Title: What did you today in the World of Darkness?
Post by: fylimar on June 04, 2019, 07:42:39 pm
I thought, we could make a thread, where you can post everything WoD related in. Wether it is a good LARP or P&P session, a rereading of some of the novels, another go with Bloodlines, a cosplay...

I may as well beginn.
Today, I played the ClanQUestMod a bit more with my Nosferatu gentleman Mycroft Holmes. I found a really cool Nosferatu skin (it's this one: https://www.nexusmods.com/vampirebloodlines/mods/98) and I think, Gary will be very impressed. After I finished the CQM with a Toreador, that did join the Sabbat and ended the game with a really low humanity, I will play Mycroft probably as a really nice guy. He gives Mercurio his money back, helps Heather and does generally good stuff. He probably will go with the Camarilla ending, because he likes to join his clanmates.
Another playthrough, I have waiting, is my Malkavian Hannah P. Lovecraft. She will be based on my P&P character as much as I can play her that way. My Hannah is musician and explorer and a very social gal.

Another thing, I'm planning, is a story set in the WoD universe, for my next NanoWriMO camp in July. It is a crossover story between my own dark fantasy universe and the WoD, because I think, they might go well together.

I changed the magazines at the Sin Bin so that I didn't have to look at Chin Magazine anymore.

Ah now I get it

Myself I had a dream not exactly about The World Of Darkness but still a world of darkness. I was in the bathroom when a really ugly naked hairless 2-meters-tall 30-cm-donged dude entered to kill me. Despite I was using the toilet brush in his mouth to keep me away he still pushed myself to the wall trying to reach me. My yelling to my roommate in the other bathroom was in vain until he finished showering and turned off the music. While the dude had to leave me to defend from my roommate I could pick the stapler and use it on his balls. And by the records, every night I have long and creative dreams .

Sounds like something I would dream.  lol  I swear I dream entire epic films sometimes.  lol

Once I dreamed of a crime movie, with john travolta as a balding overweight killer for hire and john turturro as the cop investigating in his last murder before he unveil it's not a single murder

Ha ha!  Yep, that's the kind of dramatic stuff I dream.  Sometimes its more fantasy or horror themed though.  And sometimes I revisit the same places.

One place I have been visiting in my dreams since I was just a little boy is this dark forest with a trail going though it, with trees that are monumentally tall, like taller than most trees on earth, and they are ancient as well and their canopies are so thick and large that they are close together even though the tree trunks are spread apart about what you would normally expect in a forest, but the canopies are so close that not a lot of light penetrates through the branches.    Its always dark as night in the forest regardless of the time of day.  Many of the trees branches are covered in huge spider webs with MANY spiders living in them of varying size.  From tarantulas to spiders as big as horses or even elephants and even some as big as houses.  But there is one that lives situated upside down at the very top of the canopy of the forest, looking down at everyone who passes through the forest with many eyes.  It is indescribably huge.  Its so big that if you do shine a light up there you can't see all of it at once.  You only ever see part of it.  But you know what it is and its terrifying, so whenever you go through that forest you do NOT shine a light up there or look straight up if someone is burning a bright campfire.  You also try to stay away from ever having to climb any of the trees for fear of disturbing the hordes of spiders of varying sizes that live in the branches.  As long as you leave them alone, they leave you alone. Whenever I find myself there in my dreams, I try to get through that forest as quickly as possible.

Played my Malkavian a bit more. She couldn't resist sending that Thinblood after Lacroix. I think, she might be a real rogue. She blackmailed the doctor (only because he wouldn't help poor Heather) and told Mercurio, that she didn't find his money. Otherwise, she is a pretty nice girl, so probably a rogue with a golden heart. I like it.

I'm contemplating to play the Torrie again from King's Way onward (I have a save there, right before entering Andreis chamber) and this time not joining the Sabbat, so that I can do the Toreador clan quest, that sounds surprisingly interesting - surprisingly, because I normally find Torries pretty dull. This playthrough was only interesting because of joining the Sabbat. It felt right for that character. And I don't know, if that was Torri specific dialogue, but my Torri had some occasions, where she could compliment Andrei for his 'art'. That was deliciously creepy. Reminded me of what Outstar said in her Toreador video about them being the creepiest clan.

If you are playing the latest Unofficial Patch, you might see some proof that he got near to LaCroix at least ;)!

That sounds great, I always wondered, why we never hear from a tried breakin or something like that. At the moment, I play CQM 4.0 and I think, it doesn't have the latest version of your patch, but since I can't stop playing VTMB at the moment, I might try it with the latest UP too :)

This one xp isn't very important, but not getting the humanity point increases the chance that you can tell Lilly what she really is without having to kill someone before freeing her.

Concerning Lilly, I miss the line: "You're right. You are not a monster. If you can't control it you're an animal."

Several lives ago I've lost virginity with a Malkavian ninja woman. My very first playthrough I mean. And that's still unforgetable. Since then almost always Malky, few times Tremere(-ish), and have to tell the terrible truth I have never tried other clans, probably not ready yet. lol

I'm doing my first Brujah playthrough ever and so far not especially wowed.  I was hoping Jack would have acknowledged be as a fellow Brujah but he hasn't.  None of the Brujah Anarchs seem to care.  lol

Yeah, Trioka had no time for the detailed work on each clan, which sucks.

Yes, although I get acknowledgement from LaCroix when I play Ventrue, acknowledgement from Strauss when I play Tremere, I know there is definite acknowledgement for Malks and Nossies.  I would have liked at least ONE line of dialogue from at least ONE of the other Brujahs.

I've only heard that Toreadors are having some lines with Isaak, Ash and maybe Talking Doll (not sure though).

Yes, VV has some special lines. Not worth being mean to Gary though, which you have to do as a Torrie

Doesn't Jack do that in the intro if you are Brujha?

I recently played the Brujah chick and I can't remember any lines he had about my character.

He did have a couple of lines for me as a Nosferatu... and not very kind ones !

