Title: My skins!!
Post by: Viatrixa on January 31, 2019, 11:25:07 pm
I wasn't really sure weather I should make a new topic or post in my old one, but since this particular question is different, I figured hell, lets just make a new topic. (Feel free to tell me off if this was a bad move, though)

Just what the question says - is there a way to spawn npcs at all in game? I recall there being a command like that in the console, but it wasn't functional. My intention is to have quick access to the NPCs so I can see them directly in game and see how their skins / any alterations look like. So far I've just teleported myself using the "map" command and just no clipping to the npc, but I can't for example do this with say, Heather (who isn't ghouled at the very beginning so I can't cycle through her costume options yet) or with Tourette who only appears after that one quest line is completed.  :chinscratch:

If I were you, I would install the "skin changer", you can find it in the moddb.
You can change PC skin to almost every NPC in the game just clicking a buttoon.

Never seen this skin changer. But then I haven't looked for bloodlines mods in ages, especially not on ModDB...

If that doesn't work you can always use the SetModel command. Either use picker to find the name of an npc on the map or use the command on the player.
Then use the console to enter the command. You need either
char =  Find("npcname") or char = __main__.FindPlayer()
and then either way
char.SetModel("models/character/npc/unique/Santa_Monica/Heather/Heather_goth.mdl")
or whichever model you want to see...

Both things are certainly worth checking out, thank you!

This is the only "skin changer" mod I could found on moddb but I really doubt it can work....

I was speaking of https://www.nexusmods.com/vampirebloodlines/mods/25 (https://www.nexusmods.com/vampirebloodlines/mods/25)
That essencially did the commands that malkav posted, but pressing a button

Ok - I didn't wanna make a new thread again so I just re-named this one and decided that I'll stick my re-skins here.

This one pays homage to this particular skin: https://www.moddb.com/games/vampire-the-masquerade-bloodlines/addons/bradstreet-janette (https://www.moddb.com/games/vampire-the-masquerade-bloodlines/addons/bradstreet-janette)
I looked at how this one was made and decided to simply make my own version of it, which maintains Jeanette's vanilla face and her deathly vampiric pallor. It entailed removing her default school girl socks, painting in that gap (with her skin), making my own garter belt and stockings with my own fishnet pattern, changing the color of her panties, drawing a new curving strap for them, and putting that ever so important kitty picture there. (my husband took one look and went "hurr durr, hurr, oh I get it, haha it's a... "kitty")

I don't know why I did all this because in my games she still wears her skirt - I frankly only removed it to show this very important and totally super mega original lingerie mod for her.

(https://i.imgur.com/ByjMseb.png)
(https://i.imgur.com/IQhrwWF.png)

Aaaand... I also messed with her boots to make them look edgier.  :rock: Please note that this is not supposed to be special, unique, or original in any way at all. It's the first time I've ever made my "own"  Bloodlines skin and I just thought I'd start off with something easy. Credit for the inspiration goes to the person who made the skin I linked earlier.

Now I'm gonna fiddle with the malkavian female pc.  :justabite:

Oh, I like that!  :vampwink: Totally something she would wear, down to the addition of the "kitty".  I think it's worth keeping even with the skirt on, just for the fun of it, not that the PC would normally be looking under her skirt  :rofl: One could imagine she unveils this during that "special sexy time" she rewards the player with for helping her.

Awesome boots, too.  :rock: Now I'm really looking forward to your work on the lady malk.

Don't ask me why, but the kitty panties made me though of this:

However, nice work :)

Before I noticed you mentioned the Bradstreet Jeanette skin directly inspiring you, I thought this was a great take on the same concept (especially as you're keeping Jeanette's usual pallor). The fishnets and garter belt look great, and I like her piercing jewelry and the detail on the boots.

If you have the model viewer from the SDK, you can load up the model with the textures immediately, in a completely separate work folder, even. Before that, I used to keep a save game or two handy, but it's a lot easier with the viewer.

Oh geez, I'm floored that you'd ask me to share it ;_; I honestly didn't expect that. I uploaded it to moddb here: https://www.moddb.com/games/vampire-the-masquerade-bloodlines/addons/herekittykitty (https://www.moddb.com/games/vampire-the-masquerade-bloodlines/addons/herekittykitty)

Yeah I keep a bunch of save games mostly in front of npcs so I can view them directly in their "natural habitat"  :smile: but the viewer is an awesome tool too!

