Title: Chapter 3.0 Ace's Wild
Post by: Friktion on October 04, 2011, 01:55:19 AM
Blue and red lights start flickering through the windows of the humble theatre.

A heavy knock on the door.

"Hello, Benjamin?  Detective Weir.  We received a call about an accident, is everything okay?  Can you open the door please?"

A painful burst of laughter erupts in your head, causing another momentary blur of vision.

"Here's ado to lock up honesty
And honor from th' access of gentle visitors."

The Winter's Tale, Act 2 Scene 2[/color]

"Ah, shite." Benjamin unfolds his arms and looks at the door fearfully before spinning around to Ashford. "Ash..." he nods at his friend, eyes flashing to Daphne. He manages to slip Ashford a grim smile of thanks before addressing the others, looking at them in turn.

"You were all here for auditions," he says in a low voice.

Benjamin walks slow and confidently up the aisle without looking back. "Coming!" he shouts ahead of him. Hopefully Ash would have enough time...

"Detective Weir!" Benjamin exclaims, opening the heavy oak door to the theater and sliding outside. He keeps the door slightly ajar behind him. "It's good to see you - how can I be of help? What's this business you were saying about some accident?"

Ashford groans when  Ben turns back to look at him; he waits until the playwright turns around again, knowing full well that his treatment of the dead woman is not going to be as gentle as his friend would prefer.

In response to Victor's question, Ashford groans a little.

"I don't know... Look fuckin' actory or something... improvise. And buy me some time. Don't let these fuckers back here. Oh. And do something with this fuckin' blood."

Ashford grabs the woman by a leg and summarily throws her through the stage right curtain curtain, her body tumbling like a rag doll and landing with a loud thump.
Then Ashford simply isn't there anymore.

Ashford moves (In obfuscate) over to the woman's side, dragging her backstage and looking for an appropriate place to hide her- some particularly large piece of set decoration, a trap door, a particularly large and inconspicous looking box, really anything.

Outside the Theater hall Adam glances back as he sees the man , the detective knocking on the door, he adjusts his black suit's jacket as he considers for a moment but decide to leave it, better find that shadow lady , wherever she went , thinking she is needed to figure out what the hell is going on.

He looks around to see if he can find Sayuri anywhere, that nagging internal thought reminding him that its no good to hang around with all sorts of Sabbat types and yet he knew he couldn't just leave things at that and go about his business with that mind raper still out to get him.

Victor tries not to panic and runs behind the curtains to find mop and bucket perhaps.

He mutters to himself "This is not my specialty. She is just a casualty of war."

Since a lot of time (real life, not in-game) has elapsed since we picked this back up, I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone of what is going on as well as locations and etc.  I trust that you are all capable players that will be able to determine the difference between what you know and what your character knows.  if there are any mistakes on my part, please make the mention in OOC not in here and I will adjust

  • Victor is currently fumbling around backstage looking for a mop and bucket to try to clean up the bloody mess.  The body itself has been unceremoniously thrown in a backstage supplies closet.  Victor has heightened senses activated and is eavesdropping on the conversation between Benjamin and the police officer.  So far, the noise and general construction of the auditorium severely limit what he can overhear.
  • Ashford successfully, albeit clumsily hides the body.  He is, however, now very much aware of the blood splatter caused by his shenanigans.
  • Benjamin is outside with Detective Weir.  He notices Sayuri standing there speaking to an officer who immediately and suspiciously hides whatever he was showing to the girl as soon as Benjamin steps outside.  Benjamin actives Awe to impress Detective Weir as well as tries to read his aura.  Possibly due to the recent effects of frenzy as well as emotional damage that he has suffered, Benjamin cannot make any sense from the policeman's aura.  The colors cause Benjamin to experience a mild headache which, in turn, allow a slight, haunting giggle escape from his lips.  Benjamin suddenly notices that Detective Weir's pistol is drawn and pointed at the ground.
  • Sayuri is speaking with the second policeman and although she made her intentions quite clear to him, he does not seem to be catching the drift.  He adamantly stands there staring at her, then suddenly turns around facing Benjamin.  She glimpses an impish grin on the man's face.
  • Adam slips away, unseen, during the commotion.  He will be missed /hug

Detective Weir faces Benjamin, an obvious tired expression on his face.

