Installation Issues, PLEASE help!
« on: April 07, 2011, 04:21:31 am »
So I recently bought a direct download version of the game Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines for my laptop. The game is not supported by my Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OS, but an application came with it to install a 64 bit compatibility thing to make it possible for the game installer to run on a 64 bit OS. At first I was ecstatic to find this since I've spent literally the entire day trying to get this thing to run, and hadn't noticed this simple fix. Unfortunately when I tried to install this 64 bit thing, a dialogue box came up saying "Vampire - The Masquerade Bloodlines.msi file not found, or file access error".

I tried to avoid using the 64 bit installer and using another method to trick the program into working by changing the compatibility mode on the setup.exe file for the game, but it wouldn't let me change that. I tried running as administrator, didn't work. I downloaded the unofficial 7.3 patch, nothing. The game won't even install for me to uninstall it and try again, I click "next" at the setup box, then another box appears and reminds me that the game is not supported under a 64 bit OS.

It seems that this 64 bit installer is my only options, but until I find out what and where these msi files are so I can figure something out, it looks like I'm screwed. I'm not that much of a tech savvy person when it comes to this, this whole day I've been winging it, on and off message boards, trying to figure it out, but nothing has worked.

Retail version of the game with unofficial patch 7.3 works perfectly on my Win 7 64.

Where did you download it from exactly? Was it direct2drive?

".MSI" files are Microsoft Installer files as far as i know. Right-clicking on Bloodlines.msi should give you an "install" option. I'm just guessing here. Retail version doesn't have any .MSI files. Take note of the path where the game installs (in my case it's: C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Vampire - Bloodlines) and apply the unofficial patch there.

Seconded, although I'm still using the 7.0 patch.  Just installed the game on Tuesday.  Vanilla install wouldn't launch, but once I applied the patch it worked fine.  Moved in my old save games and resumed playing where I'd left off.

Hope this helps.

Be careful with old save files. If it's not for the same version of the patch, it usually leads to any kind of weird behaviour, up to and including CTDs.
