on August 29, 2011, 06:24:01 am
Pretty much each of you should only be able to see one room, either room 3 or room 4.  I have set up an OOC chat in each respective room.

Each room is designed for each team.  Very soon - in game - the teams will become very obvious as everyone is thrust into the meat and potatoes of the chronicle.  Each team will be allowed secret communication between teammates, however there will also be chapters here in the group dynamic as advances in plot/actions affect everyone.

In addition, check the prologue page every now and then as certain actions of the teams may influence the tone of various powers that be around Nocressio City.

In addition, players with the appropriate resources can request an "ear to the ground" roll in order to pick up information about either the other team or a major power in the city.  The roll will be dependent on how you plan on obtaining the information and can range from contacts to allies to politics to intimidation and the like.

Now in order to keep things fair and balanced between lots of posters and once every two day posters, I'm going to think of a way to make everything even.  Right now I'm thinking of each player only gets one "major action" roll per in-game night.  "Major action" rolls include anything that involves a player or NPC outside of their team.

I'm going to put down a disclaimer here:
Ashford has a really uncouth and bigoted streak, especially under duress- Likely to utter sexist, racial, or sexually intolerant things.
I, the player, feel none of these things myself: I am extremely supportive of the respective goals of sexual, racial, and gender equality fronts, and believe in total equality.

I wanted to get that out there early, so I could roleplay this character properly.

I'm confused but whats our relative positions to each other, and a more--- complete description of the immediate surrounding. From the narrative I got that we were all on stage suddenly yes?

Only 3 people made their way on stage, the rest of you are in your respective seats around the stage.

Specifically who are the 3 then...because i wrote assuming i was on stage as well.
Title: Re: OOC Chat
Post by: Friktion on September 02, 2011, 10:25:22 pm
That's no problem Aydoo. The three people on stage are those that were either on stage during the show or made their way onto the stage. (Ben, Victor, and Ashford) although Ashford has since disappeared.

I need to read all of the IC posts before replying in OOC, dammit!
Title: Re: OOC Chat
Post by: Malavis on September 02, 2011, 11:21:40 pm
Ashford would've been visible on stage for about 30 seconds, talking and laughing, and then stepping back into the shadows and vanishing- only to reappear in the spotlight on the far side.
Title: Re: OOC Chat
Post by: Malavis on September 02, 2011, 11:26:46 pm
Also for the record, Ashford is currently using Mask of a Thousand Faces, and his real face is not immediately visible to you.

He currently looks like this, but obviously without the spam:
Greatest picture in history, in my opinion.
Ashford is also wearing a brown tweed jacket over the white shirt.

Lastly, he has dropped the illusion from his voice, so the combination of the very gruff, deep, baritone voice coming from this rather dorky looking businessman is a rather strange juxtaposition.
Just in case that wasn't coming across clearly from the IC posts :) Wanted to make sure.

Naw thats all come across fine, it was just ironically the stage directions that was confusing me. (Starting position and such.)

I'm getting rid of counting 10's as 2 successes.  Since we don't use the 10-again rule anyway, there's no reason to give you guys free successes.

I love potence.
Title: Re: OOC Chat
Post by: Malavis on September 08, 2011, 10:40:49 pm
PS: Frik, I hope you don't mind me skipping inits since Ashford elected to go for a sucker punch with no warning- It's mostly for story purposes, so I streamlined a bit. If you'd like me to retcon that's no problem.

Ashford has his back turned, so to make up for me going first without an init roll I'll allow Victor to hit first if he wants to retaliate (Though OOC I wouldn't recommend it, haha)
Title: Re: OOC Chat
Post by: Friktion on September 09, 2011, 12:51:34 am
I couldn't have asked for a better performance Malavis!

As far as in character: everything that transpired is all good and stays as is.  It was a surprise attack, no dodge/block roll allowed.  Victor get's whalloped.

As far as out of character: combat rolls/numbers are a tad off.  No need to retcon, just for future awareness.

