Possible to bind other keys to disciplines?
« on: December 12, 2013, 07:42:51 am »
I think this might've been answered on the old site. Anyone know if this is possible? I ask this because I play with the arrow keys instead of wasd, so using numbers 1-9 in the heat of battle is, well, not pretty

If not, it's cool, but I was just wondering because I could've sworn I used to play with specific keys to a few disciplines.

Actually it's quite simple. The only problem with binding disciplines directly to a certain key only works correct for passive disciplines like Auspex.
But you can easily either bind the hotkeys directly to a specific key, or even make the hotkey setting selectable in the keyboard options menue.

For directly binding hotkeys, edit autoexec.cfg, config.cfg, or user.cfg in the -bloodlines\vampire\cfg\ subdirectory
For the hotkeys on the NUM-block, it looks like this:
Code: [Select]
bind "KP_HOME" "vhotkey #7"
bind "KP_UPARROW" "vhotkey #8"
bind "KP_PGUP" "vhotkey #9"
bind "KP_LEFTARROW" "vhotkey #4"
bind "KP_5" "vhotkey #5"
bind "KP_RIGHTARROW" "vhotkey #6"
bind "KP_END" "vhotkey #1"
bind "KP_DOWNARROW" "vhotkey #2"
bind "KP_PGDN" "vhotkey #3"
bind "KP_INS" "vhotkey #10"

For hotkeys settable via the keyboard options you have to edit -bloodlines\vampire\scripts\kb_act.txt and add these lines wherever you want.
Code: [Select]
"vhotkey #1" "Hotkey 1"
"vhotkey #2" "Hotkey 2"
"vhotkey #3" "Hotkey 3"
"vhotkey #4" "Hotkey 4"
"vhotkey #5" "Hotkey 5"
"vhotkey #6" "Hotkey 6"
"vhotkey #7" "Hotkey 7"
"vhotkey #8" "Hotkey 8"
"vhotkey #9" "Hotkey 9"
"vhotkey #10" "Hotkey 10"

Thank you so much, Malkav! I am going to try this out later when I get home. I wasn't expecting much luck because when I did a search for this issue, it seemed like most people did not think it was possible, and one person that seemed to have a fix gave a broken link. Don't you hate it when that happens? I would paste that thread, but last time I tried, I got a message saying that I could not post links. Thanks again and also thank you for Camarilla Edition! I am really enjoying playing with the decreasing blood. I feel more thirsty, often looking for people to feed on, like a real vampire! lol so cool

If you say

bind "KP_PGDN" "vhotkey #3; wait 1; vdiscipline_last"

Then when you press KP_PGDN, it will not only switch to hotkey slot #3, but it will automatically activate that discipline as well, with a single motion.

Of course this will work. The only problem is, if you use hotkey 3 for a weapon or bloodpack with another character and you forget to remove the binding, you'll start trowing around random disciplines whenever you use hotkey 3...
Not good if a Tremere uses this hotkey for equipping a gun in a masquerade area and then throws bloodboil at some random person. :shitfan:
