Time to focus on prelude! hehe

What do you mean by "forced patch folder"?

What do you mean by "forced patch folder"?

The installer will check if vampire.exe is in the main folder, otherwise it will not install. I hope to avoid the typical Steam user issues caused by people installing the UP into the wrong folder...

Small Update to RC 2...

v10.5                                                  10.10.2019

Made Serial quest independent from Muddy.

Can you elaborate?

The Serial Killer quest and the Find Muddy quest for Arthur Kilpatrick are not really connected, but in the original game you couldn't finish the Serial Killer quest if you didn't finish the Find Muddy quest. I fixed that...

DDLullu, I included Velvet's lapdance from the Clan Quest Mod in the latest patch, but the lap dancing animations look weird if female player models are involved. Can you please try to fix that like you did with the Lily animation and others? The animations are:

models/cinematic/Hollywood/Vesuvius/Lap_danceGroup_4_fat.mdl
models/cinematic/Hollywood/Vesuvius/Lap_danceGroup_2.mdl
models/cinematic/Hollywood/Vesuvius/Lap_danceGroup_3.mdl

Hi, the newspaper lying outside the room in Santa Monica (beginning of the game) doesn't display any image. Reading it just updates the quest log. I'm using 10.5 RC 2.

Interesting. Does this bug still occur after you visited the pier victim?

Not because of this issue, the newspaper will look correct once you leave and come back. Also I don't know yet when RC 3 will be out...

I would really like it if the Malkavian whispers were toned down, both in volume and frequency. For as few as there are, I feel they come up far too frequently, and too loudly, and it just got extremely annoying, especially when talking to an npc and trying to listen to them and suddenly "STOP DOING THAT; MOTHER SHAN'T BE PLEASED" plays for the 100th time and drowns out a full sentence from whoever i'm listening to.

Sorry, but you are the first one I remember complaining about this. As far as I know they only play during idle animations, all whispers during dialogue are intended...

I don't mean this dismissively @ArchmageJoda, but you are playing a Malkavian, those voices *should* be annoying and driving you crazy. I love that feature, but maybe an option somewhere or a guide to delete them could help some people?

Also the subtitles can be brought on temporarily by pressing LMB if you have problem hearing the dialogue a have them switched off globally.

Yes, I have the same issue, unplayable stuttering/low fps in diner.

Edit: 10.5 RC2 via Steam, nVidia RTX 2070, driver 418.91, Windows 10 Pro 64b 1809, Intel i7 930 @2,8GHz, 12GB RAM

Okay, today the stuttering is a little better and seems to gradually get worse while staying in the diner. Reloading does not work, but restarting the game does.

The console is being spammed with (this stops after exiting the diner):
DataTable warning: Out-of-range value (1013.333313) in SendPropFloat 'playbackrate0', clamping.
DataTable warning: Out-of-range value (304.000000) in SendPropFloat 'playbackrate1', clamping.
DataTable warning: Out-of-range value (304.000000) in SendPropFloat 'playbackrate2', clamping.

I had to temporarily remove 10.5 RC 3 because Rik Schaffer needs to contact Sony if usage of two new pieces from the OST is okay. For now I uploaded the patch without them, it should be available again soon!

Weird, I have solid 20 FPS on an old AMD Athlon 64 X2 3.800 with a NVIDIA Geforce 210 at full HD. And I don't get the console warnings either! Is this at a special time in the diner? Like when the phone rings or the thugs are around? Or did you drop an item somewhere?
Title: Re: Unofficial Patch 10.5 released!
Post by: Plague on October 30, 2019, 11:44:03 PM
Ha! You got it!

So today there is no stutter and no console logs. I already finished Tourette resolution, so there are no guys present.

An older save before the Ocean Hotel, some stutter and console is being spammed. There is one guy in the left corner.

New game, first entry to Diner, *massive* stuttering. The guy is Milton being on the phone (which is something I noticed first on this playthrough), Durbin is being mentioned in the phone call.

They were not playing only during idle animations for me, they were coming up frequently in actual conversations when I was picking my dialogue options.

I still don't get the effect, but this restored sound has a higher bitrate than normal so I will fix it for the next patch. Maybe you could test the attached one for me? It goes into sound/character/dlg/santa monica/killer.

During dialogue only specific voices should be heard that are indeed intended to give you some insight about whom you are talking to.

Yes, these voices are sorted by folders with names like "danger", so if you speak with someone dangerous you'll get one of these random whispers.

