Changing Companion Weapons in Clan Quest Mod
« on: July 27, 2019, 04:11:30 am »
Hi there! I'm a long-time fan of Bloodlines but completely new to the headache of trying to edit it. :(

I have recently reinstalled the game in order to try out the sabbat ending and generally test the new Clan Quest Mod, and I've just helped and recruited Yukie as a companion in one of my playthroughs. I have both CompMod lite and lenka's arsenal mod installed, and while Yukie used a "medieval sword" (arsenal mod replacement for "katana") and a strong shotgun (I believe it was "Dragon's Breath") when fighting the hengeyokai, since I recruited her as a companion she is only using a slow axe and the weakest pistol in the game!

I tried giving her my best weapons via the "open your backpack" dialogue option, talking to her about combat and switching to either melee or ranged multiple times, sending her back to my haven and getting her back, all to no avail. I have discovered the bug that if you give her a firearm and then take it back her inventory will have full ammo (even if your weapon originally didn't, making buying bullets redundant if you use this exploit - I roleplay so I don't, but I'm reporting this bug in case anyone hasn't), but I could not get her to use a better weapon and actually be useful in combat.

So then I downloaded Python, looked through the CQM .py files and still couldn't find any way to change default weapons for npcs. I did eventually find statutil.py where I could edit her skills, attributes, health etc (although this doesn't seem to work either as I tried setting her health to 9000 as a test and she still seems just as killable as before if I attack her on a savegame), but still no trace of weapon settings. I also tried pretty much all the commands in the game and while I can give myself any item/weapon there doesn't seem to be any way to access the inventory of npcs via console (if they do have one, as this isn't Skyrim and I'm starting to think NPCs do not have a full inventory as you or containers do) or to get them to equip anything.

So, is there any edit I could do to force her to use better weapons, and, less importantly, does any of you know why the statutil.py edit I did might not work?

Thank you very much for your time and have a good night!

To be clear I am perfectly fine with doing this in-game as well - I just couldn't find a way myself. Given that nobody complained aboout this issue before (at least in the last 10 pages of this forum) I'm also thinking it could be a conflict  between the Arsenal mod and Compmod Light (which were both integrated in CQM 4.1) and players who didn't install both wouldn't experience it.

Anyway, any help is much appreciated, even info on how you change the weapons npcs use in the vanilla game if you're not that familiar with CQM. I've created a few minor mods for strategy games like "Civilization V" or "Stellaris" in the past, but I'm no programmer and bloodlines is a lot more counterintuitive in the way the lines of code are written (at least to laymen like me :))) ) , so I would be really grateful for any advice! Thank you very much in advance!
