A Modmod Request for the Companion Mod
« on: November 16, 2010, 01:39:39 am »

First, thanks to anyone who read this. I know how painful requests can be.
Anyway, I was hoping someone could add a companion to the mod for me. See, Brian (the beach house guard) is probably the best looking male character in the entire game. It pains me to have to kill him/leave him whenever I end up there. So I was wondering if someone could make him available for companionship (wow I don't sound like I'm writing an ad for a dating website at all... ^^;). I'm not asking for anyone to make a whole new mod out of him. Just adding the basic script to let him join my group.

I've talked to the creator of Companion Mod, Dheuster, who isn't working on the mod anymore. I have tried to mod it myself because generally I'm pretty decent at that (at least with Civ4) but it was a catastrophe. I won't go into details, but basically when Brian wasn't caught in a loop he was bashing my brains out with a bat.

Does anyone think they could maybe do it for me? I'd really appreciate it.

Lol I had to read that twice.
You mean the Mortal guard at the gate in the first part of the game? The meaty one with no shirt on that is a total dick to you unless you promise to sleep with him?
I can see a few glaring issues with that idea, which I would explain through interpretive dance if you could see me, but since you can't, I will pretend to be prince Lacroix. *ahem.*

*Highrise, night, interior.*

L: "There you are. I was informed of your presence in the building. Since you're here, I'll take the liberty of assuming you've destroyed the ware... Who is THAT guy?!"
You: "Oh, he's the guard from the place where I went to get the Astrolite."
L: "And.... Why... Is he here?"
You: "He has nice abs."
L: "But... He's a mortal?"
You: "With nice abs."
L: "Are you sure you're not malkavian?"
Sheriff "Magilla Gorilla": "RAAAAAAAAAWWWWWRRRRR!!!"

I get your point. I really do. =D

But you could say the same thing about the prostitutes you can pick up, not to mention some of the other female characters in the game, so I'm asking, why can't people have the option of Brian? He might be a jerk, but he seems like a good jerk to have on your side... Or at your side or whatever.

And yes, he does have very nice abs, glad I'm not the only one who noticed. =P

You will have to open up console by hitting the tilda key (`)
In console, type "picker": (] = the console prompt, dont type this).

] picker

Hit Tilda again to exit console.

The "picker" command will cause additional information to appear about any NPC that the mouse hovers over
Hover the mouse over the NPC you want and note their name. You may want to write it down if it is complex.
Open the console back up and type:

] import companion
] companion.addToParty(FindEntityByName("NAME_OF_NPC"))

replace NAME_OF_NPC with the name you wrote down from the picker.
Make sure you are standing next to the npc when you type the command.

When you exit the console, the NPC will become your companion. You will probably want to go back to the console and type "picker" again to deactivate it. Unless it is someone that I allow you to make a companion at some other time, they will not have any audio.

If you accidently make someone a companion who is important, you can always unmake them a companion by ordering them to return from where they came from and remember nothing.

I had mentioned this hack/trick in my own forums, but I just noticed today that they are down. So planet-vampire is now where my forum link official takes you...

Well thanks Dheu. I just switched Brian and Carson's models in the map files. Works fine for me, but good to know there's a better alternative.

Like i don't mean to be rude but that would be a lot of work and the comp mod is good enough the way it is why don't you just ask for something more simple like a addon or a skin or what ever.
