  •                 The first problem was when I started playing the game on my new machine (with a widescreen 1920x1080 monitor, thank you). First time I booted the game to test, no problem. Every time afterwards, though, the 4:3 screen would be stretched to fill the whole space (an issue I've had to suffer through on my laptop and its 1280x800 16:10 display), something that's never happened before on this machine (since unlike the aforementioned laptop, I was able to set the graphics card to maintain the proper aspect ratio).
Baffled as to why in God's name VTMB would be able to override my precious "keep the damn aspect ratio!" setting, I resorted to drastic measures, and by that I mean the fanmade resolution patch. Worked like a charm: the game now runs in full 1920x1080. But now there's a different problem.
I'm well aware that any proper game engine knows how to cull objects that aren't visible: if the player can't see it, why waste precious cycles rendering it? It seems, however, that this resolution patch has rendered VTMB's culling systems a bit...overzealous. Things are vanishing at the top and bottom of the screen. Any object close enough to my view that edges outside of a certain vertical window pops out, and I do mean pops. It's not a minor thing, either. I've had the ground I'm walking on disappear inexplicably, as well as ceilings.
     So. Does anyone...
     1. know how to solve the Mystery of the Mysterious Vanishing Objects?
     or alternately...
     2. make VTMB obey the "keep the freakin' 4:3 aspect ratio even on a 16:9 display" setting so I don't have to use the resolution patch in the first place? I know vampires play by their own rules, but this is bleeping ridiculous...