That did not work with the spamming nor the stutter. What is strange though is that today the stutter is not that big (even with the old .mp3). I used the same saves as yesterday. But I am testing after a fresh start, so maybe session length makes it worse.

I know, that's why I suggest to temporarily enable subtitles using LMB, that only works during conversations.

That is weird, Heather has no specific whispers. Maybe the NPC distance detection is not working? Can you please check the console and look for Python comments like "no idle near NPC"?

Yeah that's it. The "talk" icon pops up earlier than the log "no anims, moving" becomes "no anims, pc near npc". If I get closer before talking the whispers are not there (not tested extensively, but the logs are clear enough).

Now this is weird as I didn't add any new sound files for Kiki or Wong Ho there. Or are you playing a Malkavian and get the stutter when the hostess is phoning?

I don´t like this change maybe the broadsword should be more powerful.

I really not a weapons geek but what weapon is in real life more deadly? A Katana or an european broadsword?

In real life? 100 % the european broadsword.

Here is a german documentation (German Language) about a Katana und a German Sword. There a direct comparison is shown.

Great stuff. Thanks a lot. :) So after this informative vid maybe the Boardsword should be more powerful than the Katana.
But the Tal'Mahe'Ra Blade (Super Katana) is of course still the more poweful weapon than the Boardsword.

The broadsword is already comparable to the katana, but it still is overkill if the player could get two of the most powerfull melee weapons during a side quest!

Yeah that was my point, the fact that you get them at once, so I got from a knife directly to katana without playing with the broadsword for a while.

As for my soundsystem I use the onboard intel HD Audio.

Wesp5 quote: "but you can own the katana by that time anyway..."
The LaSombra Quest is only available when the player reach Chinatown. And in Chinatown the player gets the Katana either through Zhaos, Johnny
or the Mandarin Quest. So does that  really matter?
In my opinion the LaSombra shouldn´t have a boring knife which most common human thugs have.

And are you sure that Broadsword is not (slightly?) weaker than the Katana?

How about broadsword vs broadsword?
Good idea. The only technicial question is can the LaSombra wear and fight with a Broadsword?

He uses an Uzi so a knife would fit better to that than a katana. And his tactic is to avoid melee fighting anyway!

Quote

Maybe. I tried both against Ming and the difference isn't much! The broadsword has lower SkillRequirement and higher BaseLethality but lower dmg.

Quote

Besides that this would mess the cutscene up, the Lasombra only drops his melee weapon if you kill him while in melee so you might end up missing it!

Really? He isn´t using a Mac 10. ;)
A Uzi is more unique and better fit for a Boss fight.

So to give him a knife makes him less of a Boss fight. Just another enemy with a knife.

Quote
Besides that this would mess the cutscene up, the Lasombra only drops his melee weapon if you kill him while in melee so you might end up missing it!
Why? The cutscene could still be the same. The player grabs the Broadsword and fights the LaSombra who has also a Broadsword.
So we have a nice duel with Broadswords.
Also who fights with a knife when you have a broadsword nearby? Makes less sense to me. ;)

Edit: Or just give the LaSombra the weaker version of the Katana the Shin Gunto. :)

I mean an Uzi is small hideable firearm which fits good to an emergency knife. That guy is wearing a suit, I can't really imagine him carrying a broadsword around!

Quote
So we have a nice duel with Broadswords.

That would look stupid and we would have a double "unique" weapon! The broadsword is intended to be a ritual weapon for that situation only.

Quote
Or just give the LaSombra the weaker version of the Katana the Shin Gunto. :)

I already contemplated that, but after my reasoning above I think a knife would make more sense. IanW, what would fit a Lasombra the best?

Of course he isn´t always carrying this thing but if he had choose between an broadsword which already lie around or a knife well i would take the sword. ;)

Quote

Why the player can only pick up one broadsword. So the LaSombra sword is useless unless the player sell or store his sword and then comes back.
And who does that (besides me perhaps)

Or the LaSombra drops only the Uzi and still fights with Broadsword.

Quote
I already contemplated that, but after my reasoning above I think a knife would make more sense. IanW, what would fit a Lasombra the best?
Why???
After all these years the Katana was ok for the LaSombra to wear but now not the " mass-produced version of the traditional Japanese katana. "
which basically the same weaker weapon?
Sorry Wesp but this makes even less sense (at least for me) :)

I believe the Shin Gunto is a good compromise. The knife on the other hand we already have plently enough of enemies who fights with knifes.