"Can I come in Benjamin?  There's been reports of a murder in your auditorium and I'm not just talking about how you killed at the show."

Benjamin gets the distinct impression that the question is more of a formality instead of an actual request.

as soon as the body is hidden, Ashford immediately sets about cleaning up any evidence of the bloodstain all the way up to the edge of the stage, trusting that Victor will clean the floor ON stage.

"Oh my."

She raises a hand to cover her mouth in shock.

"Is such violence really necessary officer? This is a place of art and culture is it not?"

She motions to the building.

She turns to the officer smiling.

"I'm sure Mr...  Benjamin was it, knows nothing of this ghastly murder you've mentioned. I believe everything is ok here is it not and we can all go home."

She cocks her head slightly and twirls the umbrella being held.

The policeman standing next to Sayuri takes a step towards the detective; he lets out an exaggerated sigh.

"Maybe she's right, Weir.  I mean whoever thought of a murder at the theater?  What do you say we just call it in as a wild goose hunt and go home."

Detective Weir shoots the policeman an icy stare that causes the man to step back for a second before regaining his composure.

"S-s-sorry."  He stammers as he looks at the ground sheepishly.

Benjamin smiles and begins to speak in the calmest tone he can muster, given recent events.

"Thank you miss, but it's quite alright."

He looks Weir warmly in the eye.

"Detective Weir is just doing his job, isn't that right detective? Come on in if you like - the show just let out and it's a mite messy in there, I warn you. The ushers are still scraping gum from the backs of my seats."

Benjamin sighs, a weariness that isn't entirely feigned.

"People these days just don't respect the theater like they used to when we were young, do they?"

Ashford, upon thoroughly cleaning the bloodstain on the wall where the woman hit it, wipes the blood droplets back to the edge of the stage and pokes his head out ((Still in obfuscate)) upon hearing the tail end of that dialogue.

He turns to regard the detectives and mouths what the fuck?

Void, please roll Benjamin's Charisma + Performance for trying to put up a calm, cool front (difficulty 7 due to the Beast's recent control.)  Detective Weir is attempting to "read" you, but this roll will be in secret.  I don't want you to know what Weir thinks of you (unless you make a similar "reading" roll of course )

Detective Weir holsters his pistol as he proceeds into the theater ahead of Benjamin.  He pauses in the doorway for what seems to be an eternity, before passing through inside.  He addresses the lone man busying himself on the stage, "You there, please stop what you're doing and come here.  Keep your hands visible."

---

Outside, the uniformed policeman turns his attention back towards his notepad.  He stands firm, albeit confused.  It seems as if he doesn't quite know what to say or do.

Everything is going smoothly according to plan, right up until that fateful squeaky board.  You know, the one that you can't help but step on.

Detective Weir turns to face the man casually approaching him from the side.

"Sir, I'm going to need you to come here and keep your hands where I can see them.  Is there anyone else back stage?"  He turns to face Benjamin.  "Just how many employees do you have here right now, I'm going to need to speak to all of them."  The stern look on the tired detectives face indicates that his patience is beginning to wear thin.

Ashford winces imperceptibly, and then puts his hands out wide and grins at the officer. His head tilts rakishly in a "Who me?" expression, and he flashes a winning smile. He now has an almost Jack Sparrow air about him, his voice taking on a british accent. Benjamin better be fucking impressed by this.

"Just us. Caught us red handed, mate. Rehearsals, You know."

He grins once again, stumbling endearingly over the chairs, as though he always meant to do that...

