There are a few problems with certain games that conflict with Windows XP and restrict you to 512MB of RAM for some bizarre reason

I haven't had any major issues playing Bloodlines on a Win 8 system, save for a few crashes. I've had more of an issue with Oblivion, since the game does not like alt-tabbing, and that is likely to be what some of the system messages force the game to do(although a mod I have seems to avoid that problem).

I think the only thing I did for Bloodlines, tweak wise anyway, was to set the Compatibility mode to WinXP SP3.

You use compatibility settings? I've never used 'em. I have Windows 7 64-bit and rarely have any problems... most are performance-related (I've modified some cfg files to cope).

I'm not sure if it is needed, since I think it was the case that when I installed it, I tried to run it without the patch - which didn't work without using the compatibility mode. With the patch, I'm not sure if it is needed, but I have not had any notable issues. Perhaps a small bit of lag with the FP discipline overlay effects(and a bit with TFN's shade boss), but not that bad.

Yeah I had a helluva lot of lag with TFN's shade boss (who used to be blood), at least the first time I encountered it. For some reason it wasn't so bad the playthrough after that one; maybe I forgot to edit some cfg files at first, I dunno.

Windows 8.1 was more like a fix or a patch, not an entirely new OS. Microsoft also released Windows 8.1 Update 1 to fix what was wrong (that's probably everything) with the previous update.
They failed with most products released lately, so maybe this is indeed the end of the line for Microsoft.
Yes, 8.1 and Update 1 are basically the same as the Service Packs for the prior Windows releases.

8 had some serious issues, but most of them were related to the UI. 9 is bringing back the Start Menu in a form almost identical to the Vista/7 version and making everything doable from the desktop mode. It will also boot directly to desktop mode if a keyboard is installed. Whether or not it will be worth it to upgrade from 7 is still up in the air, but it should be significantly better than 8 was.
Good night, forum. Good work. Sleep well. I'll most likely kill you in the morning.

What you want to do is hear part of it in one location, and then the next part in another... without missing anything. Yeah that's realistic. :justabite:
I've never asked for anything this silly.

Thank you, the rest of you.  I tried reinstalling Win XP on another partition, but my bios isn't compatible, and I am not motivated enough to deal with that.  I'll update the curious ones when I restart the game with Win XP in compatibility from the start.  For now, I am in Hollywood already, so restarting will need to wait.
