I hope not ;), but indeed just recently some people checked out all the sounds in the game files and pointed me to a lot and a few NPC lines too, that were not heard, so I restored what was reasonable.

Yup. The only safe way to keep these mods is to do this:

- pick the old UP patch designed by the mod to work on
- install the old UP, if not already installed, rename the mod directory to something like "Unofficial_Patch_OLD"
- pick the new UP and install it
- pick the mod, extract in a folder (named for example "Base")
- in a second folder ("old UP mod files") copy, from the old patch directory, all the files the mod should had modified (if not present on the mod directory pick it from the vanilla files/archives in the "Vampire" folder, if present)
- in a third folder ("new UP mod files") copy the same files but from the new directory (and in case the vanilla directory)
- now use any program to detect copied files (like "Searchmyfiles" or one of the extra utilities on CCleaner) and use it on both "old UP mod files" and "new UP mod files"
- whenever the program detect two files identical (and by that I mean with the same directory structure) delete both

If none where left then the mod should work. Otherwise:

- compare each couple of files manually. If comparing text files, like dialogs, Notepad++ with the compare files plugin (if not already present) is a life safer
- pick the respective file for each inspection in the "Base" directory and add every modification, wherever is present, into the file

It should work now. If not then other files in the new UP changed the file paths necessary for the mod. Then you must find out where is the problem. Good luck with that.

Well, keep in mind this works better with completely changed files (like textures). But if you have a file like a dialog, where modders usually modify only a small part, if the unmodded sections had a bug corrected in the newer patch you have to do this job. Specially if new content is added on the UP plus and only in dialogs you can see them.

Well, keep in mind this works better with completely changed files (like textures). Ah, dialogs, no I don't usually touch them, I ment everything else, especially sounds

A little suggestion. In the original game it was almost impossible for Fat Larry to be killed in the gang wars because he was far away, but in the plus version his is in the middle of the fight and sometimes he get killed. Wesp could you make him revive if he was killed by the gangsters but only if he was killed by the gangsters and not by the player? Or make him immortal as Bertram? But the last is far from good solution.

I don't think this is possible. I could only bring back another Larry which could be killed again...

He is already invincible until he gets damaged to prevent him from being killed by a random shot. But I guess he fights back too eagerly ;)!

Maybe you could increase his HP, that way he won't be so easily killed. If it possible of course.

Hm, I don't know. For a good catfight you need some kind of mudpit as well... :P

Is this really a problem? I can't remember having Larry die on me even if there were fights in his alley.
I have some ideas for a script to keep him invincible when he takes damage unless the player is around and armed. If you think you need it I can try to refine the idea and code it.

I think I fixed it quite good. He is invincible until he takes damage because normally the first shot kills him. After that he has double the health of the thugs, so he should have a fair chance with his Mac. If he is still killed, that's life :)!

It's been awhile since I had to start from scratch, which was caused by windows gameux bug. So I've got a couple install questions, first reading the ResPatch.exe shows my 16x9 with a FOV of 69. Is that really only 69 FOV or is it some special calculation? I normally run a minimum of 90 FOV, so what setting should I use?

Using ReShade/SweetFX Auto Detection failed but I don't recall which API VtMB uses.

Install64, is that something BUP use to install or is it something we need to run as a client/player?

That would explain why it was using 1920x1080 without ever using ResPatch. Any idea what about setting FOV, is it done through the command line?

Auto Detection wants to know what API Bloodlines uses, i.e. DX8, DX9, DX10, DX 11 and so on. So if you know we can set it manually, then it will install properly.

Cool, I'm using the Steam install so don't need Install64, thanks!

Thanks it's been awhile since I played and didn't recall if FOV was a command.

If you click on the 'ReShade Setup.exe' a little popup ask which game/directory and tries to auto set. If it fails you can choose which API (dx9 here) and it installs everything for you. So you get SweetFX and ReShade installed and working automatically.  :vampwink:

She means there are glass gibs spawning from the tzimisce creations on hitting them instead of meat/bloody ones.

Oh, I never saw that before. But randomly it happens that blood splatters on walls look like bullet holes instead!

P.S.: I tested this on my system and it seems the headrunners don't spawn any hit particles, just the last ones.

If I understand you correctly - when you hit the glass, and then you hit these creatures of Tzimisce and glass fragments fall out of them instead of blood particles, then this is just an unrecoverable engine glitch or something like that ?!

P.S. After a few tests, I noticed that this effect of "fragments" disappears after the 3rd or 4th murder...

Yes. At least they don't spawn any blood for me! Please test this again in the sewer maps. What particles do they give off on being hit?

Hello again!
I ran through the sewers and noticed that when I attacked the creatures of Tzimice, no particles of blood fell from them (this only happened if they exploded after their death)...
Basically, it was incomprehensible shards of glass, some kind of smoke (as if you had hit any edged weapon against the wall) or no reaction to the blow - as if you were striking into the void.

This is my experience too, but right now I have no idea on how to spawn the correct blood particles. Their surface is already set to flesh...

I don't know anything how the game decides which particles to show. Sometimes the material is mentioned in the model itself, but that's it...

As I wrote, according to the SDK model viewer, the headrunners already have the correct type "flesh" set. Only it doesn's trigger...

I just tested it some more and the splatters are fine when using ranged weapons, so the problem is not with the model, but the hit detection! I can imagine it's a similar problem like breaking glass using melee. Anyway, at least while testing it I noticed that EntenSchreck added some weird hit effects a time ago that I have now removed...

Sorry, I’ve been a little dumb. I just needed to shoot in them!... just in my walkthroughs I rarely use firearms...But I am glad that the cause of this problem was found and eliminated. Thanks you!

is it true that some mods have extra lines  for NPCs with similar voices?i was wondering last night about several unused lines that have no sound file as the Barabbah pointed out and if i remember correctly i read that some of mods had semi-professional voice actors.