Not that I noticed, but I rarely do the full intro, I usually tell him to just give me the basics.

Yeah, he said nothing to me either, when I asked him for the basic explanation.

Damsel has a line or two about a Brujah PC but I think that's it. I don't remember anything else specifically for Brujah except Bertram Tang comments about each of the clans. Beckett has comments for Gangrel, Jeanette for Malkavian (many others also), Bertram Tung and Garry for Nosferatu (Isaac has different answer for Nosferatu, Nines also I think and many other NPCs) and I think all other clans were mentioned more or less (lets's not forget Bertram Tung for Tremere and Garry for Toreador).

Since I was at a music festival, I hadn't much time to do anything in the World of Darkness. I developed some ideas for my story and looking forward to play my Malkavian Hanna P. Lovecraft and my Nosferatur Mycroft Holmes a bit more.
I watched the new gameplay trailers though and they were great, I'm so excited. I'm normally not a preorder person, but I might make an exception for Bloodlines 2

Even it that happened way before my time I would love a parody remake of ET: same graphics and mechanics but a different, and weirdest as possible, plot combined with nasty NSFW/NSFL commentary in a creepy voice by the alien itself. Maybe about how he loves humans and wants to got us pregnant to death. And how the other characters completely misunderstood his intents (being seen as a spacewrecked innocent victim by the kids or the war mongering fiend by the US army)

I'm on bed full on aspirins and agonizing for a sore throat if you want to know

Hannah is my p&p character, She plays violin in a punk rock band and is often on the road with her sire, who is some kind of detective, that gets hired by other Kindred. Since he is too paranoid to deal with people directly most of the time, Hannah does most of the talking. She is a very social person. Her own mental illness is anxiety.

Mycroft is a really nice guy, who dresses very old fashioned. I use a mod for that, which gives the male Nosferatu a nice ne outfit (Gary is very envious).

Neither, I didn't want to be too obvious, so she is Phoebe.

I really would love to play that character again in a p&p round.

I think the same joke was made in Wasteland 2, where you also find a cartridge dump in the middle of Arizona. Didn't get it at the time.

Played my Malk Hannah a bit more. So far, she confused the heck out of everyone. I'm still surprised, how well Strauss handled it to being accused of treachery (the very first sentence, you say as a Malk to him). He really takes it with grace and only says something about being careful what to say in front of others, not everyone would be as understanding as he is. Cudos to our local Tremere regent here.

I said earlier, that I want to write a Vampire story. I decided to write it in English despite it not being my native language. I play the game in English, all my rule books and novels are in English, somehow, it would feel strange to write the story in German. Plus good for practice :)

Oh, definitely, me for example ;). But somehow, I ended up having nearly everything WoD related in English, so for me, it is easier, to write the story in English than German in this case

Of course there are german kindred. Our patcher for example. And I am too.
But why bother with german when everybody wants to speak english these days. And then you get junk like "delicate crackers" or "mealy cooking" potatoes, whatever that is supposed to mean...

I started a Ventrue playthrough with the newest UB patch. I never played Ventrue before, the disciplines are cool, but it sucks, that you can't feed on rats, especially after tough fights.
I had to change the skin though, I don't like the female Ventrue, she looks too posh for my taste. I use Barabbahs Ventrue lady with the red hair, very nice skin

The Ventrue male is my favorite model in the game, so I have downloaded a lot of replacement male models based on it for the other clans.

I don't know, the Ventrue do nothing for me, male or female. Together with male and female Toreador they are my least favorite skins (well the vanilla Malks are pretty bad too).
But nowadays, I nearly mod all clans, I play, apart from female Tremere, I like her hippie look

As far as I remember it works only if you install it on the clear ancient 1.2, despite the readme says "any version".

I'm kind of okay with fights, but SWAT in a hockey protection sure is something, lol. And what I really didn't like is killing Malks in Grout's mansion, that was completely pointless and meaningless.

I'm sorry, I rated your post accidentally dumb, that wasn't my intention, I actually agree with you, that there are too many strange fights in Antitribu mod. I can't undo it,  I tried, so please accept my apology.
I'm on phone and wanted to quote the post after yours and clicked accidentally on the rating buttons of your post.

It was also needed, other than a clean install, the AT hotfix. Each .exe and .dll file was replaced with fixed ones. I expressed some doubts of compability with the game outside the mod but I don't remember what was the answer (I don't even remember if theee was an answer at all LOL!)

What did I do today in the World of Darkness? Well....

I'm playing through Bloodlines for the first time(with no prior knowledge of anything WoD/VtM related, btw...) I'm a guy, but my character is a female Toreador named Annabelle. For history I chose homosexual. I probably won't chose that again, doesn't seem to effect anything/matter? Was really hoping you'd meet your ex GF and have to make a choice of some kind. It's not looking likely. :(

A few days ago, I met a kinda-kool-but-creepy guy in a cemetary. After trying and failing his little quest a half dozen times, I thought to myself, 'what would a not-dead chick named Anna do? She'd find a way....'

Then I slept with him for experience. :)

Yesterday, on my quest to find a ginger, I stopped by to catch up and realized I could sleep with him again! I didn't, though. Anna has to have some standards dammit!

Instead, I tried to defend the cemetary from the zombie horde - yet again - and failed and re-loaded - yet again! Then I went on my way.

Today I went toe-to-toe with a stone Gargoyle wielding my trusty fire axe. Not a good idea.

Yes, the zombie battle is hard. But with celerity it should be doable. You fiund one way around the fight and there is another (which I believe gives a better reward in addition to the xp).
For the gargoyle, you can find some info and maybe even help downtown.
Just out of curiosity, have you found your ginger yet?
Title: Re: What did you today in the World of Darkness?
Post by: curseofnight on July 12, 2019, 11:38:35 am
I found the tape in the cemetary but Issac said the beginning was missing so I'm investigating snuff stuff.

Edit: Also, I had like 30 or so experience points saved up so I maxed celerity and still couldn't do it. In my defense, I'm playing with a controller so lining up a headshot quickly is.... not gonna happen, heh. It takes me an extra second or two to line up a headshot - and I generally miss anyway unless I get really close.