Now to skin the malk lady.  :chinscratch: Darn those boots are tricky.

Really like it, absolutely in-character and goth in contrast with her original outfit that only has a goth-like make-up, otherwise more resembles a naughty high school girl from a porn movie.

Whoops, was under the impression you needed suggestions! Yep, it's one of my favorite tools. I can't believe I used to mod without it.

Would you mind re-uploading it, Viatrixa? I'd like to try it, but I can't open it, though I've downloaded it a few times. If anyone else had trouble with the file initially, how'd it work out? I can open my other .rar files just fine.

One could look at the Bloodlines modding community and say the last thing we need is more reskins of the female Malk, Jeanette, and Heather, but I always want to see more! :rofl: The UV mapping on the fem Malk is such a headache. Good luck!
Title: Re: My skins!!
Post by: deicide on February 05, 2019, 03:25:39 am
Worked for me, extracted fine, a test in Winrar (v5.61) yields no errors. However, file names are blue, which means they have an "NTFS compressed" attribute set. Probably, the culprit is this? The other possible reason, this is a RAR 5.0 format archive, not 4.0. Some third-party archivers do not support 5.0 yet.

Yeah, there's a ton of Jeanette reskins, but the most of them either simple original texture improvements or total overhauls, often not in Bloodlines style, while yours fits the narrow niche in-between, an attempt to re-implement the original idea in a better way.

 :smile:

I hope you got it to work! I just compressed them regularly with the rar tool - no clue if I should have ticked an option somewhere.

Sadly, I know there are all too many re-skins of the lady malk but for some reason I just enjoy playing through the game as her. I do admit the game did a very poor job of depicting malks, making them extremely fishy and just plain goofy at times; nothing wrong with a pinch of humour but... yeah. I play a malk in the tabletop campaign I'm in and she's actually a very sad character; that having said she has served our players with some funny moments.

If I manage to nail this skinning thing down I'll probably attempt to do something for the brujah gal as well, and perhaps the gangrel.

For now I wanna see if I can pull off a decent deathrocker look for the fem malk. (man I wish I could give her a big old deathawk!)

I did get it to work, yes! Jeanette's dead this playthrough (!!), so I'll have to interact with her my next game. :)

Oh, I hope it didn't seem like I was making fun of you. I meant it! I'm always excited for new skins of anything, and I've never found a Malkavian set I really like. The fem Malk is one of my top choices, too. I've even got a (silly) armor set planned for her myself. I'd like to see what you do for the Brujah and the Gangrel.

OH PLEASE DO!!! I'd love that! PM me if you'd like!  :smile:

@ vampire_nonsense Oh I didn't think that at all! I do agree there are generally too many malky reskins though. I guess liking the Malks in bloodlines is a bit like having a troublesome favorite child.  :chinscratch:

Edit: I have to mention it, I actually for some odd reason have a LOT of trouble with the malk's ponytail. I changed it's color and it kept giving me strange gaps between the strands of hair. Any suggestions how to fix this, other than to draw the gaps in?

Ha! Pretty accurate.

I was looking through the thread again and do you know how taken aback I was to realize you were using a couple other skins of mine (room divider and heartbed) in the Asylum apartment?  :rofl: My jaw literally dropped. I can't believe I didn't recognize my own stuff for so long.

It happens with the vanilla skin, too, right? It sounds like that one, which seems to be a problem with the model rather than the texture. Just loading up one solid color on the model shows the same gap.

YEAH! It's there on the vanilla skin too, there's a tear / gap in the middle of her ponytail in the back. Also the tips, which are currently giving me trouble. I'm trying to fix this just by drawing the gaps in and then maybe I can hopefully delete some of them and give the illusion of hair tips with transparency.

(https://i.imgur.com/3c68l2B.png)

In the actual skin .tga  where you see the "transparency" pattern, there is literally nothing (I deleted parts of the image with the alphachannel active on all layers)  - so why it's suddenly solid is confusing to me. All I did to the ponytail was colorize it. This didn't happen with her fringes for example. I cut them into shape and colored them, and it worked just fine. Trying to currently ghetto fix it just by drawing in the strands of her so the gaps are filled and then manually adding in some spaces to create the illusion of hair tips on a pony tail.

And hell yeah  :smile: I love little details in games so I love using better looking skins for say, the heartbead or divider. They look really good man!

Please post advice if you master this because I have an armor set planned and I don't know if I can cope with the damn hair, man. The first time around I tried to do a pointed fringe like Lydia Deetz's, which was a mess. Of course I've never gotten the hang of hair textures anyway...

