I think it's hardcoded....

Perhaps if you created a script that activated via the death of every npc, got their model and created a ragdoll of that in their location at the same time models typically despawn?
Downsides are that you'll have to add this script to literally every npc with an OnDeath condition in Hammer, and that you might have temporary extra corpses before the real McCoys despawn.
Possible upside is that you could make the Ragdolls activating objects for Necromancy, which ultimately results in getting the ragdoll's model and using that model for a zombie...

I added some ragdolls in place of characters killed during cutscenes because it was so obvious then that no corpses were left. This showed two problems though: 1) the ragdolls often did not fall like the original corpses did, and 2) the player has a hard-time moving over the ragdolls which is very annoying!

I noticed that kills with Vision of Death Discipline cause NPC combatants to take longer to despawn. Maybe something can be done there?

Maybe you can make those ragdolls not solid...

I couldn't work out to do that when I added the Muddy corpse. It would help a lot if this was possible!

What if you used prop_dynamic with "non solid" flag instead of prop_ragdoll?

Then you would get a NPC in a typical T-pose.

Hm, since crucifiction is not the usual cause of death in bloodlines this won't work...

Wait, really? How?
