Good news: The next SDK version 1.6.0 will include full-featured lip-sync and subtitle editor based on HL2's FacePoser in which writting new lipsyncs doesn't require any manual editings! The tool is ready yet and just needs testing :)
That's good news indeed! Does it support saving the phoneme data into a lip file instead embedding it into the dialog audio file like HL2 does? In any case, would be interested in giving it a spin if that's a possibility. :)
It automatically generates all phonemes and subtitles for selected .wav or .mp3 file depending on entered phrase text. Also program allows edit already existing game's .lip files. No any hand editing - just select existing sound file (or bundle of) and follow instructions. In future plans I'll add the parser for .dlg files to automatically extract NPC lines and update text in existing .lip files with this (or even create new ones, for users custom dialogs) - as you maybe know, the texts inside of .dlg and lineXXX_col_#.lip must match for showing correct subtitles, and dlgs often edited in patches or users mods.

Mind if I help you test? This could save me a pile of work...
Yes, the new SDK is released including beta version of this. Check out it's original topic and try it.

This is really good. I couldn't figure out how to manipulate where it starts and ends the words etc., but it does a very good job of matching them up to the spoken sentence anyway. When I tested one line in game, the character's mouth moved with the words perfectly in sync to the audio :D And it was all auto generated, I didn't have to change it.

Since I have already been doing .lip files the hard way, if there are any problems I can just adjust the lip file myself... but now it's WAYYYY less work than it was!

This doesn't make .VCD files so you still have to make that part. The speaker name in the .lip is what's on screen, but the Actor part of the VCD must have its name set to the exact entity name of the NPC speaking or it won't work.

VCD is so easy though, the start and end times are in the .lip file, the rest is super simple.

You turned 15 to 60 minute job per line into a matter of a minute or two! Thanks so much, moding so much better now :D

I'm gonna finish making the male prostitute tonight! I had only done 15% of the dialog lip files before...
