G.Extra_Lines
« on: April 22, 2020, 02:37:33 pm »
Good evening, Cainites.

I recently stumbled upon the fan-made patches and decided to give Bloodlines another go after fifteen years or so. I must say, the amount of effort put into them is amazing. I'm currently trying out the Unofficial Patch, and it makes an astounding difference.

I tried the Plus version first, and now playing with the basic version. I've noticed that the basic version have several dialogue lines cut. So I sniffed around a bit, found the text files, discovered that there's some kind of...variable? called G.Extra_Lines and that it must have a value of 1 in order for those lines to appear.

Now, I'm hopeless when it comes to technical stuff, but I've also found out that the game has a "console" where you can put in code, and when I put in "G.Extra_Lines = 1", lo and behold, the dummied out lines are restored, and I can ask Kilpatrick about The Asylum once again. Until I step out the door, that is, at which point the variable is set to 0 again, and I have to reset it back to 1 every time an area transition happens.

My question is, is there a way to permanently set it to 1 with the basic patch? Maybe adding a line to one of those cfg files or something? Google didn't help. It's my first day on this site, and while I did use the Search function before creating this thread, I apologize if the question has been answered elsewhere and I have missed it.

Thanks in advance.

You'll have to edit vamputil.py. The file is located in /unofficial_patch/python and can be edited with any text editor.
Somewhere near the top you find the function def setBasic(): where G.Extra_Lines is set to 0. Change this to 1.
This will restore some but not all of the additional dialog lines. But the rest is controlled by G.Patch_Plus, and setting that to 1 will also activate map changes and emails etc. for the plus patch.

Thank you! I wasn't expecting to get a response so swiftly.

Found another little surprise in there in the form of Jack_Extra, as well, which I suspect will let me ask Jack about the little incident on my way to Downtown LA. Thanks again.
