Hardsuits Labs Layoffs
« on: March 02, 2021, 11:38:36 am »
Well this isn´t really surprising but Hardsuit Labs have Layoffs after they lost Bloodlines 2. Also i won´t be shocked if Hardsuit Labs close in its entirety soon.
Edit: It seems that Hardsuit Labs have fired the whole narrative team.

By the way i never heard before from Nicole Stanford and this Anna who were also narrative designers.

And Brian Mitsodas replacement Samantha Wallschlager and Cara Ellison replacement Jordan Mychal Lemos were among the ones who were fired.

Man you are on a roll for thread posting  :cometome:
I will be curious to know if they are going to keep the narrative or if the new studio is going to modify or even replace the current one

Hardsuit Labs statement about the layoffs.

"Of course this statement isn´t on their homepage or on twitter like a "normal" company. "We can confirm that Hardsuit Labs recently experienced layoffs. While we worked hard to source some great work opportunities for the studio to move forward with, we were unable to provide work for a small number of individuals and thus made the difficult decision to part ways. This decision was not made lightly and was done so only after we felt we had exhausted the opportunities to avoid such a layoff.""For the affected team members, with their permission, we are reaching out to partners and fellow studios in hopes that we can assist in placing our former colleagues with new opportunities. We sincerely wish the very best to our former colleagues and thank them for their contributions to the studio and our projects during their time here."
"Hardsuit Labs continues to move forward with existing and new opportunities, as well as current work on several yet unannounced projects. We look forward to sharing additional information on these games when we can in the future."

I won't be surprised if we hear one day that the Paradox shut down the studio, like both Microsoft and EA have done with their studios in the past.
As always Wilhelm thank you for the updates!

Paradox does not own Hardsuit Labs. They only have a stake of 33% but after this whole drama you can bet that they sold that.

A new wave of layoffs???

Rachel Leiker: "An announcement: Today is my last day at Hardsuit Labs. I’ve been with the studio for about 4 years and it’s been one of the best experiences of my career. Thank you to everyone at the studio, I feel so lucky to have worked on a dream game with you all."
Rachel Leiker was i believe the last Hardsuit Labs employee who was used for marketing which hadn´t be fired before
https://twitter.com/rleiker13/status/1370446243546112004

So everybody is gone and fired with the exception of Marketing Producer Anders Carlsson who showed up in the clan videos.

I don´t think that this one counts. Malin Gastegren has left Paradox. She was the Senior Marketing Manager.

"Eight years, 21 games launched, countless expansions, secret stuff that never came to be, numerous strokes of genius as well as some epic fails, and so, so many friends made along the way. Bye PDX, I'll miss you."https://twitter.com/Clownmat/status/1372490690144448515

Some of the Hardsuit Labs folks made the PC Port of Crash 4. Which could be a good port but Always Online is not acceptable for only Singleplayer game.https://twitter.com/hardsuitlabs?lang=de
Also remind me how many devs did Hardsuit Labs have before they lost Bloodlines 2? 50-100?No wonder that they lost Bloodlines 2 because they did work on many other games too.

Next Classdoor review.
Former Employee, more than 3 years
 Going nowhere
 Apr 27, 2021 - Anonymous Employee

 Pros

Some of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

 Unlimited Vacation time

 Ok benefits

Team leads were very good, not sure about studio leadership though.

 Cons

Mostly third party projects with very little ownership or opportunities for advancement.

Low compensation compared to similar studios in the area.

Very high turnover, 1 or 2 people submit notices every week. This isn't normal for a studio of this size.

Ever since the big name project ended it feels like the studio is on life support.

Would recommend for someone beginning their career, can't recommend for anyone else.

I don´t expect that Hardsuit Labs will survive 2021.

I foresaw Hardsuit Labs not making it past 2021.  All the ingredients of a sinking ship were there.  Now I know why they let go of Mitsoda.  The company was doomed.

I don´t think that we hear reason(s) after Bloodlines 2 release or if it been canceled. It would be interessing for sure but to be honest i just want him back on the game. That´s his baby and he is the marketing star. I would argue that his return will bring back a lot of goodwill from the fans.

Oh I want him back too.  VTMB 1 is a masterpiece in terms of writing and memorable npc's.  It would be great if the new developer would bring him back.  It would be a shame if they had actually canceled the game to create a new version.  Mitsoda spent five years writing the story and characters.  He had help of course but he was the brains.  I think if everything went according to plan and they still had Chris Avellone doing additional writing both he and Mitsoda are masters of their craft.  VTMB 2 would have been epic.