The only time I remember to have won that mission was with a Lasombra (from Antitribu), using the grenade launcher (from the Arsenal mod included in AT) and using cheats for invulnerability, infinite blood and ammo and instant reloading. Then I had also to slow down myself in fear of burning up my own pc hahaha
Title: Re: What did you today in the World of Darkness?

In fact the zombie quest is doable with every clan and without the use of disciplines but is more like exploit or boss fight tactics and definitely not a "go ahead" situation. I usually only use a katana.

@Pumma - I tried melee but I kept getting grabbed. Shooting them from way far away seemed to get me a little closer to a win.

Edit: I don't have a katana yet, just the fire axe. When I find one, I may try melee again. However, pretty sure celerity isn't maxed anymore, I think I re-loaded a previous save, slept with Romero and spent the points on other stats, :(

All I am saying is that there is trick that allows the player to do the quest even with a melee weapon, but this trick would be a spoiler for a first playthrough. Normally it is impossible to do it with melee weapon and no disciplines or guns. And I don't want to spoil your game further.

Ah, I see.... Y'know, I was about to type that I don't use cheats, but I use little 'starter' mods I made for myself and my friends in the fallout series, which adds a chest of caps and a few thousand rounds of ammo. Same thing in the Elder Scrolls, except there it's steel armor and weapons plus a bunch of gold.

Hell, I recently just started uploading more serious mods (one that makes the reticle in Alpha Protocol 10x smaller and another that makes the flashlight in FEAR stay on) but they're basically cheat mods too. :(

The guy in the cementary, Romero, can be used as a blood doll, if you sleep with him.

You don't sleep with him again, it's just feeding animation. He is not a bum, so you can feed as a Ventrue from him. I'm playing as a Ventrue at the moment for the first time (not my favorite clan) and must say, the not feeding on bums or rats is a bummer (yeah pun intended, I guess ;))

So, my Ventrue lady arrived in Hollywood, did the quests for VV and Ash (and even managed to be nice to VV and what did she get - an autograph ... that was just ... no) and recruited the Gargoyle for her fellow anarchs. Then she walked the way of the Kings, I won't go into detail from here on, since I don't know, if curseofnight had done that quest yet. Let's just say, she had done all she could in Hollywood and is ready to move on.

And I started writing a VtM novel - a crossover with my own world. It is just some kind of exercise for another, bigger story, that I'm writing, that has nothing to do with WoD, but with lovecraftian horror, but for character development, I've decided to put my main characters into another world to see, how they would do

I hope it will deal less on the derived and bladant show off of tentacles and fiendish stuff and more on the principal aspect of Lovecraft's art: the psychological and atmospheric tension where you fight to keep your mental sanity.

That was a joke. :) Although, the rest is true(about feeding on a bum and puking and having a micro-freak out cuz I though my Char was about to die, lol.)

That's kool you're writing your own story and thanks for sparing me the Post-Hollywood spoilers, :)

I'm still in Hollywood. I haven't really played it much more than 15-20 mins a day this past week. Trying to teach myself C and C++ in my spare time.

I plan to set aside some time tonight, and into the early morning, to sit down and make some progress. I've actually been looking forward to it, haha.

Edit: Well I beat the Tzime-something guy down in the basement of the Kings Way mansion - he was actually kind of easy - then I went into the sewers and hacked the backdoor and immediately got my butt kicked by the two new enemies thrown at you back to back(the dude with the green spell that slows you and the spider lady). Neither one killed me but each came close! Good thing I learned during the fight in the basement that blood packs heal your life, haha.

Anyway, I was thinking: while it's nice that you fylimar are willing to forgo spoilers simply because I may click on this thread, you, and everyone else, shouldn't really have to do that because of me. I think I'm just going to leave this thread until after I finish game. I just figured I'd let everyone know so you guys could have a little spoiler-party :)

Fun fact : I discovered not so long ago that if you are a little less nice with her, she gives you 400$ instead.

Yep, poetry... For those of you who have read Douglas Adams: it's not quite Vogon quality but it comes close. :P
Anyway, not being nice to her is a lot more fun.

It all depends on the perspective. Myself, being a supporter of Isaac, I won't mind being nice to her. And for the records, playing as a nossie and doing her quests without doing any mistake she will still "thanks" you with "I'm willing to ignore the incredible lengths you've gone to be an asshole." (the default answer to completing her missions without killing innocents but doing everything else wrong).

Hmmm, today I finished a new doodle of my Toreador Lamia - it was inspired by one of the unused vtm soundtrack pieces called "All That Could Ever Be". She's supposed to be on the Santa Monica Pier here - I absolutely had to include one of the ships that could be seen in the distance on the ocean in vtm:bloodlines….for some reason I always like to look at them while playing - they made me feel very nostalgic ^^'

My Ventrue girl helped Beckett investigating the Sabbat activity in the library and then started Mitnicks quest.
And I continued my story, which really got dark.

Today in the World of Darkness I learned that being LaCroix's lackey to the end really blows....

First I lose my Heather, then my Prince, then my life... which I had already lost at the start I suppose... was I doomed from the start?

Can't wait to start a new game. Gonna go with a malkavian, but first I gotta dye her hair pink. :)

Malkavians are fun to play. I normally use other skins too. My favorite for Malkavian is the Tzimisce female scin from the Antitribu mod.

I'm still playing with my Ventrue girl at the moment. I killed my way through the Society of Leopold, saved the old archaeologist and am now at the Hallowbrook Hotel, fighting through hordes of Sabbat. I really don't like killing Andrei, I love that guy, he has style and a great voice actor. I think, I Have to play a new Clan Quest Mod Sabbat playthrough. They managed to find a va for Andrei, who sounded very similar to Steve Blum.
Oh and I did rat out Lacroix to the Anarchs. I told Damsel of his allegiance with the Kuei Jin - needlessly to say, she wasn't happy. Damsel is the reason, I normally choose the Anarch ending, I love her, she is probably one of my favorite characters in Bloodlines (with Gary, Beckett, Andrei and Mercurio)

Damsel is awesome, especially her sunshiny smile when you tell her that. Fully voiced bruja protagonist as Damsel with cinematographic dialogues would be just great.

