No voice for doomsday guy
« on: March 31, 2020, 09:35:48 PM »
So I"m running unofficial patch 10.5 and the voice of "The End is Here" sign guy in Santa Monica, is silent. Is this an intentional change? It's been so long since I installed the patch I forget if perhaps this was an optional feature I turned on.

PS: I posted this originally in general. That is my bad for not carefully reading the subtext.

Oops, and I forgot to answer. The doom guy will sometimes stop shouting, but we haven't found the reason yet...

Ah, a pity. One of my favorite voice actors in a game with the greatest voice acting of all time. He has never spoken in my game :(

Then there is something wrong and you should move around him a bit. There are invisible triggers that make him speak!

I've found out that it may have to do with starting something in the area. Like, attacking someone or scaring them away by letting them see you drain someone dry. Apparently it's not just the doomsayer; it cancels most other ambient dialogue as well. Alert a thug even slightly in the warehouse, for instance - you'll never be able to trigger any conversation between them.

This is done on purpose, but I am not aware of a similar reaction of the doomsayer. I will check this out...

Try entering any new map while he is walking.

Reason for edit: Better method, 100% effective.

Try running past him and entering Arthur's place while he is delivering a line of dialogue.
I tried this now multiple times, but only got one situation in which he became silent. Sadly without a console error to give me a hint on what happened! In all other cases he just continued...

Aw, that's a bummer. I'm a sucker for idle banter. Oh, well...

Well that is a valuable piece of information. On my game pc I only failed to get him stuck one time in many tries so it is some sort of race condition.

Knowing this I copied my VTMB install from my 2008 vintage game pc to my 2018 Win 10 pc and got the same results as you did, many tries and only one success. So more clues but still no root cause, but it will likely be a nasty bug to fix if experience is any indicator!

I just finished Santa Monica on a new playthrough and the doomsayer just stood there all the time. Didn't even move.

Did you do anything special? Because I have no idea...

A few changes to vamputil and the disciplinetgt files, but nothing that would interfere with the map triggers. I have no idea either. I have looked into the map entities after posting and found nothing that might cause the problem. And all the other npcs were walking as usual.
