New Clan Specific Discipline Mod
« on: February 06, 2011, 02:02:32 am »
I've been working on several new clan specific disc. including Necromancy (ranged), Forces (ranged fire), Obtenebrate (multi target short ranged), chimestry (melee weapon summoning, 5th level being sheriff sword), Ironing out quites (battle oriented obfuscate), and what I need help in is Protean, both adding a wolf form for level 4, and making a version of viscitude using the tzimisce models. I know I'm going to have to play with .h files, any good decompiler anyone can suggest? I have pictures of some of the effects if anyone wants to see them. Thank you for any help in this matter.  :bite:

Yea, I'd love to see screen shots! Sounds like an exciting mod. And you should talk to some of the other modders on this board that have similar ambitions, both The Final Nights project, and the Antitribu Mod.

So, I'm confused though. How are you going about changing these disciplines? I am not too keen on editing the disciplines myself, but from what I do know, it's all just about editing a few files in the vdata folder to suit your needs. If you're already doing something more complex than that you're going to blow everyone on this board away!

But on the other hand, if you're new to the modding scene of Vampire, there's a few limitation of modding the game you should become aware of:

1) Can't really make new models. You can modify existing ones and move the verticies around and add new skins, but that's about it.

2) De-compiling the executable is a battle in futility! I tried once to do this to up the game's limit on in-game inventory items, and my brain melted. If you're a wizard at assembly, you might be able to do something basic but adding new disciplines that way would be trying at best.

Anyways, I don't want to be discouraging ... in fact, I'm curious to know more about what you had in mind specifically! Maybe if we knew more about what you wanted to achieve, some of the guys that mod the disciplines could tell you more about how you could make it happen.

For some reason I'm having a problem with my forces and obtenebrate screenshot showing up once I upload it, but it shows necromancy and chimestry...
http://ventrueian.host-ed.net/
As far as the other thing on Protean, I do need help implementing that, right now it uses the normal protean form, then when he comes out of it takes the Andrei beast form I want, until I swing and he changes back...but a HELL of alot closer then I was getting
:drink: That technique has ALOT of promise, originally for obtenebration I wanted there to be a shadow form, and using that I may very well be able to add that...
I can't say I've done anything special, so much as I've poured over the 5 disciplinegt00X files, the traiteffect000 file, the items (for chimestry to work I had to add clawform to a few weapons, and copy weapon codes to the protean4&5 claw items...I've also experimented with what particles it would let me use for disc effects...and yes, I've noticed ALOT of limitations, but we work with what we got  :vampwink:

UPDATE: just disabling FX_WolfForm in traiteffects000 did the trick, now I just need to give it a way to attack...since summoning weapons has been working so well I'll try that out, looks cool as hell though having the tzimisce turn into andrei's beastform.
Yea, I failed...horribly, he can't attack, but the regular andrei model can...
do you by chance know how you would test for disc level? ie pc.hasDiscipline....err...something?
