Removing skirt from model?
« on: March 30, 2019, 11:21:41 AM »
How would I go about removing the skirt (like Jeanette or the female Malk) or the glasses(like Therese or the female Tremere) from a model? Can it be done by editing a texture, or do I need to edit the model with Blender?

Blender or any model editing is not needed

Simply extract the texture files, open the .vmt file with notepad. Add a line before the last "}" and add "nodraw" "1". The end of the file should look like this:

Code: [Select]
"$nodraw" "1"
}

If this doesn't work convert the tth/ttz texture to tga (or dds, depending on the tool you're using), open it with Gimp or your favourite photo editing program (like Gimp). Delete everything (you must make an empty transparent image, not a completely white image), save it, convert it back and add those lines on the vmt file:

Code: [Select]
"$translucent" "1"
"$alphatest" "1"
"$nocull" "1"

I don't remember which actually do the trick but it didn't matter. The important thing is to not forget the "}" at the end of the file. And also important is to make sure the files has the same directory paths it has in the archives (and in the vmt file in the "$basetexture" section)

Thanks a lot! I'll give this a try with Therese's glasses and Jeanette's skirt.

The skirt for the Malkavian female is part of the rest of the body, so this won't work for that model, will it?

No. You can still do it, but I believe someone tried it before and it leaves an ugly gap. Sadly this method is a bit hit or miss, sometimes it works quite nicely, other times it doesn't.

And editing the model with blender in this way won't help you either, because you cannot add any vertices to or remove them from a model; it inevitably breaks in-game.

And strange moons circle through the skies,
But stranger still is
Lost Carcosa.

Exactly. Some skirted models have badly textured areas under these or have weird legs. To hide parts of a texture and making that area invisible (for, as an example, removing the male malk 4rt armor hat) there are other topics covering that. I haven't now the time to find them, if you cannot find any now I'll found one as soon as I can.

There is another problem if you just make the textures transparent: for creating shadows the model is used, not the textures. So if you e.g. give the female Tremere a short skirt by making most of the skirt texture transparent she still casts a shadow with the long skirt.

You can just put the glasses inside the head in Blender for permanent results. Ignore Caine but added him to attachment anyway.

Jeanette no skirt. You can scale it to its smallest form and move it well below here feet. Placing it in the body doesn't work. Provided as is, but looked fine when first interacting with her in Asylum and a quick run about Santa Monica as a PC Character.

Edit: Just did all the tremere female glasses models then went for a Mooch on moddb and I had already done the tremere in 2k9 lol. I didn't even know it was on that site

It's possible to add an hat like this to Nines?

I really want to add that '30 touch to him (obviously avoiding making him an hipster)....

I reckon it's possible, but to fully realise it. it would take good texturing to pull it off. The top of his head could be shaped closely from what I can see.

I seen on that mod db a comment about feather on armor 3 wanting removed so

EDIT:Removed attachment for the moment. Funky stuff going on wielding weaponry.