Only burgermeister from the CQM has ever paid professional voice-actors to record voices for new and known characters. In some cases the differences can hardly to be heard when the character is met at differerent places, but this wouldn't work for single unvoiced lines...

In the Clan Quest Mod? Certainly Andrei, because I used some in the UP with burgermeister's permission. I think LaCroix too, but the last time I played it there were huge dialogues of Nines and Bertram not voiced because it's rather difficult to find voice actors that really sound close to the original...

I decided to add a little realism, and imagine that this note will be a fragment from Carlson's diary:
"... it seems that the matter is very serious, and I should check out another interesting institution. Perhaps I will leave this note here, in case something goes wrong."

I just had a thought as well: I noticed while testing something that if you kill the blood dolls in clubs, nothing happens apart from the loss of humanity. I know you can feed freely from them because it looks like you're making out or something, but surely if a woman drops dead from your arms people should notice...and trigger a criminal violation?

We already had this discussion but it's impossible to solve. If people would notice you killed people in a club the reasonable thing would be to close the club down by the police. Thus losing all connected quests and you have main or side quests originating in all of them!

Realistically, yes, but let's face it, crime isn't exactly handled realistically in this game anyway, the way a cop could be gunning you down one minute then 10 minutes later you can pass by them and they'll have forgotten you. :P

I figured it could work like an alert, with you having to lie low until it passes, but I understand it's probably more trouble than it's worth. There's no real benefit to killing the blood dolls anyway.

To teh serial killer?  with the UP you can talk him down from killing more people and cand send him to the Last Round. I think, you even get humanity for that. ANd my question was, if it would be possible, to just put him somewhere in teh Last Round after the quest, maybe upstairs with Damsel (she actually seems to me the most likely person to help him cope. She can be sympathetic, but she would keep him grounded)

How about empty short dialogs? He just says nothing, with an expression of gratitude or something like that, one reply by the player and end of the dialogue?

You can tell him that Nines is the head vampire he needs to kill and I figured that Nines would have no problems dodging the attack and convincing Copper to join the Anarchs instead.

@Wesp. I wouldn't remove the humanity loss for sending Copper to Nines. To the pc's knowledge this is as much a suicide mission as the other options.

Judging from your experience of Nines, he saved you after all, I think it would be reasonable to assume that Copper wont be killed. A humanity gain during the endgame makes no sense, as well as having two options with the same result...

OK, I never used that option. I love sending him after Lacroix or the president though. But this playthrough I just spelled him the gum and some blood. My Malk is not that cruel, she just needed money

Am I the only one who has issues with Barabus's AI? Once we start the escape mission he always seems to attack a guard I am feeding on.
Not sure about 10.4, Barabus's AI has been a problem previously.

I like the changes to the Library quest, but:

Scott's note says he's hiding in the "the shop on the move in Santa Monica" and that the password is the "city of the coffin," which are subtle enough. Players don't get told directly but it's not hard to figure out.

The quest log, however, stills says "At the end of the Santa Monica pier you found signs of a bloody fight and a hastily scrawled paper telling you to investigate the Santa Monica Coffee Shop. The password is Scott's clan."

The first part removes the need to work out what "shop on the move" means: it directly tells you it's the coffee shop. The second part is flat out wrong, since the password has been changed. I'd suggest something like:

"At the end of the Santa Monica pier you found signs of a bloody fight and a hastily scrawled paper telling you to investigate a 'shop on the move' in Santa Monica. The password is the 'city of the coffin,' whatever that means."

I have a problem with the library lasombra. It seems animalism isn't only ineffective but also makes him harder to defeat.
Looks like only the first hit with spectral wolf or pestillence causes damage at all. But the main problem is that during the time he is incapacitated by the discipline effect, he has already started the teleport animation which makes him invulnerable to bullets.

Wesp, you should also take a look at the replies for prince2.dlg line 81.
I don't think you should have both sets of replies available when you're totally out of his grace. Looks a bit weird when you have the same two replies twice.

I just imagined this scene: the lasombra, when he's in real difficulty (like at 5% of life), he uses all his powers left to cloak all the ritual chamber in pure darkness. You can see the player, the hud, particles, floating bullets and swinging melee weapons but nothing else

Weird, this works fine on my system so it must have been a random bug.

What file(s) do I mod to get the effects I used to get from modding clandoc000.txt? I tried a complete rewrite and then one simple change, nothing happens. Using the one in "..\Steam\steamapps\common\Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines\Unofficial_Patch\vdata\system".

Edit: No luck. I must be doing something wrong. I'll keep plugging away at it.

Edit 2: Ok, as a test I went to the Tremere clandata section, set all the attributes alternating between 1 and 2; so strength 1, dexterity 2, stamina 1, charisma 2 and so on. Then I went to abilities and set them rotating from 1-3; so Brawl 1, dodge 2, intimidation 3, subterfuge 1 and so on (skipping the commented out ones like Animal_Ken and Occult). Finally I added three disciplines and changed the stats similarly to 1/2/1/2/1/2. I also checked that my steam settings had " -game Unofficial_Patch" in the launch options and it was not misspelled.

Started the game, skipped the questions, changed the clan selection three times, changed gender selection twice, changed history three times then went to the stats page...absolutely no effect whatsoever.

Then the stats defined there probably are not used, or were intended for multiplayer. After all in the single player game, all clans start with the same stats!

Yes. This was removed because it's very obviously an exploit to sell them to vendors, who magically copy them, so you can buy them back multipled times!

Edit: "Fixed" it, now I can get rid of them instead of having to store them in my haven stash.