Firstly, your attack would be rolled at difficulty 7 (targeting the head).  Usually it's +2 difficulty to target the head, but I consider that to be more for weapons (especially ranged).  I halve targeting penalties for melee attacks.  So you rolled 1 success which is enough to punch Victor.  However it is still considered bashing damage, not lethal.  Although being shot in the head is considered lethal, being punched is still bashing.  Using something like a club or a 2x4 to the head will be kind of a case by case decision, but unarmed attacks are always bashing against vampires.  However you still deserve some kind of bonus for hitting someone in the head (otherwise mechanically why do it) and that bonus is dazing/knocking down the kindred as kindred don't get winded from body shots (they don't breathe.)

So you dealt 3 bashing damage to Victor (1 success + 2 auto potence).  Victor then rolls his soak (1 success) to reduce the total damage to 2 bashing, then it gets halved to 1 bashing damage + knockdown.  Generally 1 bashing isn't enough to knock someone down, but since it was a surprise attack and a blow to the head, I think getting dazed and/or laid out is appropriate.

Also as a side note, extra successes on your attack roll (dex + brawl) get added to your damage roll not actual damage.

Makes total sense- I like that interpretation of the rules. I'd think against a mortal though caving in their skull with potence 2 would be a lot easier ;) The rules definitely work in this case. Bashing it is!

-Yep, I was aware of that as well. My 2 extra successes were for potence. As far as I saw, I only hit with 1 die, so there were no extra successes for the unarmed attack beyond Str. Were there extra it would have been added to the damage dice, not tallied as automatic damage successes :)

I'll let you roll however you feel, or direct for this as I'll be at work all day.

Each tent has 3 Str/Dex, 3 Stam for soaking, and does STR +1 Lethal dmg, according to core. She has eight, 4 from first roll, and 4 from the two current rolls.

Consider the fact that the creation and attack happened on the same turn (she doesn't have to actively will them to attack so its not an action.) As far as every else's POV its as if she exploded into black tenticles from her various clothing holes (sleeves. under dress, and around her)
Title: Re: OOC Chat
Post by: Friktion on September 12, 2011, 12:11:55 am
Sorry Aydoo, but you don't get to make extended rolls for tentacles.  You can either stick with the four original tentacles you had, or dismiss them and try again.  It clearly states in the corebook that it's a "simple (never extended) roll."

From the corebook page 194, "If you only need one success to accomplish an action, the action in question is called a simple action.  But when you need multiple successes to score even a marginal success, you're undertaking an extended action."

So I will continue under the assumption that you would rather attack with the four premade tentacles rather than spending two bloodpoints in order to only have two tentacles.

Oh and Aydoo if you'd like, you can retcon your attack, just as a fair warning that what you're about to do may cause degeneration.
Title: Re: OOC Chat
Post by: Aydoo on September 12, 2011, 01:32:34 am
Why would it be an extended roll? The two rolls, were two different creations of tenticles. She can, as per her current generation, spend 2 BP per TURN, to power disciplines, and the such. Due to this she can use the power TWICE per turn. The tenticles attacking is not considered an action by HER, as per the obtenebration rules, unless she is otherwise super busy with something or being knocked unconcious. It takes no concentration on her part to actually make them attack. Those two rolls were two more creation attempts which in total yeilded 4 more tenticles due to the 4 successes. (Arms of the Abyss, each success rolled, diff 7, creates a tenticle.)
Title: Re: OOC Chat
Post by: Friktion on September 12, 2011, 01:50:13 am
You can't use the power again when it's already active.  That would be like activating celerity every turn to have dozens and dozens of extra turns.  While you can spend two blood points per turn, you cannot use them on the same ability before it runs out.  It would be different than say trying to create tentacles, failing, and then trying to create them again.  You rolled to activate an ability and succeeded, you cannot do so again until you "deactivate" said ability or it is deactivated for you (they are killed, you lose consciousness, etc.)

And although the attacking tentacles is not your action directly, you are commanding them to do so.  Sure you didn't pull the trigger, but tying a string around the trigger and then pulling the string doesn't make you any less culpable.

Benjamin is going to remain on the floor until somebody comes over to investigate, just for story purposes (HINT: come over and check on him! :p) It just makes more sense than him popping up and everything being ok again. Ashford probably makes the most sense (Malavis!), but others could work too, and be an interesting dynamic.