In the interest of fun and saving time, I'm going to assume that none of you say/do anything too out of the ordinary while Detective Weir goes over the usual police questions.  He asks for your ID, your name, what you're doing here, how long you've worked here, and some other general background questions that are not all that interesting.  The interesting and/or possible story changing questions won't be glossed over in this fashion.

Detective Weir waits for the third man to approach before he asks several routine, background questions.  "We received a panicked phone call from a young woman, a Daphne, that she was being attacked by several men, including her employer, and a woman."  His icy stare turns to Benjamin.  "Now we show up and find several men, her employer, and a woman here.  And all attempts to contact her have been unsuccessful."

The detective begins to walk slowly towards the stage.  You notice he turns his attention towards the cluster of broken chairs.  "Had an accident over here Benjamin?"  He turns back to the three men.  "I'll tell you now, I don't have a warrant to search your theater, not yet at least.  However, it seems like something foul is happening here, so I don't think it would be too difficult to get one.  However, you could save me the trouble and simply give me permission to look about and we'll be out of your hair in no time at all."

He walks back to the group.  "How 'bout it?"

Ashford responds to all questions in a friendly, if foppish, manner- and also clearly appears to be attracted to the officer: In an attempt to make him just a touch uncomfortable so he'll leave sooner.

Benjamin answers the detective's questions quietly, attempting to emphasize a shocked concern in his demeanor.

"Daphne... She left for home early, right after the play started - the dear said she wasn't feeling well. Detective, you don't suppose...? Oh, no..." Benjamin's face contorts in grief (a farce more honest than his companions could possibly know).

"This is my fault." He puts his hand to his forehead and continues, animatedly shaken. "I should have had someone see her home, or called a cab for her - the show was starting and I made a snap decision to let her leave. And now you're telling me she's been attacked by some wretched gang?"

He lets the new accusation hang for a moment, disgusted and in disbelief.

"But bless the clever lass; to give you my name in her no-doubt addled and frightened state. She must have known I would be able to help. You've come to the right place, detective. Please - search around." Benjamin flashes a quick glance to Ashford and waves his hand, sweeping across the room.

"If there's anything you can find here that will lead us to where she went," he adds, "anything at all - please." Benjamin looks Weir straight in the face. "We have to make sure she's ok. Let me know what I can do - I won't be able to rest until I know she's safe."

Detective Weir listens to Benjamin intently, he seems to soften up upon hearing the out-pour of genuine grief.  He shakes his head, almost consolingly, as if ashamed to suspect Benjamin of possibly harming the girl.

Suddenly, he snaps back into reality.  "Really? You think she said that you were attacking her just so that we would come visit you?" He asks with a sarcastic cock of the head.  "Maybe."

cock of the head, giggle

He walks to the front door and beckons the other officer and the woman inside.  "Please wait here while we take a look around, shouldn't take more than ten minutes.  We're just going to quickly peak into the backrooms, dressing rooms, storage, stuff like that."

Detective Weir splits up from the other officer.  As the uniformed officer takes a look around the auditorium and makes his way to the stage, the detective then makes his way backstage.

You let out a slight chuckle, uh oh.

The two police officers make their way around the eerily quiet theater.  After what seems like an eternity, Detective Weir returns.  "Well everything seems to be in order, sorry for wasting your time."  You get the feeling that the policeman is hiding something, but perhaps it is just the dangers of an overactive imagination and a guilty conscience.

Then just as suddenly as they had arrived, the two men leave.  Their presence is now just a lingering memory, save for a business card that Detective Weir left on the door.

This will conclude the scene unless any players wish to extend it.

Benjamin lets out a dramatic and biologically unnecessary sigh upon the detective's exit.

"Daphne... 'christ." He looks up at the others standing in the aisle. "What in the nine pits o' hell is going on here? Who the fock was that nutter, and what's he want wit' us?" The rolling stops of a broken, stress-induced Irish accent spatter across Benjamin's speech like a frightened boy crying out for home.