He can't use the sword because the player gets it first!

I actually never cared about his melee weapon as I usually kill him with firearms. But now as we are already discussing it, we could as well ask a WoW VTM professional.

Hm. Can you just go into the sound folder and play the mp3s there to see if some of them cause problems and others don't?
Both mp3s that cause the stutter (killer at diner, hostess at red dragon) play fine in winamp, WMP and SMPlayer. I checked the logs of mplayer/mpv and there is nothing reported out of the ordinary, both sound fine. Task manager did not show any high CPU loads.

---

As for the katana/knife/broadsword (since I apparently woke a beast there), the kanata at the point when I did the library quest was quite a few quests in the future, so I stand by the point that it does matter.

Katana is more powerful with higher melee stat (it overtakes the sword at melee combat 7).

Having Lasombra drop another broadsword is the best mechanics-wise because it would just be an unpickable item by that point, although I get the suit argument wesp5 makes.

Also I have played the game multiple times and this is the first time it dropped, which makes sense because it only does that when actually using it in melee which it it not prone to do. So by that measure having a knife would matter little when it does drop. But dropping the katana can "mess up" the loot curve a bit.

I got to the VV cutscene you added recently and after it was over (and I got the autohgraphed photo reward notification), I saw only black plus the stadard life/mana bars and crosshair).

Looking around I see that I seem to be outside the map or something like that. Console complains it cannot find actors pcClone and VV_lapdance.

As for the katana/knife/broadsword (since I apparently woke a beast there), the kanata at the point when I did the library quest was quite a few quests in the future, so I stand by the point that it does matter.
Sorry but no it doesn´t. ;)
You can start the Library quest only at Chinatown and you get the earliest katana at Zhao.
Yeah there some quests in between but only one or two with fights.

Quote
Having Lasombra drop another broadsword is the best mechanics-wise because it would just be an unpickable item by that point, although I get the suit argument wesp5 makes.
Well have you guys for example ever saw Highlander 1 (the rest doesn´t exist by the way)
A suit foe  (and MacLeod) can still wear something bigger than a knife under suit. Starts at 2:20

Quote
Also I have played the game multiple times and this is the first time it dropped, which makes sense because it only does that when actually using it in melee which it it not prone to do. So by that measure having a knife would matter little when it does drop. But dropping the katana can "mess up" the loot curve a bit.
For me the Uzi is a lot more rare because i favor melee over gun so i often get the Katana.  The Katana isn´t therefore really new.

Maybe we can find a good compromise for all. What do you think about given the LaSombra a Shin Gunto instead of the Katana?

Which clan and gender is your character?
My last one was female Toreador and it was also bugged. Also the neck and feets of my character were much longer in the scene as it should it be.
I already reported this to Wesp.

You can start the Library quest only at Chinatown and you get the earliest katana at Zhao.

Stilll it depends on the play style. If you do sidequests first, like I do, you won't get a katana for some time! Also if you are a ranged fighter chances are high again that the Tong don't drop a katana in the first place...

Quote
A suit foe  (and MacLeod) can still wear something bigger than a knife under suit.

Yeah, because they didn't have the swords before they draw them. I did some larping and the only reasonable way to carry a katana around would be like Blade or the Society of Leopold hunters do! From which it would be near impossible to draw it out though. But I think this should be no argument as the player carries dozends of weapons regardless of his clothes :)!

Quote

See above, different play styles have different issues.

It's probably what I will end up doing, but I would like to have a comment of IanW on this nevertheless ;)!

Quote

That is not relevant for the black screen, which the last RC should have fixed though. So I hope that Plague played RC 1 or RC 2...

Quote
Also the neck and feets of my character were much longer in the scene as it should it be.

This is a typical problem of models in cutscenes and only DDLullu would be able to fix it.

I have the one with the bugged newspaper in Santa Monica haven, so it should be RC2 (I don know how to check the version other than looking at the changelog and RCs are not part of it).
Solved then :)

Not sure where this belongs but I feel the 10.X walkthrough supplied with the UP really needs some updated in the MAIN QUEST: ELIZABETHAN RENDEZVOUS section.

It describes "The Easy Way:" mostly as the hard way even though the officer helping the player explicitly tells the player how to proceed.

I made videos showing my interpretation of The Easy Way (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ICF8_Ctbyk) following the officers instructions and The Hard Way (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ_TdvZ8G2w) utilizing the Records Room key. The Hard Way video is done in UP 9.5 as it is not possible to use the Records Room key in 10.4 (and I assume 10.X).

