Questions about create scenes in Bloodlines
« on: March 09, 2020, 07:54:09 PM »

Hello to all!
I know that creating scenes in Bloodlines is very difficult, but nevertheless, I would like to ask those who know here if it is possible to create one, at first glance, simple idea...
So, I've a character who is supposed to shoot another, but since these characters won't be voiced, the intended actions'll be something like this:

1) Character 'A' runs into the room and shoots character 'B', in the dialogue window he allegedly says to his opponent: "Ah, you brainless traitor, how could you betray our brothers?"
What any-phrase for player or simply '...'

2) Then, follows the deathbed replica of character 'B' and his death...

Perhaps it would be better to do this in the form of a short animation and the subsequent continuation of the dialogue between the character 'A' and the player, but now I'm just interested in the fact of the possible implementation of all this.
For me, this is very important, because if this action can't be reproduced, then I'll have to say goodbye to the nonlinearity of my quest...  :/

This is perfectly possible, but not easy. It all depends on how clean you want your scene to look. If you want it go for the most professional version possible, you'll have to put in every little detail yourself like muzzle flashes and even the gun.

I imagined it as a scene at a distance, i.e. without the effects of camera zoom and other things. One character shoots another and that's it. For example, as Johnny shoots the protagonist, only here one of the characters dies. But I've no idea how to do it.
Can I do this via Hammer, or I'll have to create it in a different editor?
Tell me, please about this =)

I see. Technically this isn't too hard to achieve, but there are some things you'll have to look out for. If you don't use cameras the player might be able to interfere with the scene, i.e. by shooting at one of the NPCs.
For a quick and easy solution you could make NPC A hate NPC B, so A will shoot B. Then you'd have to detect when B gets hurt and force B to take extra damage. This is not a safe way to do it, though. It depends on the circumstances of the scene. As I said, the PC might be able to interfere.
If you want to be safe you'll have to put in the work and use scripted sequences. In that case, you'll have to place a fake gun in A's hand and add the muzzle flash and the sound effects yourself.

You can totally do this in Hammer. In fact, I think it's best to do this in Hammer.

Thanks! And a few more questions:
1) Can I 'freeze' a player for the duration of the scene?
2) I'm new to this , so I would like more information about working in the Hammer... so, I've 2 characters. What do I need to find /prescribe to create this scene?

And thanks for your time!

You can freeze the player using a "player controller" you can see them on hammer map...unpack a map with a scene, (for example, santa monica, when you reach main street, you can see mercirio scene) find a scene trigger and check how it works.

If you want to learn more about Hammer in general I recommend watching the video tutorials by TopHATTwaffle and 3kliksphilip. When it comes to learning about Bloodlines mapping specifically the best thing you can look at examples on Troika's maps, like argikt said.
Good luck!

Hello to all!

I found some videos about "scripted_sequence", but I couldn't find the right entities, so maybe somebody can tell me: is there a similar method for Bloodlines?

The method is the same.
Bloodlines has several animations programmed, that you can select in the method (like interesting places), if you're a hardcoder, you can create your owns. Never tried.

Also you can chain several animations, this is like more animations work in the game.

Do you mean you couldn't find the the scripted_sequence entity? It should be in the entity list. If it's not there, there's a problem with your SDK.

No, I couldn't find the ai_relationship entity or something similar to set up the NPC's hostility...

I think you want SetRelationship() function. Have a look at ch_dragon_1 map for examples, they will look like:

"OnDamaged" "Zygaena,SetRelationship,player D_HT 5,0,-1,,"

So you need some trigger to send input to your NPC you want to make hostile, OnDalogEnd, OnMapLoad, OnClose, OnFullyOpen, etc. Also the Mod Guide by Dheu will give information on SetRelationship() and other useful things for making scenes.

Thanks a lot, however, I was looking for a way to do this via a Hummer, without using a Python. =)
I needed the first NPC to shoot the other one. And many thanks to Argikt for creating this scene for me. I hope he can share with me the secret of creating such moments, since I couldn't find a detailed guide anywhere...
