Title: Re: Character Theme Songs
Post by: [archive] Metallica_Vamp on May 31, 2006, 12:41:00 PM
What song represents your character? What turntables sing in your mind as they make their way through the night?

Personally, the male Malk reminds me of Corey Hart's "Sunglasses at Night."

And the female Brujah (and Damsel) are Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation."

 More later, opinions welcome.

 Also fitting her is....

 "Crazy bitch"

  See a trend here?

There are two songs which really fit my character to a T. The first is 'Of Wolf and Man' by Metallica, quite possibly one of the best songs EVER. This is mainly because I almost always play a Gangrel.

The second is 'Medication' by Psycore, rather appropriate as the first line starts out with "I've got this, vampire   sucking blood, from my brain.

Both of these songs I just view as very apt, the second regardless of what character you are.

Ok, I'll bite.  Normally this kind of things seems a bit cheesy but I'll give it a shot.  I'll try to keep it mainstream so people aren't left wondering "who the hell are they?"

Male Tremere - Bush: "Letting the Cables Sleep"
Male Brujah - Fear Factory: "Back the Fuck Up"
 Female Malkavian - Tool: "Lateralus"
And one not in the game, just because I'm difficult like that...

Male Malkavian: "God's Away on Business" by Tom Waits
Male Nosferatu: "Loverman" by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds
 Male Tremere: "Nebel" by Rammstein

That's all I can think of right now... I'll try and figure out a song for mý male Brujah and Gangrel characters.

For more classicaly sadistic vamps, I like "Bloody Pleasures" by Blutengel.

Their a german goth/industrial band. some of their songs, when just reading the lyrics alone, you have to laugh since it is sterotypical. But with the music, they are quite a fun band to listen to, and have alot of variety in mood, etc.

Tihs fansite has two soundclips of theirs: http://www.blutengel.ws/index2.html  (Go to downloads section)

Well, this is a character theme song, but it's really MY character Wrayth from my fanfictions. It fits her and her situation with her sire.

"My Immortal" by Evanescence. Read my story, you'll understand.

Metallica's "Invisible Kid" would work well for a Nossie or a Malk because of their Obfuscate discipline. And their other...oddities.

I've though of a couple of Nightwish songs, one specifically for the Toreador, the other for the Ventrue. The Toreador's could be Beauty and the Beast, because of the beauty of a Toreador and the beast which lies inside every vampire.

The Ventrue's would be Planet Hell, specifically for the line "Welcome to my Planet Hell, hinting towards the fact that the Ventrue are the leaders of the Camarilla Underworld.

For me, maybe "Vulcanella" by Magic Dirt... Aussie alternative band.

It's a different rock song... might be more suited to a Malkavian tho. I do very much like that "Smaller God" track (heard on the radio on the beach near the Santa Monica Pier) I have the album now!

Or maybe "I'm Stained" by SuperJesus, another Oz band.

And some retro stuff... there is always Joy Division... music to commit suicide by... 'Atrocity Exhibition'.

I've discovered why Roger Waters and others really don't like Andrew Lloyd-Webber.

I was convinced against my initial instincts to attend a Joan Rivers concert... it was amazingly entertaining! For someone fairly old she was incredibly spright and bright and witty and amusing.

She had a 6-piece backing band... she says she always insists on a 12-piece so they appeared with mirrors behind them but it didn't fool her. Not that senile yet!

Anyway they played a few classical pieces then transmogrified them in some way, slowing them or speeding them or changing the key... hey presto an Andrew Lloyd-Webber piece. It was quite eerie. Seems he just recycles other music... she hates him too, hee!

For my male Malkavian - "Itazura Na Kiss."  Simply because you hear it as a crazed, male vampire's themesong and you just go "what the HECK?!"  Oh, and listening to it on endless loop for more than thirty minutes drives me stark-raving nuts, so I feel it's just perfect for those ever-lovable loony Malks.

For my Toreador Lying From You by Linkin Park. the lyrics work and it just sounds tight. Fame, by david bowie works well for toreadors too. Everlast and Santana's Put Your Lights On is my favorite for gangrels, and when i had a ventrue, Mozarts Requiem was just too fitting. Malks remind me of My Name Is from Eminem, for obvious reasons, or frizzle fry by primus, look it up. Brujah i always think of with Smack my bitch up by the prodigy, thinking of beating the shit out of damsel of course. Finally, Godsmack's Vampires is my favorite song for Tremere, although i suppose that could work for any of the clans...

Female Torrie- I Am The One,  by Inkubbus Sukkubs, and by the same band, Aradia for a female Tremere.
(actually, almost any of their songs could probably be be applied in one way or another to female characters, so I'll pass over that..)
Male Malk- Welcome to my Nightmare by Alice Cooper.
Any Malk- Everything Where It Belongs, by Nine Inch Nails
Brujah's- Calm Like a Bomb, by Rage Against the Machine, or Sepulnation, by Sepultura.

Or, for a matched pair of Toreador lovers...
The Lovecats, by The Cure. Cheesy, I know, but I love it anyways....

[edit] For a malk of any gender, also, Powerpill Pacman, by Aphex Twin. God, it's hyperactive. Of course, it also brings a whole new meaning to the phrase 'eat the up, yum, yum' [/edit]

A few months ago somebody mentioned "Loverman" befitting the Nosferatu character.  If it's the same one that Metallica covered on Garage Inc, then hell yeah I couldn't agree more.  The lyrics are downright eerie.  All of them.  And speaking of Garage Inc, they did an awesome job with "Die, Die My Darling" and despite the handful of objections I think it went very well with the Gangrel fanvideo posted last year.  Their cover of Bob Seger's "Turn the Page" was okay, but the original has a little bit more heart, and would go perfectly with any nomadic character.  Of course, in Bloodlines the whole story is set in LA so there's not much room for a roaming character.

And since there's no such thing as too much Metallica, the Sheriff deserves one too: "Dirty Window":
I'm judge and I'm jury and I'm executioner too.
Look out the window and see what's gone wrong.
Court is in session and I-SLAM-MY-GA-VEL-DOWN!"

I thought of one for E, too.  "Santa Monica" by Everclear seemed more than a little appropriate:
"We could live beside the ocean, leave the world behind
swim out past the breakers, and watch the world die."

Well put skyra....I agree Metallica's cover of Die,die, die,my darling was great...But if they could of only added "sassafrass" randomly in the song, would of been perfect (why did I just say that lol)

Call me old fashioned, but most of these songs I just do not know - I gather that they are of the genre of death metal, goth or the "just-plain-weird" for me.  So, for more common versions (at least, what I think is more main stream!) of songs for the various clans :

Malkavian : The Tra La La Song (Theme from The Banana Splits show)
Toreador : Tainted Love, by Soft Cell
Nosferatu : Zombie, by The Cranberries
Brujah : Jambalaya, by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Tremere : A Kind of Magic, by Queen
Gangrel : Road to Nowhere, by Talking Heads
Ventrue : I Want It All, by Queen
Tzismice : Cruel to be Kind, by Nick Lowe

For some unknown reason, I have always thought of the Brujah as one of the good old boys of the deep South, thus the song choice.  If you are old enough to remember the Banana Splits Show, then you know why my song choice is as it is !!

 Always ready for opinions happy

                Malkavian Muzack to Mangle Misanthropes.

 1) Gorillaz - 19-2000
Lovely track for a Malk, from the chorus of la la la's to the beat.

2)Talking Heads - Life During Wartime
Yeah I coulda gone with Psycho Killer, but this song is way better and more appropriate in my opinon.

 3)Beck - Devil's Haircut
Beck has to be a Malky. No doubt about it.

 4)Flogging Molly - Salty Dog
A wonderful track to riverdance on the heads of kindred to.

5)Men Without Hats - Safety Dance
Does this one really need explanation?

 6)Static - X - I'm With Stupid
 Superb crazy people music.

7)Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass - Green Peppers
I actually listnend to this song while beating the urine out of Gimble.

 8)Massive Attack - Angel
This song actually sounds like a song in the game, when youre in your character sheet.

9)Mindless Self Indulgence - Shut Me Up
Terrific song, high paced, and once again, choruses of la la la are delightfully demented.

 10)Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer
 Crazy song.

Honestly, while playing this game, I start thinking about music I listen to and try to apply it to the WoD.  I never tohught that i could do it with Bob Dylan.  But I just did.  Its pretty long.

Just read the lyrics through Malkavian eyes.

 Desolation Row

They're selling postcards of the hanging
 They're painting the passports brown
The beauty parlor is filled with sailors
 The circus is in town
 Here comes the blind commissioner
They've got him in a trance
One hand is tied to the tight-rope walker
The other is in his pants
And the riot squad they're restless
 They need somewhere to go
As Lady and I look out tonight
 From Desolation Row

 Cinderella, she seems so easy
"It takes one to know one," she smiles
And puts her hands in her back pockets
 Bette Davis style
And in comes Romeo, he's moaning
"You Belong to Me I Believe"
And someone says," You're in the wrong place, my friend
 You better leave"
And the only sound that's left
 After the ambulances go
 Is Cinderella sweeping up
 On Desolation Row

Now the moon is almost hidden
The stars are beginning to hide
 The fortunetelling lady
Has even taken all her things inside
All except for Cain and Abel
And the hunchback of Notre Dame
 Everybody is making love
 Or else expecting rain
And the Good Samaritan, he's dressing
He's getting ready for the show
He's going to the carnival tonight
 On Desolation Row

Now Ophelia, she's 'neath the window
For her I feel so afraid
 On her twenty-second birthday
She already is an old maid
To her, death is quite romantic
 She wears an iron vest
 Her profession's her religion
 Her sin is her lifelessness
And though her eyes are fixed upon
 Noah's great rainbow
 She spends her time peeking
 Into Desolation Row

 Einstein, disguised as Robin Hood
With his memories in a trunk
Passed this way an hour ago
With his friend, a jealous monk
 He looked so immaculately frightful
 As he bummed a cigarette
Then he went off sniffing drainpipes
 And reciting the alphabet
Now you would not think to look at him
But he was famous long ago
 For playing the electric violin
 On Desolation Row

Dr. Filth, he keeps his world
 Inside of a leather cup
 But all his sexless patients
They're trying to blow it up
Now his nurse, some local loser
She's in charge of the cyanide hole
And she also keeps the cards that read
 "Have Mercy on His Soul"
They all play on penny whistles
 You can hear them blow
If you lean your head out far enough
 From Desolation Row

Across the street they've nailed the curtains
They're getting ready for the feast
 The Phantom of the Opera
A perfect image of a priest
 They're spoonfeeding Casanova
To get him to feel more assured
Then they'll kill him with self-confidence
 After poisoning him with words

And the Phantom's shouting to skinny girls
"Get Outa Here If You Don't Know
Casanova is just being punished for going
 To Desolation Row"

Now at midnight all the agents
 And the superhuman crew
Come out and round up everyone
That knows more than they do
Then they bring them to the factory
 Where the heart-attack machine
 Is strapped across their shoulders
 And then the kerosene
Is brought down from the castles
 By insurance men who go
Check to see that nobody is escaping
 To Desolation Row

 Praise be to Nero's Neptune
 The Titanic sails at dawn
 And everybody's shouting
 "Which Side Are You On?"
And Ezra Pound and T. S. Eliot
 Fighting in the captain's tower
While calypso singers laugh at them
 And fishermen hold flowers
Between the windows of the sea
 Where lovely mermaids flow
And nobody has to think too much
 About Desolation Row

Yes, I received your letter yesterday
(About the time the door knob broke)
When you asked how I was doing
Was that some kind of joke?
All these people that you mention
Yes, I know them, they're quite lame
I had to rearrange their faces
And give them all another name
Right now I can't read too good
Don't send me no more letters no
 Not unless you mail them
 From Desolation Row

 I donno, maybe I'm stoned.

I don't know for which of clans it could be exactly but I think that it could be good for all of them.