Holy fucking shit! I can connect to the forums again! PRAISE JEEEBUS!  I wonder if it's because I reinstalled Bloodlines last night?

So I profusely apologize for being MIA for so long, but I honestly kept getting a 404 error when trying to load the forums.  Yesterday, I decided on a whim to re-install Bloodlines and now I can connect again.  Peculiar behavior indeed.

So as far as this campaign is concerned, shall we press on or just let it die?

If Malavis is in, I'm game. I want to see where things go with Ben :)

Well Frik, Looks like you have a loyal player base that is good to go- So I don't have to type it 3 times, to the storytellers of the other games: I am down to continue those as well, provided we don't have another forum permabreak.

Well looks like the people (or at least three fifths of them) have spoken! I'm gonna think about a way to kind of get everyone on equal footing again.  More to come soon.

Also I realize the holidays are upon us, at least those of us who celebrate these holidays.  As such I understand if posts become sporadic, but I'm going to hope that even if you're not posting, you're reading the story.  We'll just pretend like your character has really, REALLY slow reflexes if you need to take an extended time off.

This is first time I've been able to access the forums or even had time, being as this is one of the busiest days in retail. I'm all for this though I may have to refresh where things were going.

Alrighty my good amigos.  Those of you continuing in our little mind-fuck of a chronicle can expect a sort of "recap" post as well as continuation of the story sometime today or tomorrow.  As far as I can tell the following players are remaining active (please correct if I'm wrong):

Malavis
Aydoo
Void
Llama

Rad, there will always be a spot for you if needed and if anyone else would like to join, I can accommodate them.

Edit: check the piggy bank for up-to-date rewards.  Voting is now close for chapter 2.0.

Elllo ello ello,

Sorry I been out of commission. My notify seems to not be going to my inbox anymore. Also I am changing jobs and will be traveling a lot in the next week.

If we do actually get this up and running again I have a close friend who plays in my real-life chronicle who would be interested in giving PbP a try to fill the insufferable gaps between each week's session

I've just got a little bit left in finishing up the next chapter.  I'm trying not to fly too much by the seat of my pants.

Your buddy is more than welcome to join; have him (or her) read up on the background/rules and send me a PM with any questions or character ideas.  We are coming up to a good spot for me to introduce another player.

Edit: Aaaaaand done.  Alright pimps and pimpettes, buckle up because it's go time!

Edit 2: To clarify Malavis, is Ash visible to others or no? Also is he on the stage or behind the curtain.  I got the impression that he was offstage and cloaked.

He poked his head out, in Obfuscate. As far as the type of Obfuscate: He carries Mask of a Thousand Faces, and is also using Unseen Presence (obfuscate 2).

After this last post, he made his way down into the seats to flank the cops.

Why hello all, I will be the new player joining after the next scene!

Greetings to you all!

I hope we all have a wonderful time being horrible horrible demon spawn children of the night.

Also I am Canadian, so expect many "Eh"s and discarded Tim Horton cups all about the OOC rooms.

Just in case it's not clear, Detective Weir is implying that the three (four if you count Sayuri) have kidnapped and/or murdered somebody.

Ben's haven, ben's call :) Ashford is just pretending to be a member of Ben's acting troupe, so he wouldn't speak out of turn.

Haha, well they do say the majority of communication is body language.  But part of that seems to be lost on the forums.

Fair enough, we shall wait for either Void to respond or me to continue.  However, as I'm somewhat sick right now, give me a few days to fix this conundrum I've placed us in.

Welcome back Void.  I just got some meds to fight back this nasty flu I caught so I was going to continue tomorrow or Wednesday.  Glad to see you made it just in time.

By the way, Vampires cannot spend blood to increase their social or mental attributes - only physical.  You still succeeded in your first role with flying colors, so I won't request a reroll, just give yourself a blood point back.

Post by: Voidshaper on January 24, 2012, 07:13:21 am
Thanks. That makes sense - I can't recall if anyone in my chronicle has been boosting non-physical attributes... but I'll keep an eye out for it from now on.

I hope Ashford did a good job hiding that body...

No worries, take your time.  If the characters decide to take their own paths, the campaign will be continued through private messages.