I also tried my hand at a rough draft of updating the text. I have only done this with the basic patch and am assuming the XP and other info is the same for plus.

The Easy Way:
When you reach the ship you'll see a policeman near you. If you approach him he'll talk to you. It seems that he was bribed by someone to let a reporter on the ship. You can persuade him (level 4) that you're that reporter and he'll give you the POLICE REPORT (1 XP) and instructions on how to proceed: "Head down the stairs behind you and stay low. When you get down there, wait for me to call off the guy guarding Gangway A. As soon as he leaves, get your ass moving, and DON'T let him see you. I'll give you a couple minutes but don't dilly-dally. In and out, 'k?" (When the guard on Gangway A leaves head down Gangway A and into the first door on the right.) Next he will say: "Don't forget to stay out of sight - if anyone sees you, you're on your own. Take the stairs up to the security room - there'll be a computer in there. The password is Lighthouse. Lighthouse. All one word. You gettin' all this?" (In the security room use 'lighthouse' password to unlock 'control' menu. Turn the 'deck cams on' and 'unlock records' then exit the computer screen and cycle through the security cameras on the monitor next to the computer until you see the one focused on the sarcophagus (1 XP).

Now exit the security room using the same door you entered and go back down the stairs and find the Records Room door. Enter the Records Room and pick up the SHIP MANIFEST (1 XP) from the table and the quest requirements are complete. Now exit without killing anyone either through the door near the records room or the way you originally came just running past the guards. If you have been quick enough the guard on Gangway A will still not be back yet.

The Hard Way:
If you can't persuade the policeman, then you'll have to do it the hard way. These instruction are for players without Obfuscate, if you have Obfuscate this will still be easy. Anyway, you now have to get close to the sarcophagus.

Climb the ladder onto the ship and proceed down the deck to the first set of stairs (Gangway B). Descend down the stairs and continue forward until coming to the first door to the right, enter the door and descend the next set of stairs and through the door at the bottom, continue down the corridor and lockpick the next door you come to. Now you are in a room with some stairs going up and a locked Records Room door. Lockpick the Records Room door and get the SHIP MANIFEST (1 XP) from the table. Lockpick the door closest to the two file cabinets and you can exit onto the outside main deck of the ship. This whole area is full of patrolling cops and huge containers. On the side of some of the containers you'll see a little ladder. What you need to do now is to climb onto those containers and try to avoid being seen by the cops.

The ladders are one way meaning you climb on top of a container and drop down on the opposite side to bypass guards but there is no ladder on that side to get back up onto the container. So the route is roughly a large anticlockwise circle down one side of the ship, around behind the sarcophagus, and up the opposite side of the ship back to where you started. Part way down the route to the sarcophagus there is a small area with a table and two stacked containers with ladders to take you up onto the top. On the table will be the the POLICE REPORT (1 XP), pick up the police report and climb up onto the stacked containers. Watch the two guards patrol pattern and time dropping down so that they will not detect you.

At the end of this route you have the option to drop down and exit back through the Records Room or through Gangway A. Going back through the Records Room is usually best but you may be detected either way in which case just run past the guards and exit.

Take the boat back to Santa Monica beach and if you've avoided killing any cops you'll get a bonus (2 XP). Go talk to LaCroix (2 XP) and receive the Skyeline Apartments haven as a reward (if you've been polite to him and you're not a Tremere or a Nosferatu). He'll then give you the [CALLING DR. GROUT] quest.

It describes "The Easy Way:" mostly as the hard way even though the officer helping the player explicitly tells the player how to proceed.

So there is no need to explain this further in the walkthrough, also it never cites NPC text as far as I know. Let the player do something himself ;)!

The Hard Way video is done in UP 9.5 as it is not possible to use the Records Room key in 10.4 (and I assume 10.X).

The records room key works fine in 10.X, but weird enough it only unlocks the doors from the outside, which I have fixed now!

Merry Christmas everyone! As a late present 10.5 RC 6 is now available from ModDB, see the link below. What was intended to be the final turned into RC 6 because of a lot of feedback from the Russian community collected by Psycho-A! You won't notice most of the fixes, but I would like some comments especially on Nines' new line in the intro...

I found and restored two new lines. One is not understandable as he mutters it to himself (you can take a look at the dlg file to see what he says ;), but the other is clear and might change his reaction a bit too much...

You're right, it ruins the moment. Maybe place it elsewhere (like a random floating line, an extra dialog or some malk stuff)

Here is the line: "All I'm sayin' is that he better not do it."