I know that is the song for another game but when I'm listening this I'm thinking about vampires, especially in this words:
 <red>''I'm not afraid to die
 You can't kill me
 I'm immortal''</red>

The song is Adema - Immortal

 A here is the lyrics:

 We're face to face
Loyalty is what I need to see from you
 You're insecure
I can see the fear that breeds in your heart
Where will you run? Where will you hide?
I see the blood drip from your eyes
Who will survive? Let's get it on
 And we'll fight

 I know who you are
 The leader of lost souls
 You can't kill me
 I'm immortal
 I'm not afraid to die
 My soul will travel on
 You can't kill me
 I'm immortal
 Immortal
 Immortal

 I need the rush
There's nowhere you could hide before you die
 Why won't you face me?
I can see the fear that's in your eyes
Where will you run? Where will you hide?
I see the blood drip from your eyes
Who will survive? Let's get it on
 And we'll fight

 I know who you are
 The leader of lost souls
 You can't kill me
 I'm immortal
 I'm not afraid to die
 My soul will travel on
 You can't kill me
 I'm immortal [x2]

 Where will you run?
 Where will you hide?
 Where will you run?
 Where will you hide?
 Let's fight

 I know who you are
 The leader of lost souls
 You can't kill me
 I'm immortal
 I'm not afraid to die
 My soul will travel on
 You can't kill me
 I'm immortal [x2]

 You can't kill me
 Immortal!
 You can't kill me
 Immortal!
 You can't kill me
 Immortal!
 You can't kill me

Maybe because of text about figth it could fit a little for Brujah

And here is the original video for this song:

Anyways, for my female ventrue: March of the black queen, by Queen

For the toreador female I would think of something classy, like Edith Piafs: La foule

I thought of a themesong for all kindred (in the Camarilla) and thought of Overture 1928 (I think, by Dreamtheatre

to fly like the birds... to be set free.
Why couldn't I stop until I had died?
It was hate for myself hidden inside

                slight out-of-bounds

not any of the PC's, but i think VV reminds me of "Poison" by alice cooper. fabulous toon. ill go fish around and find something to fit myself. in reality i feel like a mesh of all the clans so it'll be hard to pin any 1 song on myself. gimme some time and ill find something.

In my mind, Bullet Proof Skin by Institute captures a little of the overall PC experience in Bloodlines.

 Burn, baby burn
 Strung out on a wire
 Heart in a cage
 You're so full of desire
 You need, fast hands
To deal with all the liars
So don't burn baby burn baby burn

For the Malk PC, I'd go with Even If You Don't by Ween

I'm goin' crazy - trying to keep you sane
Taking my prescriptions, and forging my name

 I was happy this morning
 You finally got yourself dressed
 Eating raw bacon
It's OK, I was still impressed

I love you - even if you don't
You've got your knife up to my throat
Why do you want to see me bleed?

Lastly, Suck, by Kittie, would be good theme music for Damsel, or maybe the Anarchs in general.

Free From The Sun. In The Dark I Am None.
Though My Heart Sinks Like That One, I Am Told.
 Respect Nothing! Not This Love.
Falling Further in This Motherfucking Hole!
Believe Me, Believe Me, Believe Me When I Say you suck.
You Disgust Me When You bring Me Down.
But though My Heart Says I Will Die Without YOU!
 Respect Nothing! Not This Love.
Falling Further In This Motherfucking Hole!
Believe Me When I Say You Suck. oh fuck!
Believe Me, Believe Me, Please Believe Me,
When I Say, When I Say, When I Say, When I... Say
FUCK YOU, YOU THINK ITS ALL FUNNY [3x]
 FUCK YOU. Like I Said
FUCK YOU, YOU THINK ITS ALL FUNNY [3x]
 FUCK YOU!

 Gotta love Kittie.

                For the ATTITUDE of the Anarchs I found this song fitting;

Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name Of.

BOO-yah. Actually, that last tune would be good for just about any vamp, come to think of it.

                Song made specially for Nosferatu:

Daniel Ash - Nosferatu, I Love You

 I just discover it

Daniel Ash even made the song for Bloodlines soundtrack which was called Come Alive but that wasn't good song for me.