Strauß ending is not the baddest in my opinion. I think, it fits best, if you play Tremere, but I think, I did it with a Malkavian too once.

Today my Ventrue girl destroyed the Sabbat. I still find the fight against Andrei one of the most difficult, more difficult than MIng Xiao for example. She can easily be outrunned and outgunned, but if you stop running around for a second or have the bad luck that Andrei is landing on your head (quite literally), it really hurts a lot.

LaCroix had found out, that I was working with the Anarchs all along and has now send me to make peace with Nines. Off to Griffith Park it is.
I always have to cheat through that section, because it is totally bugged in my game, don't know why, but the button to close the door on the werewolf to kill him is not working. I see him, but he can't be pressed. SO I normally float around with noclip until the train is coming back. I hate this part. One reason, I mostly play Sabbat in Clan Quest Mod, you don't have to do Griffith Park - yay.

I'm using a nice skin made by Barabbah for my Ventrue, I have a pic attached. I really like it

It's a very interesting ending in contrast with the Anarch/Independent one because it highlights the flaws of the Camarilla. There's really nothing to fear inside the sarcophagus... that however, does not suit the princes and overlords that try to rule over kindred. Pretty tragic to me at least.

You can do that in the plus version?  Poor dude couldn't keep up and make it to the boat in time with the basic patch (I'm sure he couldn't have kept up with a young human let alone a vampire :)  ).   I keep saying I'll do it but I have yet to use the plus patch.

There's a spot that, if you crouch, wolfie won't attack you too.  Then it's a race to the trolley which can be exciting.

I certainly don't like the LA camarilla.
I despise Lacroix the moment I enter his throneroom. The way everybody has to stand one step below him as a supplicant makes me angry. That guy still thinks he is something better just because he was born as a "noble"... I must stop now to prevent puking on my keyboard
And Strauss says with every word he utters how great the cam is and if something goes wrong, it's always the anarchs to blame. He doesn't even stop to think if maybe someone or something else might be responsible. How am I supposed to respect a leader who puts his opinion before the facts.

About the professor. In the plus patch you get a message if you managed to recue him. And if you did it is mentioned in the quest log as well.

I agree, I can't stand Lacroix either, he is such an annoying character. When he gets that fit, when he can't open the sarcophagus, I'm always reminded of Sebastian in Dragon Age 2 in the end, when he threatens to destroy Kirkwall. Funny that two of my most disliked characters in games are both called Sebastian xD

Feliciano Alberto Martín Frontado Rodríguez. Nice to meet you. No Sebastian as you can see. Maybe some villains are named Sebastian but overall I like the name.

I think it's important to distinguish wether we actually hate Lacroix as an individual or wether we hate him as a character. I dislike him as an individual but I find him to be a compelling villain and a great character. Would've deffinitely loved seeing him in BL2 if he wasn't likely to die in the first one.

I think, Lacroix could be categorized as a decent villain, but he isn't my favorite villain (that would be Loghain from Dragon Age Origins and Meredith from Dragon Age 2). I would have loved to have an explanation for him trying to diablerize the supposed antediluvian inside the sarcophagus though. I mean, from the vampire leaders, he was the only one, who wanted to do that - even ANdrei was adamant to destroy the sarcophagus with everything in it. So yeah, there are still questions about Lacroix.
And his magilla gorilla

What about Corypheus ? No love for him ?

Well, Andrei wanted to destroy the Antediluvian because of the prophecy. The Sabbat is clearly much more superstitious than the Camarilla.

As for Lacroix himself, I believe he was playing by his own rules; he thought "What if it isn't just a superstition ? What if I could actually suck that asshole's blood and become omnipotent ?" Clearly he took that risk and paid the consequences quite fittingly.

The only one that comes to my mind is Sebastian Cabot and he wasn't evil (at least I don't think so - just some guy on the TV).

EDIT:  thought I should add that he was most famous as the butler on "Family Affair".  Don't know if that was available outside the USA or not but Sebastian was an English actor who I assume has passed unless he is over 100 years old now (or if he was turned by the Baron of Hollywood).

The outside area was build by EntenSchreck, I only added the inside. EntenSchreck stumbled upon some pictures of the Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood and noticed the resemblance to some unused models and textures in Bloodlines. He then build the hotel for the Prelude, but I found it so great that I convinced him to give it to me for the patch too :)!

In that case, great work to Entenschreck too - really, what would we do without you modders?

I finished the Ventrue playthrough and will now go the complete opposite - Gangrel. I just love those tree huggers. She will probably end up with the Sabbat, because I really don't like killing Andrei (also his second fight is really great and challenging).

I have a few concepts, I want to try. One of these days, I even want to finish a Brujah playthrough (the only Clan, I have never played)

A very passionate for the Camerilla one might be fun since the ones in the game are so weird in the head.  It might not work so good, though, as there likely isn't decent come backs amongst the Brujhah  to support that (unless someone modded them in).  At the player's strength, the Brujah could be an undercover Justicar pretending to be newly sired to investigate the Prince.

Played my Tremere in CQM a bit more. I always love sending GImble to Vandall as 'blood doner'. At least he deserves it, unlike the girl from the Asylum, she might not be very bright, but that is no reason to kill her. A serial killer on the other hand...

Pisha said something in the line of that she is surprised, that her dinner came to her.

And I don't think, you can send Patty to Vandall, but since I normally did his quest before moving on to Downtown, I'm not sure

Sending Patty to Vandal is a plus patch option. In vanilla you can only send the girl from the Asylum.
Yes, Pisha has something to say if you send Patty to her, but I usually prefer to kill that whining bitch myself...