OH DEAR LORD WHAT DID I DO????????????????????? Anyone have any ideas? I tried following the bump map tutorial to a T but even so this happened. The tutorial does instruct one to paint the parts black that you dont want shining and I did just that - so why is her entire head glossy as a toad's tongue? I must have made a wierd little mistake somewhere along the line but does anyone have any clue what this could have been? All I was trying to do is give some effects to her piercings and this happened :S  :facepalm:

 :vampsmile: vampire_nonsense has been a lovely wonderful all around awesome noodle and helped me fix the wierd glossyness. Basically painted on the wrong channel  :facepalm:

But, yeah, I've gotten the gloss & bumping to look quite decent.

(https://i.imgur.com/hRlAXJA.png)

It's just kind of subtle because the piercings are quite small and don't have a lot of surface area, but I think they look ok thus far? Now I should work on the actual body.

Looks awesome!  :rock: Really love the piercings on her ears!

Also...could you possibly share the tips for getting this to work? I am also getting the shiny model of doom...  :facepalm:
Basically what I think is happening is that it's merging all my layers so that the alpha channel is lost (and I have tried following the instructions to the letter...)

EDIT: Actually I managed to solve the shinyness...but now neither the bump nor the envmap are showing... :irritated:

EDIT #2: Nevermind, I got it! It just wasn't showing in the SDK...

SO! I'm -generally- quite content with my first skin for the malk gal. However, as expected, I ran into some trouble. Namely, her entire model seems to be transparent in places where it really shouldn't be.

(https://i.imgur.com/YG6f0xd.png)
(https://i.imgur.com/FcBhTRi.png)

The bump maps & spec seem to work fine, too! I did try removing the transparency from the VTF and this fixed it, but I want it to work due to an effect I added into her skirt (I gave her skirt some sticky outy straps  :vampsmile: ) basically I did this by removing a tiny bit of hem from her skirt and making the strap extend beyond it. Looks neat! This effect also worked properly before I added the bumps & shinies.

Any ideas how I could make this all work? I also tried "alphatest" which I've seen in some transparent skin bits but it didn't work either.

Post by: Ghanima_Atreides on March 02, 2019, 10:24:41 pm
I've had this problem too. Basically, the only way I could make it work was by removing the transparency and just leaving "alphatest" there. It's not as good - edges aren't as smooth etc. But proper transparency has always lead to these issues for me. Although you said you tried that so...I'm out of ideas. :/
Title: Re: My skins!!

Try also transparency+nocull and alphatest+nocull (although I suspect the former still will not work....)

WHOOPS! Spoke too soon. The alphatest seems to have fixed it. So HERE IT IS, my skin.

I worked way too hard on this. There were moments when I was literally painting pixels. I will absolutely make more skins for more armors but for now here's just the first one. I'm not sure weather I should share this publicly since I haven't done her other skins yet, and this one changes her skin tone drastically. I also still need to draw in the inventory picture of her clothing and edit her hands. ANYWAY! Here it is :)

BONUS points to who ever recognizes that band symbol on her back - you are into old school deathrock  :rock:

I would have really wanted to actually give her a proper fishnet shirt instead of just mesh, but it looked honest to god terrible so I just went with the mesh. Also if you're wondering about the bat panties, they actually exist so I have to link them here! https://www.etsy.com/listing/186834855/vampire-bat-bikini-batwing-goth-panties?ref=landingpage_similar_listing_top-3&frs=1 (https://www.etsy.com/listing/186834855/vampire-bat-bikini-batwing-goth-panties?ref=landingpage_similar_listing_top-3&frs=1)

AW thank you so much, I really worked hard on this!

I want to make more skins for her and I already have some ideas - including a cybergoth one. I also want to try giving her a deathawk (thanks to Barabbah for showing me how!! <3) But for now I just wanna take her for a test drive :)

The models of the female malkavian armors are pants off terrible though, so my options are limited. I could perhaps use the cowboy outfit and edit it into a cybergoth one if i can remove the hat maybe?

My possible future plans also include:
Giving venus awesome punkish pants.
Giving VV pants/ leggings (don't get me wrong, I have nothing against her glorious butt but it always annoyed me how she attends court wearing her stripper outfit. You can dress provocatively in a better manner!) That having said I wish there was a way to dress her especially for that scene and then just have her be in her usual outfit when you enter the club.
Fancy up Therese's outfit a bit.
Maybe do something with Lily?
Edge Damsel up a bit.
Maybe something with Skelter? I wouldn't know what though.
Something with the ladies of the evening? Make one look classy, the other trashy.

