XP Pools And Other
« on: July 11, 2011, 07:29:04 PM »
The Experience Points Totals so far:

Name:  Total XP amount(both spent and unspent)  (  '+' = Special content unlock tickets,  '^' = ST Cards)
  • Gary: 9XP ++^^
  • Tomaz: 9XP  ++ ^
  • Sherie: 9XP ++ ^
  • Burke: 9XP +
  • Gwen: 9XP
  • Adrian: 9XP +^
  • Abigail: 9XP +

  '^' = ST card (Consumable, maximum pool: 2) :
Allows you to ask the ST  for Status and Misc Story stuff that shalt not be bestowedth onto every PC.

Note that the things gained this way can and probably will be lost due to the actions of other characters because they are just like every Story element

 '+' = Special content unlock ticket   (Consumable, maximum pool: unlimited)
Can be used to Request a special Discipline/ Devotion/ Background/ Ability/ Merit/ Flaw or other content found in:
-The Character's Clanbook.
-Guide to the Camarilla.
-Guide to the Sabbat.

This is subject to ST discretion though and must make some sense Story-Wise ( a Character can't suddenly develop new Merits,Powers and Ability with no IC reason to justify that transformation) .

Either way A character has to spend XP and meet the conditions to buy any of these as normal.

If anyone prefer that I keep these Stats hidden let me know and I will hide them, they are mostly visible now to test things and so people can voice their opinion about this system.

================================================================
Previous system related discussion stuff.
Spoiler for Hiden:

Some things to discuss:
I may edit it out once there is a decision but for the moment if possible I would like to hear your opinions and thoughts of the following:

Problems:
Looking at these I can already see some asymmetry between the characters on several levels:
  • Some scenes give more XP than others.
  • There are Characters that are new so they automatically get casted at the bottom which may be discouraging for new players.
  • May end up being disproportional to what the characters actually do or accomplish.
  • The fact that XP distribution is made public may pose a problem, even though characters with more XP are not always more powerful.

Possbile Solutions:
  • All scenes give Fixed amount of XP regardless of what the scene is . (I.E top RPer always gets 3xp and the rest always get 2xp)
  • Instead of XP difference, Award the players with the possibility of getting special content that helps develop the characters in interesting directions for example Clanbooks/Guidebooks Devotions/Merits/Discipline (under ST discretion so some of them would still be off limits on grounds of absurdity)
  • All New Characters Eventually get to catch up to the least experienced veteran Character,  However this is done in stages to prevent "Smart XP spending exploits"(Where Players save up on XP at character creation by min-maxing stuff if they have large amounts of starting XP)
  • In the long term Group players into tiers(Veterans ,Experienced , New) based on when they joined and daw a line beyond which you compensate the XP difference to level everyone of a specific tier to roughly the same playing field.
    For example the lowest level "Veteran" will never be more than 10 XP behind the rest.

Hmm those are valid points.

I don't think there's really a way to compensate for newer players being at the bottom unless they're allowed additional freebie points or they come into the chronicle with experience points.  A possible option in that regard is to take the average of all experience dished out and let the new character come into the campaign with it, but they cannot spend it for a scene or so?  Just looking at the average of the 7 characters you listed that would be 6.5 experience.  I'd say round down, fuck newcomers  :justabite:.

Some scenes do give more experience then others, but it's really up to the characters for the scene length.  Somehow me and Malavis managed to drag 3am to include massive amounts of mind-fucking.  We could have chosen to just go to sleep.  It makes sense that the more actions taken during a scene, the higher the experience for the scene.  Active characters get more experience than couch potatoes.

Thats not really how I was calculating things but regardless I think it needs revising because as it is now I don't see the Solid RP of some PCs getting rewarded relative to others in this way.

The Difference between a couch Potato and Active comes when spending XP since Regardless what system we end up going with I will not allow characters to spend XP on something without IC justification for it. (I.e if your Character did not practice shooting a gun during the chronicle why would he get more experienced at using firearms?).

Updated the first post

If you have any, please PM me or Post here with any protests, suggestions for improvement or problems etc that you see with this as I strive to make this fair for everyone.

And if you think these things should not be public I can also keep them hidden.

Changed things again because apparently some players mistook the ST Intervention thing to be some kind of God Mode or +1 Life which it isn't.

Anyway I don't want such things to affect how PCs RP their characters(or Metagame them out of fear of untimely demise because other characters are more fortunate to have it)

So I decided to change the function to something else.