I don't remember what she said exactly either - something about trying hard to find those that should be culled without giving herself away as a vampire and never having one come to her.  Darn Pischa, though!  I deliver her a meal and no tip!

I started another playthrough as a male Brujah (CQM 4.1, Camarilla Edition Lite, X20 & such).
Unfortunately Brujah's lack of diversity when it comes to Disciplines has always been a bit of a downer. Anyways, I'll try bringing Presence to 4 asap and see if it's worth it.

I don't think Hollywood has gotten around to banning them yet so, OK.  :)   Metal?  Reusable!  That might just work.  Nah, Seattle has loonies governing loonies so they'd find some issue with it.  In case you haven't guessed from my attitude, I'm from eastern Washington and we don't really have warm fuzzies for the colonial powers in King County (and I do know that the actual capital is in Thurston County  :)).

We are about to revive our OWoD Sabbat group (pen & paper). My Tzimisce Aladar is now pack leader after he succeeded against a competitor (who might end up as wall decoration on my home, you have to show to others what happens to people that try to challenge you). I'm really happy, because it always was a fun group. I love Aladar, who is old fashioned, believes in the power of good manners and has a ghoul, that shows him, how modern world works (including computers and stuff).

My Tremere lady, Janei Watson, made the Sabbat warehouse dissappear and had a nice chat with everyones favorite vampire historian.
I'm playing Clan Quest Mod with her and am deciding, which route to go. Since I want to do the Tremere clan quest, I probably won't defect to the Sabbat as I did in the last few games. But I might end up doing the loner ending, which seems to be fitting for her.

Is that pronounced "Jane" or "Janey" ? I suspect the latter.

I might have to try that mod someday. It seems like one of the most popular ones.

It's pronounced Janey. It's an old Englisch name. I headcanon, that my Janei is a British girl, who was on vacation in LA, when the mess did happen.
The mod is quite good, they managed to get great voice actors for most roles. Andrei is so good, that there is nearly a difference.

Janei made her way to Downtown, got saved again by Nines and had some interesting conversations with Strauß, the Anarchs and a flesheating woman in an abandoned hospital. Now she is helping Pisha to keep up the Masquerade, stopping the plaguebearers for Strauß and Damsel and helping Venus against the russian mafia.

Does anyone else find that Patty extremly annoying? Makes me wonder, what her 'vampire sugardaddy' Kent Allan Ryan found in her. Normally, I still let her live and send her to another city (forgot which one), but my persuation isn't high enough yet, so Pisha got dinner.

@Talyn82 How did you handle Pisha ?

I usually let her live.  But I was reading an old post of yours, and you make a good argument as to why it's best to kill her.  I did not know she had to feed on a fresh corpse every night.  I thought she could have left overs.  So for my next playthrough I'll kill her either after the artifacts or before.  Depends on the character if it's a Tremere, he would be interested in the artifacts.  Although according to the youtuber Outstar, the Toreador are the most creepy I think they would be disgusted by Pisha.

How is she combat wise?  Is she tough to beat.

Depends on your skill level. Deffinitely NOT easy on the early bits.

By the end though ? She fell into cinders with a few rounds of the Colt Anaconda.

Tbh, I don't really want to kill Pisha. It would be the right thing to do, since she has to kill to feed, but I like her. And I pity her a bit. To have to eat tons of flesh every night must be tough. Although I just read, that they don't have to necessarily kill. A fresh body will do. So maybe ghouling a medical examiner or an undertaker could help with that. ANd they often know rituals to preserve a body, so technically, what Pisha does - eating the whole filmcrew in one sitting, is overindulgence and unnecessary... oky, now I want to kill her again.

I didn't play much, but I'm reading Becketts Jyhad diary at the moment. It's really fun. I just had chapters about LA, a few years after the events of Bloodlines. Sadly no mention of Gary or any of the other Nosferatu. I think, the only characters from the game, that are mentioned are Nines Rodriguez and Jack. Beckett meets Jacks childe, who is a thinblood and helps other thinbloods to cope with their existence. And I think, the taxi driver is mentioned. At least Beckett is very suspicious of the guy, that drives him - could just be a red herring, who knows.
What I found hilarious was, that Beckett stayed the first nights in the newly renovated Ocean House Hotel and wondered, how people could sleep there with all the ruckus, the ghosts are making (so Thereses ritual was only semi successful - no more murders, but still chatty ghosts). Then he moved to the Hallowbrook Hotel, that was renovated too and wondered, how people could not smell the blood in the walls. I wonder, how the Hallowbrook Hotel could be renovated without causing a masquerade breach, giving how it looked, when the fledgling left it. I mean, Andreis chamber alone is the stuff of nightmares. Maybe the Anarchs or the Camarilla cleaned up before any human entered the building.
(None of the things, I wrote about are spoilers btw., they are just little things, Beckett encountered between the big adventures)

I bought novels from them several years ago, but that wasn't direct, ie, through another company.  In the USA, it is common for e-mail addresses to be sold as long as a company doesn't state that it won't do that in their privacy policy.  Most sell to their own sub companies anyway and they often have no agreement at all with you.  It was a decent survey too - not the run of the mill useless types that so often are used.

Easily the best thing for me in the "Night at the Library" is the acquisition of the broadsword. I adore that weapon, ever since my first roleplay in the Dark Ages as a brujah - the chance to wield it in the modern era is absolutely phenomenal. After it comes the gardening hook of course, and only then the fire ax.

What about THE SLEDGEHAMMER? In my playthroughs it is clumsy most of the time, only effective for dealing with the gargoyle and maybe those Tsimisce walkers, but against everything else is not particularly deadly. However, it does not mean I that I will not try to implement the SLEDGEHAMMER-ONLY run with the brujah next time I play.

After all, I can help Ming to attain her enlightenment through the repeated process of dynamic pressure endurance testing, making the effort worth it.

