Adding custom sounds
« on: December 01, 2018, 03:41:05 PM »
So I've started experimenting with creating/altering discipline powers. I've come into a bit of a pump, I wanted to add a custom sound. So I found the sounds I wanted, downloaded it and converted it to the correct format (wav). I changed the sound location in notepad. The sound won't play and I don't know why. The sound plays fine outside of the game (note I only played it outside the game after it didn't work initially.

   Effect_Src_Hit
   {
      SoundFX
      {
         "Sound"      "Disciplines/Dementation/whispers.wav"
      }
   }

Update: I have much bigger problems. I've somehow managed to replace the powers of Dementation 3-5 with Dominate powers. I don't know what happened but I can't fix it. I tried replacing the codes for those back to the UP+ versions but that didn't help.

Second power is meant to have a custom sound. Other than that, the Second power and the first power work correctly.

The main problem is the others have some how transformed into Dominate powers. I haven't even finished modifying the other powers. I've actually restored the UP+ versions of the other powers but that does no good.

Not that anyone is paying any attention to this thread but my main problem has been sorted. Only the sound issue now remains.

I can only imagine that you didn't choose the right format. What happens if you rename the old sound and play it at the time?

I was thinking about a quick and dirty new clans mod. Apart form changing names and descriptions, switching disciplines and hopefully the minimum possible (the basic idea is to keep simpler as possible), the mayor changes are:
Brujah -> True Brujah (if possible expand celerity to something resembling more temporis)
Gangrel -> City Gangrels (nothing else)
Malkavs -> Daughters of Cacophony (change dementation particles to a sound style)
Nossies -> Harbingers of Skull (give them thaumaturgy and change the particles to a necromantic style)
Torries -> Ravnos (give them dominate and change the particles to illusions style)
Tremere -> removed at all
Ventrues -> removed at all

Oh and on another note, is there a way to stop npcs affected by disciplines from saying their normal 'close by' dialogue? It kinda ruins the effect I am going for.

Only now I managed to look at the video. Nice HUD!! Each clan has his own version? Since you're obviously using a malk and on top of the health bar there is the malk logo I thought that what you did: torries has the rose on the top ecc ecc.

I don't know hot to fix that problem of "close by" dialogs, sorry. I only can tell you to try the cheat "blood 100" to have infinite blood instead of having to spawn an elder vitae each time you need to drink :P

Thanks. The HUD isn't finished, though I don't know how to alternate the HUD depending on Clan. The Malk symbol is at the top for ascetic and spacial reasons, same reason the Tremere symbol is the weapon background.

I've started changing the Discipline images too.

Cool that's really useful for testing, thanks.

....

As for the particle changes you are considering, it should be interesting to see and at very least might be useful for other modders.

Malkavs -> Daughters of Cacophony (change dementation particles to a sound style)
Ventrues -> removed at all
I consider the latter more fitting since the Daughters are rebranded Ventrue (in a loud whisper: they are, in fact, Ventrue) in essence. They aren't supposed to have wacky dialogues with a stop sign and such.

The point is I've "found" two extra clans to add, and the mad slot must be took by someone....

Here's my draft:
brujah     -> thin bloods (?)
gangrel    -> city gangrel (Animalism, Obfuscate and Protean)*
malks      -> Daughters (Dementation Melpominee, Fortitude and Presence)
nossie     -> Harbingers (Auspex, Fortitude and Thaumaturgy Necromancy)
torrie      -> Ravnos (Animalism, Dominate Chimerstry and Fortitude)
tremere   -> True Brujah (Celerity Temporis, Potence and Presence)
ventrue   -> daywalkers (?)°

* I know they have Celerity and not Animalism, but their ancestors Greek Gangrels had those exact disciplines so whatever. Should instead be Greek Gangrels?

° I'm thinking about him:

If you have any better ideas for those two "clans" consider those are the possible disciplines:
Animalism, Auspex, Temporis, Melpominee, Chimerstry, Fortitude, Obfuscate, Potence, Presence, Protean, Necromancy

Greek Gangrel are the origin of the modern offshoot known as "City Gangrel" or "Coyotes" (Celerity, Obfuscate, Protean). They're usually Sabbat but I can see an argument for having them as Camarilla or Anarch.