Lots of ideas! Only problem with me is that I'm ridiculously slow :/ this Malk skin took me a week or so to make.

My first mod (https://www.moddb.com/mods/incoming-untitled-project/addons/vv-jacket) was actually her dress for the court.
If you want to use an alternate less provoking outfit only on that sequence there are 2 solutions:
- edit the map file of the theatre
- rename the folder of the VV original model (if present) as VV1, place the new model in a new folder called VV and rename the files with the names of the original files (so the game will use the modded one as default), then once you started the game and saw the intro, whenever you turn off the game rename VV as VV2 and VV1 as VV (if present in the first place). Yes, I know, this method may look coarse and stupid, but it works and it's easy.

To get VV another dress at the court, you don't have to edit the map. It's easier to edit the script.
You need /python/theatre/theatre.py. The file is plain text so you can use notepad, but I'd suggest notepad++.
Open the file and search for this function near the top:
Code: [Select]
#THEATRE: Assigns models to the seat fillers during the courtroom scene
def fillSeats():
    pc = __main__.FindPlayer()
    gender = pc.IsMale()
    clan = pc.clan
Now you have to add the model switch for VV. I'll do it right at the beginning of the function but you can also add it at the end or where you like. Just be careful with the indentation.
The regular vv model path is "models/character/npc/unique/Downtown/VV/VV.mdl" In this example I will use "models/character/npc/unique/Downtown/VVsuit/VV.mdl" for the better dressed version.
Code: [Select]
#THEATRE: Assigns models to the seat fillers during the courtroom scene
def fillSeats():
    VV = Find("VV")
    VV.SetModel("models/character/npc/unique/Downtown/VVsuit/VV.mdl")
    pc = __main__.FindPlayer()
    gender = pc.IsMale()
    clan = pc.clan

I LOVE IT :D The layered fishnet stockings are my favorite. Makes up for those knobbly knees she has :)

BONUS points to who ever recognizes that band symbol on her back - you are into old school deathrock  :rock:

(CHRISTIAN DEATH [though I must admit I'm not really into them--I'm slow getting into some of the old school bands ^^;;])

Just in case you didn't notice,, the chaps have normals (meaning bumps) in the mesh, so they will be prominent unless the pants are quite dark, or you maybe incorporate them into some details. Some plans of mine were once thrown for a loop. :T

Quote
Giving VV pants/ leggings (don't get me wrong, I have nothing against her glorious butt but it always annoyed me how she attends court wearing her stripper outfit. You can dress provocatively in a better manner!) That having said I wish there was a way to dress her especially for that scene and then just have her be in her usual outfit when you enter the club.

I've always felt the same way, heh (thanks Malkav for that script!). If you want to keep the provocative look, 3Dell did a great alternate model of VV wearing a dress for her Vesuvius mod (https://forums.planetvampire.com/bloodlines-modding/vesuvius-mod/msg129831/#msg129831) (as well as some strippers/hostesses, actually). I haven't tried Barabbah's mod yet, but that VV in a jacket is a great look, too.

Quote
Maybe something with Skelter? I wouldn't know what though.

Most Skelter skins I've seen just give him a new t-shirt. I hope you do something with him :)

Lots of ideas! Only problem with me is that I'm ridiculously slow :/ this Malk skin took me a week or so to make.

oh yes...very slow..... a whole...week... :cry:

Rozz Williams was an interesting character for sure (https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0371/3021/products/rozz_poster.jpg?v=1454558355)

God damnit for those bumps in the cowboy outfit :/ *whimper* Seems I can't really use other than the 3rd armor and the 0 one.

A couple of the links in 3dell's thread are dead so I can't check them out :/

In that vesuvius pack there was, other than lots and lots of strippers (remodelled with high heeles shoes like these (https://www.fsjshoes.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/600x600/602f0fa2c1f0d1ba5e241f914e856ff9/r/e/red_stripper_heels_ankle_strap_patent_leather_stiletto_heel_sandals.jpg)), the new skirted VV model and several addictions to the map, there was also this new customer....

I love that skin, but imo it isn't LaCroix. I prefer him as the pretty smarmy babyface that he is!

