  •                 Hi everyone, just started playing this game recently and I was amazed at the amount of great mods and skins out there. I've started using a few, but since I'm not too good with modding my games I've held off on any major changes.
I just wanted to know whether it was possible to, let's say, swap Jeanette's model with your main character, or use another clan's model. Could I just replace the relevant files, or should I use a program?
Also, I am using wesp's excellent 6.5 patch right now, but I'm thinking of installing some mods as well. It won't mess anything up right?

Check out the vtmb mod developer guide. it pretty much lays out exactly how to switch the player models. As for installing mods, check the instructions in the mod; it will usually specify whether or not it will play friendly with others. In any case, you'll probably have to start a new game for most of the bigger mods, so count on that at least.

The only 2 mods I know of that are 6.5 compatible are Clan Quest Mod and Camarilla Edition. Other popular mods include Companion Mod, POP's Difficulty and Enhancement Mod, and Pen and Paper + Clans Mod. I'm not sure if they have merged those mods with 6.5 or not.
     Less invasive mods include...
     Arsenal Mod by Lunesk@
     Silent Masqu by $hacaR
Plenty of good mods for Bloodlines.

Actually swapping models, so that for example you, as a Malkavian, play as Jeanette and Jeanette uses the Malkavian model I'm not sure, as I've never done it. I imagine it would be a case of taking the model for Jeanette and the Malkavian and renaming them so that the Jeanette model has the name of the Malkavian model and vice-versa.
If you're looking to play using another model for your character then there's two ways to go about it I believe. One is similar to the above, except just doing it for the player, the other is to edit the clandoc000.txt file to point at different models then the defaults depending on which clan you are and which clothing you are wearing. Apparently this second method is much more likely to break any patches or mods you are using. I don't have any problems with what I run, but that isn't a great deal (just the unofficial patch a lot of the time).
If you want to give the second method a try you can find the clandoc000.txt in Vampire\vdata\system\. You'd need to open it up and scroll down to the section for the clan you are playing, let's say for this example that you are Ventrue and want to use Jeanette's model.  I would change
     "F_Body0"      "models/character/pc/female/ventrue/armor1/ventrue_Female_Armor_1.mdl"
     "F_Body0"      "models/character/npc/unique/santa_monica/jeanette/jeanette.mdl"
And the same for all the other F_Body lines (or M_body for a Male character).
