As many other posters have pointed out it seems like you've done everything right. The only thing that seems really strange to me is that you should have the UP readme in your root folder but it doesn't look like it's there based on the most recent screen snap.

Here's my advice...

Start over with a brand new install. Delete the shortcut on your desktop from the last intsall. Reinstall the game to a new directory. It's Windows XP we're dealing with here, so make a directory without any spaces or other special characters in the name, e.g. "D:\bloodlines", "D:\vamp"

Install the mod, point it at this new directory. You really shouldn't have to do anything else. Don't install any other UP version.

The installer should make a new desktop icon. If it's still not working try making a new shortcut yourself and using that.

Also, just curious: do you _also_ have the Steam version on this computer? I usually get this error if I try launching the Steam version without logging into steam first although it doesn't make any sense that it would be targeting the Steam version...

Also, if you have a newer computer, and it's crashing maybe try a fresh install on that system? CQM is unfortunately prone to crashes on very particular maps although there's usually a workaround which I can describe based on the specific map it's crashing on.

Good luck, and I appreciate the patience you've had trying to install the mod!

First and foremost, I want to thank you for your quick answer (yes, it was quick !). I'm fully aware that you must get many questions and requests and I'm very grateful that you could spare some time for my personal (and cryptic) case.

I followed your advice (fresh install and custom shortcut) and, unfortunately, didn't have more success. In fact, I had a new kernel32 error on top of that but I was able to solve the problem thanks to the compatibility mode (Windows 98) ! :(

I have joined a new capture to this post in case I didn't spot a difference or anomaly compared to the first install.

That being said, your remark about the absence of the UP Readme in my root directory concerns me. Could other files be missing for whatever reason ? In this case, the problem may be related to the installer itself. Having Windows XP as O.S. doesn't help, probably.

Oh, and to answer your question, my veteran PC doesn't have Steam installed ! It has no Internet connection besides.

I must admit that I hadn't encountered such a challenge in retrogaming for a long time ! But the reward is worth the effort, so I'll keep looking for a solution.

I renew my sincere thanks for your help !
