Two Favorite Clans and Disciplines?
« on: May 20, 2020, 03:24:33 AM »
What are your 2 favorite Clans and Disciplines?  My favorite clan is Tremere so far and my favorite discipline is Blood Boil.  I intend to try all the clans, but since Tremere were my first I prefer them.  My first character did not have high persuasion so he relied on combat and Thaumaturgy and Auspex.  Blood Boil was fun to use in places like the Giovanni mansion or on LaCroix's human guards.

My second favorite clan is Malkavian.  I like their Dementation discipline and I like how they a prophetic.  Also I love peoples reactions when player Malk first opens their mouths.

So what are tyour 2 favorite clans and disciplines?

Toreador & Tremere for me. As for the disciplines, celerity and thaumaturgy (I believe that is what the general discipline is called).

Toreador is an easy one for me that most of you know: my favorite kind of vampire and my standard playthrough in general. The Tremere one is probably stranger, they are one of my favorite clans in terms of mythology (I even larped one once) and I love the female character model...

...but I find that the gameplay is a bit tricky: it's a bit hard trying to juggle melee, firearms and constant use of the thaumaturgy abilities. At least it's complicated to me when most of the time I could just "fire away superspeed" and do more than okay

Well the first clan is a no brainer: Malkavians of course. And all of their disciplins. Dementation can not kill a supernatural being, but it can render it useless by putting it into a trance. The only time, that doesn't work so well, is with the Lasombra in the library. He is mostly too far away to use dementation. The fight against the golem is a breeze and even Andrei in warform isn't that hard. Obfuscate is very neat too, especially in fights like the Lasombra, who does a lot of damage. With Obfuscate, you can stay out of sight until you have a clear shot. And Auspex enhances your abilities, what is not to like.
Second place is a tie between Tremere and Gangrel. I like Bloodmagic and Animalsm, both are awesome.

How do you usually manage though ? I'm guessing you have to be up to date with your armors and resistances because the clan doesn't have any defensive abilities, aside from obfuscate perhaps.

To what are you referring to? Malkavians can stun opponents with their dementation ability - and then hit them hard, while they can't move. Tremere have blood shield and Gangrel have a defensive ability. Easypeasy.

Ah ! I see now, dementation is much more useful than it seems.

It is a great discipline - comparable with Dominate. I mean, people can't hit you, if they can't attack you. I think, the only two exceptions, where you can't use Dementation, is the werewolf, because I think he might be scripted to ignore disciplines and the Lasombra, because he is most of the time too far away. You can use it on Ming Xiao, but I prefer to run and not risking of being near her tentacles, when the discipline timer runs out. And humans you just can kill with Visions of Death - which is really helpful in the Society of Leopold, those hunters die like flies. And the rest is snack.

Berserk is fun, too. Just sit back and watch as they dish it out... Works even on some vampires. I have used it just now on the last two Ventrue in the tower.

Favorite two:  Nosferatu and Gangrel.  Nosferatu are a completely unique way of playing without the silliness/goofiness/absurd wording of Malks.  Gangrel are just an easy clan to wrap oneself around with their independence.  With the imperialist camerilla attitude and the ass holiness attitude of the anarchs; one really needs an independent-minded group.

Favorite disciplines:  none really.  They all have their uses although celerity is more irritating then anything.  Running into everything makes a battle difficult.  If I had to pick one as most useful, it'd probably be spectral wolves (or whatever it's called) combined with the blood return swarm (sorry - been a while and my memory isn't getting any better).

What do you say Talyn ? Should I go with Gothic after BG2 or really do that Malkavian playthrough Fyli here is tempting me into :chinscratch: ?

Well since Bloodlines is short and sweet I would suggest playing through that first.  Once you finish Gothic you'll probably want to play the sequel and the one after that.  So you'll have plenty of Gothic to play with.

Great suggestion though I'm not sure I can be satisfied with ONE Bloodlines playthrough

Go for the Malkavian Playthrough, it makes you feel better - and be sure to use all the smartass answers in dialogue (the ones, you seem to know more than you could)