This mod of him with the beard actually reminds me of my husband's Toreador!

(https://i.imgur.com/gZ8GbZK.jpg)

So, I could share my Malk skin if people want that, a friend I have really liked it. Only thing is I have a tiny issue. I made an inventory armor0 image to go with the skin - but no matter what I do, what format I save it into, it keeps actually loosing it's transparency in game. I tried converting it from .tga and both .png and both have the same issue.

(https://i.imgur.com/gFS8ovr.png)

As seen above the transparency really is there - but after I use the SDK to convert it and plop it in the right folder, the part that should be transparent is actually black. No clue why this keeps happening :/ it's as if somehow the conversion process does something to it. The vanilla inventory image is also of course, transparent.

The problem with LaCroix mod, that not even real beard (like above), but exactly as if he was too lazy to use a real razor, was reading BS men's magazines too much, or, alternatively, cosplays Dr. House.

Have you tried saving it as a .dds and working from that? That's the only way I can get transparency to work properly.

Well, my russian is a bit rusty (specially since I cannot read it) but from the link to her instagram I deduct she sells lingerie.
In any case, when you warned me on the content of the profile I was thinking hate speech, weird porn, gore violence or all together :P

Actually this ain't that bad. Ok avoiding following trends and similar shit, but neither refuse one single thing l you like only because is the latest trend.

I had the same problem, though I'm sorry to say I didn't solve it. I worked around it by basically pasting my screenshot under a cut out silhouette on the vanilla texture. (That's why one of the inventory icons in my Corp Goth set is messed up.)

Oh yeah, I also thought I'd share these. It's a map I made last year when I was the GM for our campaign. It's very loosely based on the museum basement in Bloodlines. I even made little map assets of some things and used them.

The platform we play on is roll20. I put the map together from pre-existing assets and some of my own! We also have an inside joke that if we have a map where we'll see a security guard, we always use an avatar of Chunk for one of them. (also before someone asks, those rainbow cones are only there to indicate the range of the cams for the players)

The only thing that she apparently buys whatever she sells, and I mean no underwear. That profile is so genuinely faux high class (in the most ruthless Russian way) it hurts.

As for a prince, I don't think it looks any cool or appropriate, trends or not. That one isn't even one of the latest, but since Russia lags a little in that respect... So, it creates an impression that there are no other reasons aside of the author who thinks that following trends is cool. Because of this, at first I did not even notice that suit is neat indeed.

Maybe you forgot the alpha with the TGA.

I save your picture,
put it in a paint program,
make a new TGA of the malk
put it also in the paint program,
copy your picture into the TGA,
position it,
save the TGA,
make a TTH with the SDK.

I make a picture in game with it. (since i play a Ventrue ATM , i change the name for the first armor for a Ventrue.)

Regarding 3Dell mods and unshaved LaCroix, when I had found her VK profile I actually got over my disgust and dropped her a message (though purposefully did not mention it here). She visits it daily a few times.
My initial impression of her was more than confirmed since she did not condescend to grace such a lowling as me with any reply in a few days since then. A thot (That Ho Over There) in American slang, and worse, a really snobbish one.
It's really laughable, a tasteless cock lure lingerie-maker who sells it dirt cheap by herself acting worse than a high class clothes designer. At least, the latter will reply if they did not employ an administrator and run an account by themselves.

Guess that Prince LaCroix reskin could be considered lost.

Well, that sucks. :/ But I rather doubt she still has the files anyway...Maybe I'm being stereotypical here, but she gives me the impression of someone who has left gaming behind...

Would it be considered indelicate of me if I recreated the suit? Because I like it. With credit for the original idea, of course.

I highly doubt that, a mock high class lifestyle is too boring to follow it literally for real, it's in part, a show. Some of her reskins like Malk VV are modelled after her own crap panties.

I guess you could do whatever you like without any credits, that suit is textured after some IRL couturier one, so she does not own this idea anyway.

Basically the trick (apart from getting the right coding in each .vmt file) is to paste the environment mask (what makes it shiny) in the Alpha channel (found under Channels), while leaving the bumpmap as the RGB channels (that is, your main texture). Only thing to remember is to Enable the Alpha channel when pasting the envmask and Disable the RGB (blue bumpmap texture) and viceversa, so that you don't end up pasting something where you shouldn't.

(https://i.imgur.com/sbC5yDB.jpg)

If done correctly, when you enable both the RGB and Alpha channels you should see them overlaid on top of each other.