Yeah, she has one of the better default skins (together with the Tremere lady).
I did start a second game, because I managed to get Antitribu mod running again (had problems the last time) and redid my Tzimisce lady. I named her Vykos of course. I do like the modders skill in making interesting skins, although I don't like that some of the armors have Nazi symbols on them (the Lasombra for example). The tzimisce is a classical punk rocker though, so no problem. I'm not sure, if I finish that playthrough though, because I do find some of the fights unnecessary hard. But hey, you can get Mitnick as a companion, that's a plus. What I do like about Antitribu apart from the variety of skins even for minor characters, are the disciplines. I mean, my Tzimisce does really fleshform her enemies - and she can make Szlachtas and has a warform. That's really nice. She has to sleep in a coffin with earth though.

I will continue my Brujah too, of course. I always have more than one game running, often one UP+ and a CQM game.

You just have to click on the coffin in your haven from time to time or you get penalties. Yeah I found the Nazi symbols strange too, but I guess, for some people they are fetishes. I just swap the armors around and the female Tzimi has a Punkrock attire, which I like, especially the last armor.

You have never played Malkavian? What are you waiting for - go on with it. Really, Malkavian gives a new perspective to the game, because of their insight. And the reaction from some people are priceless. After that, the 'normal' playthroughs are kind of lacking tbh.

I could never play the male one though. His outfits are way too ridiculous

The female too. That's why I use cosmetic mods. This is the one, I'm using at the moment. It's a bit more showing, than I like to, but so are most of the female armor sets. The later armor is a bit less revealing.(https://i.imgur.com/JwD5ToW.png)

That looks good. The default female ones are somewhat humorous at least (if a bit objectifying) but I can deal with them. The last one does look pretty great.

I really hate the default female Malk and never used that skin. When I reinstall the game, the first thing to do is to change the female Malk skin. And the male nossie skin, since I don't like the sm armoring of him.
With the Malk, I'm nearly done in Santa Monica, I have only the meeting with Bertram and the warehouse ahead. I didn't manage to save Tourette and Therese killed Jeanette. I must have accidently used a wrong answer somewere, because my persuation is high enough. Well, since I don't like them, I don't really care if one of them dies.
The  Brujah is on the way to the Ocean House. I couldn't stomach to do that quest twice a day, so I postponed it. Ocean House is still getting to me, it's creepy and a bit stressful. But mostly creepy.

Male Ventrue is the best in my book, especially the last two outfits, after that for the second position female Malkavian and male Toreador are tied. The third goes to the camo of the gangrel, I like the savage look.

In vanilla game I like female Tremere and female Brujah, almost all others get modded.
I just found out, that I mixed and matched with my Malkavian mod. The second armor is from the subtle Malkavian mod https://www.nexusmods.com/vampirebloodlines/mods/1?tab=images (https://www.nexusmods.com/vampirebloodlines/mods/1?tab=images)
Now I'm really wondering, what I have for the last two armors. Somehow I must have made it work at some point. I think, I wanted a darker color scheme.
My Malk lady (Hanna P. Lovecraft) is now in Downtown, she already did the quests for Larry and Venus, started the plaguebearer quest and checked out the Elizabeth Dane. Plus some minor stuff, like getting rid of Patty and such.

I love the final outfit for the male Malkavian.  Love walking around downtown LA feeling like a pimp and arguing with Stop signs in game.  Also when he tells the Anarchs to fuck off in the lone wolf ending.  He does so with style.

@fylimar:  I love your female Malk's name.  it is very creative.  I had named my first male Malk Bottlecap.  My reasoning was he was crazy even before the embrace.  Sort of like how Therese already had Jeanette as an imaginary sister before her embrace.

I can see that the Malkavians do get a few clothing mods at least, contrary to Toreadors that barely have any.

I agree about the Toreador males having shitty clothing options.  But there is only one reskin I know of for the Toreador male.  It is called "Beautiful Monster."  It only effects their default clothing.  Sadly there are no reskins for their other clothing.  You can get the Beautiful Monster reskins here on this site.

Subtle Malkavian is not an oxymoron. Having a mental disorder doesn't make you a raving lunatic, you know. I must know, I live with one my whole life and most people will never know that. I play my pen & paper Malk very subtle, in fact, she is the diplomat of the group.

As for Toreadors armors: I don't know where you are looking, but there are tons of male Torrie armor out there, just take a look at Nexus mods, there is a guy called Marius, who did some male Torrie armors, which isn't surprising, given his Anne Rice name. Plus you can use every other male armor, rename it and use it. I do that all the time. I often use the female Tzimisce from Antitribu mod as a Gangrels or Malkavian for example.

You're telling me, we've talked before about the stigma associated with malkavians (at least in Bloodlines) but I did thought it sounded funny, what with the outrageous things they can sometimes say in the game

Interesting ! It's not much of a problem for me though, I mostly go with the Toreador's default second skin and it fits him wonderfully. Toreadors and Brujahs don't need much armor after all, what with being able to dodge bullets and people with Celerity

It does make me wonder... will we customize clothing in BL2 via outfits or individual pieces alone *rubs chin* ?

Yeah, I remember, we talked about the Malkavian subject. I always picture my Malk girl saying those things with a calm, conversational tone, with the sole purpose to making it more shocking. I think, Strauss takes it the best. When you tell him, you see him with a crown, he just laughs and is totally chilled about it, while the Anarchs are all freaking out, just because you use a bit more flowery speech. I wouldn't trust Strauss as much as I can throw him without vampiric power, but he is one of the more open minded vampires, when it comes to other clans. Gary is really cool about you being a Malkavian too, he just tries to convince you, he is a new voice in your head, which is hilarious.

Their disciplines do sound like a lot of fun as well. I am excited about obfuscation more than the other two (haven't used dementation yet) since being invisible does work very well in the game.