And sorry i also must say this ruins the scene. Sometimes and an especially in this heated atmosphere less words are more powerful.
In my opinion Nines should only say: "This is Bullshit" and that´s it.

I assume during the development Troika went with this dialogue before:
"Now, this... bullshit. I can't fuckin' bel... it. This guy's outta his fuckin'... his fuckin'... oh... get that fuckin' asshole.
All I'm sayin' is that he better not do it. THIS IS BULLSHIT!"
but cut it because its to long and maybe too cliche for Nines to say that.

By the way i also not a fan of Nines muttering. The theatre scene was perfect before there is no need for changing anything.

Maybe a bit cheesy but the scene is more powerful than both LaCroix and Nines aren´t saying anything after Nines said: "This is Bullshit".

Sorry i know that i sound like a jerk right now with this comparison but this reminds me and again sorry when George Lucas changed this and
that in every new rerelease of the original trilogy.
Like Darth Vaders NO this ruins for me the theatre confrontation scene and should be removed.

Well i don´t think that many people share your opinion on this topic. ;)
Of course its not that bad as Greedo or Hayden Christensen als the force ghost of Anakin but i would argue that is one of worst.

And Sequels well Prequels have tried to tell new stuff but haven´t succeed. Parts of Episode 3 were good.
But the modern trilogy plus Solo and the first part of Rogue One is garbage.

But unlike the new Nines line this isn´t ruin the scene that much.

I dont know how to feel about new music - Dinner and Ocean House. For dinner it seems too loud and hard. Ocean House - I always loved atmospheric music after you left it. Maybe lowering volume would help.

But I love music in warehouse and smoke shop. Nice!

I like new little additions in Ocean House, that place is still scary. After many years and still I am scared of it. And nice change about Downtown, its now more open.

I am doing now Library quest, I am on the pier but there is no note anywhere? Where it supoppose to be?

Other notes:

Books are not sellable?

In Grout mansion, what is second candle puzzle do? (Room with electricity is opened by bookshelf right?)

When talking with Chuck after Grout mission, he doesnt talk to himself about burgers, and I think other lines are missing.

For what is licence from Grouts maze room?

The muttering is quit enough, you can't understand what he is saying and I disabled the subtitles exactly because the focus is on LaCroix's speech.

I really love new backstory and location! One thing - in library no doors have knobs on them. You are preatty consistent with them. ;)

And other thing - when I use Dementation on other vampires in combat, they got blue effect on them like from domination, is it bug?

I have a question and it is kind of irrelevant..

You know the Red Spot shop in Hollywood hub? It is an extremely small map with only a single NPC in it. Would it no be possible to merge that level with Hollywood hub and give it real windows? I imagine it wouldn't cause a huge performance issue and it would look amazing.

This isn't a request or anything, I am just asking if it is possible. (And if it is possible, would that be in the scope of this patch? :D )

That would depend on whether the whole Hollywood map can be decompiled and recompiled without errors in the first place. And no, this would not fit to the patch in it's current form!

Well, I would argue it would fit in perfectly with plus patch, as it would be a great improvement (phenomenal even), but it is a moot point since it is not yet certain if it is really possible and no one would really bother doing it.

Still though, it would have been amazing.

I see your point, but there isn't a lot of maps where this is feasible and not all of them is this obvious. Honestly I can only think of three little maps where something like this would be actually necessary. (Where interior should be visible from outside.)

I would even argue Troika probably intended something similar and couldn't really do it at the time. Just look at the Venture Tower, interior is visible from outside, which isn't the case anywhere else.

Hi. I've had this ongoing issue for a while with various 10.x unofficial patches (plus version). I'm currently on 10.5.4 and it continues. Early on in Santa Monica after first meeting Mercurio and searching for pain relief for him I enter the medical clinic. Upon leaving, the npcs who were previously wandering around (e.g. the guy urinating in the alleyway at the side of the Asylum) start bunching up, in particular around the left hand side of the door to the Asylum. It seems to be linked to entering and leaving the medical centre. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this? Cheers.

MisterEnnui you might consider completely uninstalling the game, deleting the folder (remnants can be left in the Steam version) and your Savegames.
Then reinstalling, starting the game once before trying to reinstall BUP.

You should make the final patch a nice flat number like 11 or something. :)

There are still quite a few things we can improve, but we are restricted by the tools we have anyway, so I am sure the final version is not so far :)
