The Chronicle's pace
« on: November 11, 2010, 02:36:31 PM »
Hi Guys, so far the chronicle seems to move alot slower than I imagined it would.

I reduced my pace to one post per day and can keep it the way it is but it may cause loss of interest

My dilema is that I want to give PCs full opportunity to affect the course of events but on the other hand it can really drag out a simple scene for over a because some people do not post due to busy schedual on some days and I wait on these people to post
(and theres nothing wrong with that, RL comes first and I thing everyone of us finds himself at that position in some point)

The problem is that PCs can be set at the center of events and then do not post holding everyone else back.

To solve this problem I can:
  • Assume that characters who do not post after 24h remain passively at the scene as they were and either leave them or narrate them according to need
  • Assume that at all time everyone in a group is together even if they didn't announce that they stay behind for whatever reason
  • Retroactivly modify posts when the PC is finally able to post which may requiire everyone to modify their post accordingly in some situations..
  • waiting more than 24h to post on group scenarios

Please tell me what you think or if you see other solutions to solve this.

Option one seems the most fair and sensable.

I agree with option 1, personally:
Most times I will be able to make at least a short post from work every day, when I receive notification via e-mail that an IC post has been made. For me, unless the game takes place at 3AM, pacing is not a problem. It can go as fast as we want. Maybe my posts won't be as in-depth, but at the very least I can help move things forward in that way. :)

Accordingly, we might designate a certain day (Saturday?) to be a "high traffic" day, where players are encouraged to posted frequently, with the assurance that the other players will be around to likewise contribute to a more realtime kind of interaction.  Just a thought.  I plan to just go with the flow, regardless of the pace set by the ST and/or other players.

Saturday Sounds good on my part but have to make sure all other players are on board with this.

I prefer to have everyone on the same page when it comes to this, Past the intial plot I think it will be alot easier as characters do not have to stick together.

Sorry I skipped Posting today, it was partly due to the issue presented and that right now I came back from an all night shift  so ill post slightly later in the day this time.

No worries man :) Most saturdays work well for me- I work the 9-5er so evenings and weekends are usually reasonably easy for me to swing. Plus I can always post from my Ipad if I'm out and about ;)

Has the chronicle stalled? I waited around on Sat to see if any activity occurred, and have been checking the server actively, but activity has been very slow.

What's up?

I wanted to give Skyra and Cad a chance to post before proceeding but thats not really happening so ill just roll self-control for them and proceed I guess.

I do hope we can get this start part over with and go to the more open-sandbox gameplay.
If you guys prefer that I just skip from this point to 2 nights after or something like that please let me know.

Are you planning to eventually fade to black at some point, and then use a "one month later..." segue? It seems to me that might be a good way to get the characters to a point where they can function independently while catching the story up to realtime.  I'm not trying to rush the story progression; just wondering how much time you plan to spend on these first few days.

I do actually, not exactly a fade to black but more like a timelapse montage if thats what everyone wants.
Though there is really only one more thing the characters must know to function independantly so this rough start will be over soon enough.

Works for me :) However the ST wants to handle it.
