about strange graphical glitches in Chinatown

Hey, I've been looking at the Chinatown map a lot, and I've noticed something.

There's at least one func_areaportalwindow on the map that doesn't work properly, due to a known bug with source/HL2.

Specifically, the brush that the func_areaportalwindow uses has to be a texture called "dev_window", which isn't present in VtMB, so it appears whoever made this just used the effects/black texture instead.

Two things are wrong with this. One, you see a black square materialize when you are around the area portal sometimes. Two, the area portal makes part of the map disappear, even when you should be able to see it.

The whole point of area portals is to hide parts of the map from rendering when they are out of view.

In Chinatown it is an easy fix: Just take out the areaportal window they have there, and the brush associated to it. Then make a func_areaportal there instead covering the same space as the func_areaportalwindow brush did. Then make triggers all around the map anywhere far enough away the player could go that close the area portal when walking away. Make other triggers just a little closer to the area portal that open it again.

Poof, no more mysterious disappearing half of Chinatown.

Anyway, my mod is including newly updated versions of all the hubs, so this bug won't be present in them. But if you are releasing new patches Wesp, maybe you might consider this fix too.

If you walk out in front of the Fu Syndicate office building, then turn away from it and head towards the alley that leads to the club and the downstairs of Lotus Blossom, the area portal window there has never worked properly for me, in any installation of the game with any patch or mod.

The city in front of you is invisible past the alley, until you go inside it and pass through the area portal window, then the city behind you (where the Fu Syndicate building is) becomes invisible instead.

Strange, this works fine for me! I can see the Fu Syndicate building even with the back to Glaze.

That is strange... I wonder why it would do that.

In any case, I think func_areaportalwindow in an alley doesn't really make sense anyway...I'll change it in mine...but whatever. Maybe it's just my setup for some reason.