I can't believe, you never did a Malkavian run. I even did a Toreador run and I hate that clan (of course my Torrie did go all darkside and joined Andrei in the CQM). And Malkavian is fun. Dementation works a bit like Dominate in that you will suggest people to do things, they won't do normally (like just forget you are here or attack others - or just drop dead). Auspex is really useful too - it raises your perception and wits and you can see enemies sooner.
About Obfuscate: You can't outstealth everythingthing - for example the zombies in Bishop Vics house will always see you (the bishop won't funnily enoough, you can go to stealth during the fight and surprise him), the werewolf will see (smell?) you and most of the Sabbat in Hollowbrook will see you - that is either, because once you come out of Obfuscate you can't go vanish again, while enemies are still looking at you, or some enemies are just scripted to detect you (werewolf and zombies among others). But you can outrun a lot. Back before UP+ patch with the sweet shortcut through the sewers, I outstealthed nearly all Tzimisce creatures, even the big one, that is a boss. You only really have to fight those, that are near things, that will help you go further.

I know, it's crazy I haven't played one yet ! Thing is that when I'm playing other clans I'm usually missing stuff I love doing as my male Toreador. I mean, sure the Tremeres have a bunch of great powers but it feels like you're juggling too much if you're running with guns and melee as well. Nosferatu are awesome as well but you really gotta commit to a playthrough without ANY seduction whatsoever.

Thus, no one feels my void like this beautiful monster:

(I will deffinitely play Malk though :cometome: )

Luckily most of those aren't too hard... except the werewolf.

He's quite a breeze if you have celerity and know what you're doing but I can see how a Malk might struggle a bit more.

You probably don't want to hear it, but the Toreador character models, both male and female, are the worst for me. They look too generic and bland. All other characters have something special about them imo (not always good - I don't get the crazy clothing of teh default Malks or the sm-thingy going on with the Nosferatu), but I do miss that in the Torries. When I played my female Toreador, I used a different skin, it was actually a Brujah skin, but it worked well for my Torrie.
The werewolf isn't hard , because of disciplines or lack thereoff for me, but because I'm always panicking and running in the wrong directions. I'm not made for that kind of stress in video games. I sometimes make my gamer life easier and turn on god mode during the werewolf sequence, because I can't always stomach it. I fight through ten levels of Tzimisce creatures in the sewers, no problem, but keep wolfie away from me (and I love werewolves normally, because treehugger).

But teh clothes ! The second Torrie skin is a thing of beauty. Mercurio burns with jealousy knowing he can't pull the same look on his own :afro:  !

I'm not made for that kind of stress in video games.

I don't think anybody is. As much as I like the mythology of several RTS games, it's a bit exhasperating how much stress is implemented into the gameplay. That is so counter-intuitive from what a GAME should be. But oh well, there's a lot of crazy folk out there.

Ok, finished the crackhouse and killed Vic. It was really easy, my Malk is good at melee, has her trusty fireaxe and Vision of Death prevented Vic from moving around and shooting, so easypeasy. After that, she went to the Malkavian Mansion - and yeah, you all know the thrill. Found that Kent Alan Ryan and gave his license to Skelter, since he knew him. I wonder, if you can tell Patty the truth about him, when you talk to her after going to the Malkvian Mansion. Did anyone do that?

If you have UP+ installed, you can enter a new area in the Malkavian Mansion, the maze. There you find a mausoleum, where a vampire died and if you brave the sunlight, you can recover a license near the corpse and it turned out to be that of Pattys sugar daddy.
Highwayman: yeah, I just discovered it - maybe it is a new feature with the latest patch. I haven't checked, if you had really given Skleter the license, but you can inform him, that Ryan is dead.

Ha ha, when I get to the werewolf part I always run around like a chicken without it's head.  That is definitely the most stressful part of the game.  The thing about me is I suffer from high anxiety, so that part does not calm down my anxiety levels.

Same here, Talyn. I hate the werewolf part. With the Clan Quest Mod you can avoid that quest, when siding with Andrei and the Sabbat. You get completely different tasks from Andrei. So I side with the Sabbat often in CQM, because of that (and because I like Andrei).

It's great.
As what I, or rather my Malk Hanna P. Lovecraft, did in the WoD: She sneaked into the museum and tried to get the sarcophagus, but found Beckett instead. They talked a bit and then Hanna had to give the jester the bad news. At least she found Pishas fetish. Of course the prince wasn't happy and now she is in Hollywood, trying to find the Nosferatu. Along the way, she saved a useless ex actor from hunters: seriously - isn't Ash the most irritating and useless character in the whole game? Does anyone actually like him? And VV - I hate her. I'm only being nice to her to get the photo so I can sell it for nearly 400 bucks. Did her quests too and did let Julius leave the city. If VV wants him dead, she will have to make her own pristine Torrie hands dirty. Hanna managed to save the serial killer and sent him to the anarchs (would be nice, if he would be in the Last Round the next time) and is now on the hunt for the snuff tape - my favorite part of Hollywood. It means, I get to meet three of my favorite npcs soon: Gary, Andrei and Mitnick.
Oh - and Hanna made the werewolf in the sky dance

Hanna P. Lovecraft finally found the Nosferatu and a chat with Mitnick, Imalia and Gary. She agreed to help Mitnick an Imalia with their tasks and to find Barabus for Gary. I must say, the dialogue with Gary is for me the highlight of the game, especially when you are Malkavian. It's so well written and the voice actor is fantastic.
After that, Hanna helped Bertram finding a cd, did the dirty little job for Imalia and got rid of a Gargoyle for Abrams and Strauss. It never crossed my mind to ask Strauss about the Gargoyle before, because I was afraid, I would rat Abrams out, but this way, I got double rewards - yay.
For Beckett, Hanna is trying to find out, where his associate Scott has gone and what a Lasombra wants in a library. Now she is about to enter said library.

fylimar:  I love Gary I love all of the Nosferatu.  When I first played the game and didn't know about them, I was afraid running into them in the sewers, that would avoid the sewers as much as possible.  But then when I met Mitnick he was completely not what I was expecting.  He was a computer geek, Imalia was the typical model, and Gary is just classy.

My favorite part of the game is meeting them.  I just hate the Warrens but thankfully with the plus patch I can pretty much ignore them.  Too much combat and no exp reward makes the Warrens pointless imo.

