It's one of those parts of the game that is (IMO) a "high replayability" quest.  Obviously, characters with Celerity have an easier time, but I think it was built in such a way that anybody can do it...it's just very hard with some builds.  Anyways, I've never had a character who couldn't pull it off.  Even if it took a dozen tries, half a dozen blood packs and a 200 rounds of ammo.

You missed it because it's a bitch of a quest to do without broken Disciplines. Even with the flamethrower (if you go through Hallowbrook and have never spoken with Romero before), it's a total and absolute monkey of a quest to solve properly. You're better off sleeping with the guy or finding him a piece to tap. Same rewards, MUCH less aggravation.

I'm contradicting my past posts here but, it is easy with celerity.  Just have to keep running from gate to gate with staying too long at one or the other.  Otherwise, I make him stay and do his own job :).

As per the original line, I tried finding vantage points to shoot with the Romero rifle (or even the ever handy Anaconda) but couldn't find any where both gates were visible.  Just curious, blood boil is powerful but takes a lot of blood and doesn't do a whole lot of periphery damage.  Did you try the lower one (can't remember what it is called) that damages everyone in range (kills all humans in a room, etc with one use)?  I've never been that far developed to test it at that point in the game (don't use histories).

That's the Blood Salvo, but it doesn't make enough damage to make it a viable choice, in my opinion. As Rick said, the best choice is sleeping with him (If you're a female), or getting him a hooker. And about combat; using high level Celerity is probably the only relatively safe option, since there's a lot of enemies and the two gates are pretty far.

Boy; don't have the game loaded at present an it has been a while; just seems the Tremere had a mass killer like mass suicide (Malks).  I agree that salvo isn't so good :)   Oh well, never could trust my memory on such things.

I am an XP whore, so I usually take the zombie quest for XP and a firearms boost, and then come back afterwards and ask him how things are going.  This leads to a dialogue choice asking him if there's anything else you can do for him, and then you can get him the hooker for XP and some cash.

The zombie quest is possible without Celerity, but it's a bitch.  You have to run back and forth between gates constantly, and ignore all the zombies on the way.  It make may take one or two tries to succeed.

As per the original line, I tried finding vantage points to shoot with the Romero rifle (or even the ever handy Anaconda) but couldn't find any where both gates were visible.

At the corner where you make the turn, you can hop up on a gravestone and from there onto the wall, with a view of both gates.  I tried this a couple of times, but still never succeeded.  For me, only Melee works.  I think you'd have to have your Firearms really high to pull this off.

Has anyone found Animalism Level 5, Plague or Swarm or whatever it's called to be any use? It says it deals damage to all targets in a group, but when I used it, it only killed one person, and didn't damage any others.

What were the others?  It seems most of the mass killers kill all humans in the area (I remember (I think) taking out a room full of temple guards (Ming Palace) with it) but have a variable affect short of death on most vampires.  What I want to know is, why doesn't the Sheriff use it on ME?

All of the targets were human, or zombies, or some such. I've used it in places like the Giovanni Mansion catacombs, the Society of Leopold monastery. Never killed more than one at a time.

It certainly isn't worth the expenditure, then.  When I stop playing for a while, my memory folds the disciplines together and I can't remember which does what.  If I'd stick to one clan, I guess that wouldn't happen but I generally play all except, many times, Brujha and Ventrue - just don't find those two very fulfilling.

That was the first and only time I bothered with Plague/Animalism Level 5. Usually I just ignore it and put that XP to better use with an extra dot or two in Fortitude or Brawl.

And how about the Mass Suicide (Level 5 Domination); is it useful there?

I THINK (never did that quest with my Ventrue) that it's of less use against zombies and other supernaturals. It probably does damage to them, but I really doubt it just wholesale kills/re-kills a bunch of them at once.

It's good for distraction/incapacitation (only kills one when I have tried it), since every enemy gets so focused on fighting the swarm off that you can whack/shoot them without them doing a thing against you. In UP basic/plus it's more fun ("that's a nasty itch you got there, moahahaha!") than tactically useful, but with Arsenal mod (that I'm playing with right now) it might be more useful against mobs (unless you just Fortitude your way through).

Personally I avoid that zombie killer quest like the plague, since it uses up more blood and/or ammo than the XP award is worth. I see it more as a needlessly tedious quest than a challenge with lots of replayability. I bring him a hooker or avoid it. I'm a XP whore as well, but I want the game to be fun, not a chore like that zombie quest.

With melee weapons, it's okay with Celerity, even with only 1 dot I think, but I have never succeeded (or even come close to suceeding) without Celerity.

With ranged weapons, it's okay with the very best of ranged weapons - I've done it with the Steyr Aug assault rifle or whatever, wasn't terribly hard but it was very expensive in ammo costs.  I have not even tried it with weaker ranged weapons.

I have never tried to do it using direct damage disciplines like Thaumaturgy.

My memory is that when I approached him as a female Ventrue he initially asked me to guard the cemetery for him and I had to go out of my way to select the sleep with him option.  But I've only done that once, maybe I'm remembering wrong.
