Hello everyone!

I haven't done much Bloodlines modding in the past -- besides removing the female Tremere PC's wrist tattoos -- but lately I've had a hankerin' for writing, and so...

Troika initially had plans to largely  differentiate player responses in dialogue depending on their clan, right? All that's left of that in the final product is the Malkavian "dialect", if you will, and some bits and pieces for the other clans, like the Toreador's unique refusal to shred VV's script for her.

I was merely wondering if it would be possible to implement unique responses for other clans, too. Just stuff like how a Malkavian says "I am gone" while the other clans just say "see ya" -- I'm not interested in adding new branches onto the existing dialogue tree, so to speak, as that would require new lines for NPCs.

I'd like to make the Toreador's speech more florid, the Brujah's demeanor a bit more brusque, and so on, just as a fun little pet project.

Unless it's hard-coded within the game that only Malkavians (can) draw from a non-generic pool of responses, and the other clans' one-offs are purpose-built for their respective scenarios.

It's possible, it isn't hardcoded. You can do it by editing the dlg files.

Or to be more specific, the system of the dialogue lines is like this:

{ male response }{ female response }{ target linenumber}{ condition }{ action }[ clan specific answers, only the last one for the Malkavians is used }

I knew it would come down to editing the .dlg files, but I wasn't sure if there was syntax for clans other than the Malkavians, basically. There is, so that's great -- I wouldn't want to make separate .dlg packs for every clan, and I should've been more specific that's what I was asking to avoid.

These clan-specific responses can also differ depending on the PC's gender, right?  Probably a stupid question, but just to be sure -- because I can't remember if a Malkavian PC, for example, ever refers to themselves as a man or woman depending on what they are...

Not if you use the simple setup above, you'll need to check for a specific gender if you want that and clan specific responses. BTW, I never tested which of the slots is for which clan, only that Malkavian is the last.

Malkavian is last, the rest is plain alphabetical order: Brujah, Gangrel, Nosferatu, Toreador, Tremere, Ventrue, Malkavian.
