console freakout
« on: October 29, 2018, 03:00:50 AM »

Hello.
Some of you old timers might remember me from the original PV. Nice to be back.

Although I originaly had the game on CD, my current copy is one I DL'd from GOG.
I am using the official patch if that matters.

I've been trying to help a friend through the game and tried to go to the Dane using the following command and parameters:
changelevel2 la_dane_1

All that happens is  the game locks and crashes,  telling me to insert my cd(?), but
I've looked in my game directory and all the .bsp files are in there.

Any help is apprecieted.

Hmm, usually map changing cheats resets game progresses and the characher sheet (even picking a random clan and gender). Try instead other cheats like "god" (immortality) and "sv_runscale 4" (superspeed). Once you are at the Dane turn them off with "god" again and "sv_runscale 1".

Use the map command instead. Of course that means the game will create a new character of the last used clan on the map, but I think on the Dane there is no need for a certain story state or something. Seems the changelevel commands are halflife and don't work for bloodlines.

There's a way to change the map WITHOUT losing your progresses?

Yes, you can open the map file *.bsp with text editor (I use Notepad++, not usual Windows notepad due to it can become unresponsive) and search for word "landmark". When you find such string

"targetname" "dane_mark"

you can take the landmark name and write in console such command:

changelevel2 map name (this is map file name) landmark (from the map file)

I tried this now but the game crashes:

changelevel2 la_dane_1 dane_mark

Sometimes such thing worked for me sometimes there were crashes. It depends on game/patch version too. So +1 to Malkav post.

Thanks for the replies, guys.
Odd, I've used the command before and it worked fine.

@Barabbah - "There's a way to change the map WITHOUT losing your progresses?"
That's why I used changelevel2. No loss of progress or stats.

Thanks again.

I never used this myself, but I would guess that you get crashes when you jump into a map from a wrong starting map.

Before your patch, this was sort of a workaround for the SOL crash.

BTW, I was watching a Twitchtv stream of VTMB last night and, for the first time, saw your restored
content for Grouts mansion.  Great job!