Beckett I also like.  I stopped playing the Witcher 2 and am replaying Bloodlines with a Gangrel.  He just met Mercurio for the first time.  So I'm still early in the game.

I love Geralt of Rivia, but come on, he is nothing compared to Gary and Beckett.

Highwayman: Hanna loves her fireaxe, that the nice ghost left for her.

Why not? I didn't even manage to get past chapter 1 of the first witcher game. Can't get any feeling for the game world and the camera and controls are as bad as in NWN 2. Plus I don't like games where I have to play a predetermined character.

Hm, I prefer the knife. I might be a madman, but I don't fight fire with an axe.
This time I actually managed to get past Zhao. I don't know why, but I always have trouble with the lost children there.
Now I'm on my way to the turtle Leopold, but why do I always have to suffer through the bloody tuna "joke"?!

@Highwayman667:  I do intend to continue playing TW2.  Unlike the first game I do enjoy the combat, and I always liked the history and lore of the Witcher world.  History and lore are a big thing for me and determine my immersion into the game world.  But while playing TW2 I began thinking of Bloodlines and remembered I wanted to play as a Gangrel so I started a playthrough.  I also miss the npc's like Gary, Jack, Tourette, Damsel, and the rest.  Plus the game is short so I will be back to TW2 in no time.

I am barely resisting a new Bloodlines playthrough... but I must !

BG2 and Gothic aren't gonna finish themselves !

I hate that bloody werewolf!!! Took me down twice right now, and the worst thing is that you can't save after the Nines dialog, so you have to repeat that and the bloody cutscene as well...

As an afterthought, would it turn me into a Kuey Jin if I use Buddha mode? :chinscratch:

Tbh, I used the godmode during the bloody werewolf scene sometimes. I don't always want to go through that. I did it already enough times to not have to prove myself.
For the same reason, I tend to use no clip instead of fighting through all the levels of the golden temple in some playthroughs. Those two are the only instances, I really get impatient with the game. I always was OK with the sewers, as bugged, as they were, but I draw a line with wolfie and Kuei Jin levels.

Can't you guys just buy a bunch of blue bloods or elder vitae to survive that part ? You guys already know how to kill it.

Well, since quoting isn't working again, this is to Higgwayman: yeah of course you can survive it and my point was, that I did survive it a lot of times, but sometimes I just don't want to do those parts of the game.

Come to the Toreador side fylimar... we have celerity

Also, I found that I can quote properly when I select the "quote" icon with mouse 3, thus opening a new tab with the quotation in place already. So far it's worked for me.

As I said, it isn't a question of ability to do it, but rather of 'I don't wanna - mimimi'
And since Brujah have Celerity, I don't have to bother with the Anne Rice Clan

You joke about it but someone on moddb tried to make a "sparkle edition (https://www.moddb.com/mods/vampire-bloodlines-sparkle-edition)"

Hanna managed to save Becketts associate and defeated the Lasombra. It wasn't exactly a glorious fight, more a running around the columns with Obfuscate on and try to get a good shot with the crossbow and the firebolts. But it worked and the Lasombra is dust. Seems, like he borrowed one of Andreis creatures though. Luckily, Hanna dispatched it, before it could hurt the humans in the library.
Now on to Mitnicks second quest, the theater. I was never happier to have Obfuscate.

Turned out, I didn't even need Obfuscate in this one. So I did the Hollywood hub for Mitnick too - this time heavily with Obfuscate. I find that one pretty hard without.
Did some posterquests for Gary too - not that I care for any of the posters, apart from maybe Damsel (but that poster isn't really nice either), but the more Gary, the better, so to keep the emails going, I do the quests.

A small question, for anyone that knows:

As we all know, you can get XP points for a stealthy playthrough of the Sabbat Warehouse.

How does it work though ? Do you get points for not being detected and not killing everyone ? Do you get points depending on wether you killed people but still weren't detected ?

I don't know how it works in the basic patch. In plus you get the bonus if noone has seen you when you activate the bomb. Stealth kills and instant-killing disciplines are okay, but if the guy you kill has seen you, the bonus is gone. Even if there were no witnesses.

Yes, I botched that stealthy reward by running into a guy on my way to the office in the warehouse. I didn't want to reload, so there you go. Plus is, when you manage to stealth your way through, those Sabbat vampires wouldn't turn up.

In the basic patch you get the bonus if you kill nobody. Which makes no sense because Bertram says: "So if you get in there and have to bust a few heads... don't feel bad. Think of it as "upholding the Masquerade"."

Awesome sauce then. One more point as long as the kills are stealthy. Thanks guys.

Unpopular opinion: Grout's mansion is scarier.

At least to me ! It just seems much more sickening to me somehow. I went through it the first time and had a bit of nausea. Wonderful place.

Hmm, I did not find Grout's mansion to be that scary I found it disturbingly creepy.  I especially like Grout's recording which chronicles his decent into paranoia due to his Malkavain insight. Another place I found creepy was the old hospital where Pisha is staying.  The first time I went there it was creepy, plus like Grout's Mansion and the Ocean House Hotel it has great atmosphere.

Blew up the warehouse and spoke to LaCroix.  Am going to go to the old hospital and see Pisha.

I always make a point in doing most of the Downtown stuff before speaking to LaCroix.
The Malkavian Mansion is creepy in another way than the Ocean House Hotel for me. All those creeped out ghouls and the maze and Grouts growing fear...

I'm with Talyn82 - I've never been so creeped out in a game as the first time in the Ocean House.  Grout's mansion is more ridiculous then scary IMO.

Madness I say ! MADNESS !!!

It's a great thing that Bloodlines does not miss the mark at all when it came to it's horror aspect. How many RPG's out there are as scary as Bloodlines ? I can't really think of many, if any at all.

Lol, when I first played Bloodlines I kept on reminding myself I am a monster I have no fear when in the creepier places like the hotel.

Another place I found creepy was the crack house.  Seeing the zombies just stand still, and then start to move when the player gets closer was creepy.
