Replacing a discipline through History.
« on: September 11, 2020, 07:33:07 am »
First of all, I'm new to the game, and here on the forum. It's an old game, but I fell in love with it.
I'm looking to add more spice in my builds, so I was going through the files trying to mod it on my own, but as I go, bunch of problems pop up.

I created a new History that's specific to Tremere.
In the clandoc000.txt file I added "Potence" "1"  in the disciplines section.

Now in the traiteffects000.txt file I'm trying to add Potence discipline to my Tremere History called "Battlemage".
I can add it just fine, but the problems start when you select another History, the +1's add up and overlap, and you're forced to select a new clan to "reset".

Code: [Select]
"Trait" "Potence"
"Modifier" "+2"

I tried removing all Disciplines in the Tremere section of the file by using -2 modifier, and then add them by using +2 in every History individually, but it's not working. It's similar issue like when you spend points, and select another History, and you have extra points to spend.

Is there a way to make this work without adding bunch of issues on top of the game?
I would've just created a new clan, but a copy of Tremere doesn't look good on character creation xD.

I think this is a kind of hard-coded bug with character creation, I never could find a way to fix the surplus points issue!

Yes, the only way to avoid this problem is to switch to another clan before selecting a history that doesn't have the new discipline.
The same thing happens if you have opened the stats page with a standard history and then decide to use the history with the changed disciplines. You also have to go to another clan first.
Probably caused by the same bug that lets you collect attribute and skill points if you switch to another history without resetting first.
